Man!!!!!!!!!!!! You just saved ma 500INR. Thank you so much.. I called up the customer care and they said it wud cost around 500.. But you helped me to sort it out within 1min.!!
So here's an idea for a cheap fix James Ivy. Take a small block of wood cut to just short of the gap between the door and the fridge. Put velcro tape on either side and make it to where when the velcro is stuck together, it closes the gap in the gasket. $10 fix for now ;) That's what I'm gonna do.
Another replace gasket vs repair. I guesd we could also repair the whole fridge with a new one. But thanks for actually specifying it's a part replacement early on.
The original gasket for my fridge costs £100. The universal gasket costs £22. I will attempt the gasket change this weekend. Hopefully mine is as easy as this one. Very nice and to the point video.
Those of you fussing over the words "replace" vs "repair" are being ridiculous! - senseless even. If you replace the seal/gasket around the door, and it works then, the refrigerator is repaired. If you use glue or duck tape or some other such thing (I don't know I am guessing) and it works then the refrigerator and the door are still repaired. The title of the video is correct.
+angelamariapreuss technically, the refrigerator is being repaired by replacing the gasket. A new gasket can cost around $100 and that much more for one for the freezer. Depending on the age of the appliance, you're better off putting the $200 toward a new refrigerator
The reason you're "guessing" about duct tape or glue makes my point! I was looking just for that type of detail, and seeing the title as "repair", not "replace" induced me to click on this video. Maybe I'll try some random fixes, video myself doing them, abd put out an actual "REPAIR THE GASKET" video of my own!
Warning, this video is not going to tell you how to repair a refrigerator door gasket, it is going to simply tell you to REPLACE a refrigerator door gasket. While this may be a method to "repair" the refrigerator, it is titled wrongly, implying that it will tell you "How to Repair a Refrigerator Door Gasket".
Thanks for the informative video. As for the difference between repair and replace many of you have given the example of car repair. If you replace a part in a car it is called car repair not part repair however if you have a problem with a part and you fix it without replacing it is called part repair or car repair. Repair is a word used when you fix an entity without replacing it. Similarly if you fix a gasket using a duct tape or other means it is called gasket repair or refrigerator repair but if you replace the gasket it is not called gasket repair but you can call it refrigerator repair. The title should have been refrigerator repair or gasket replacement not gasket repair. I had to comment seeing how blatantly rude some of you were while making your point. Needless to say the video itself was informative irrespective of the title. Of this is not what you are looking for then move on.
When they repair a laptop that has a dead hard drive, they replace the hard drive. that's still called a repair. I hope your IQ has improved in these 4 years buddy.
Yes. Title should not be How to Repair a Refrigerator Door Gasket, it should be How to Replace a Refrigerator Door Gasket, because they can be repaired.
If you can get the model number go to this website www.espares.co.uk. I too have a Hot Point and i got the universal gasket for £24.00. They have my model number. Good luck
not quite for me. must be an older frig...the gasket is clamped into place via hex head screws...the gasket is seated inbetween a panel seam of the door. ummpph!
So can't you just repair it somehow with some glue? Lol.. serious question. I'm having this problem now. What happens with the old one, it just becomes worn out or something?
This is not how you "repair" a gasket, its how to "replace" a gasket...BIG DIFFERENCE! You should change the title if you want to do the right thing here.
I was debating trying to replace the gasket on my freezer but I asked my self where the fuck am I going to find a gasket for a freezer that is 20 + years old. Now I'm shopping for a new one...
I have the some problem. The 19 years old freezer is working perfect and only gasket should be replace.Factory is not supplying such part beacuse unit is to old.Fuck them.
migueld77 a replace is a repair , the same as an automobile. When a mechanic replaces a bad part he has just repaired your fucking vehicle , you schmuck !
Thank you for a useful and short VID.
You're not repairing anything. You're replacing. Defeats the purpose of people seeking to repair.
Short and sweet and straight to the point. Perfect.
Thank you this is a very helpful. I don't care what you call it "repair or replace" it help me fix the problem! That is what is important to me,
I agree with you - as long as we find out how its done - that's all that matters. Helped me too :-)
This is my project for next weekend! Thank you.
Man!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you so much for this video! Can't believe what a quick and easy fix it was.
Another replace gasket vs repair.
I guesd we could also repair the whole fridge with a new one.

Thank you very much, good sir!
As for replace Vs repair. He is repairing the fridge by replacing the gasket.
Thanks.

angelamariapreuss correct ! If you replace a car part that wasn't working , THAT'S called a repair !

this is called a replacement.. not a repair.
lol.....There is a BIG difference between repair and replace. About $100 or more.
Does this apply to Electrolux fridges as well?
Replace is if he was to buy an entirely new fridge. Repair is fix the situation that is causing his fridge to overwork the condenser.
Yes, if the title was "repair fridge" but it's "repair gasket" which would have been interesting to see.
Thank you! I'm converting my mini fridge into a DIY egg incubator since it's way cheaper than buying the actual one.

you might want to consider the difference between "REPAIR" and "REPLACE" :/
Pavan Soni Agreed
I agree with Vani but who mislabeled the video -- Steve or RUclips
“press right back in” yet im 2 hours deep, this shit don’t press right back in
In the process of replacing the seal, which was old and causing the fridge to overwork and leak, he repaired it...
Bickering. Food cold? Shop. Eat. Shut up.

This is not a repair of the gasket, just a replacement
Vani B how stupid are you , really ?
How the hell are you suppose to repair a faulty (most likely moldy) gasket strip? Also how cheap can you be?
So you repaired a door gasket by ordering a new one...
I was debating trying to replace the gasket on my freezer but I asked my self where the fuck am I going to find a gasket for a freezer that is 20 + years old.
Now I'm shopping for a new one...
lol exactly hhhh
Ali Baazaoui a Few hours later I purchased a small chest freezer for $300 new.
