S1 - Ep 202 - Gariep Dam - A Town on the Northern Bank of the Orange River!

We arrived late the evening at our accommodation at Gariep Dam and ordered delicious food which was delivered to our doorstep by the owner of a local restaurant. The next morning we started to explore this beautiful town located on the Northern bank of the Orange river. This town was the original dam-building community who did not want to leave after the dam was completed. So that is how it came to be. The view of the village from the top of the hill was breathtaking, not to mention the size of the dam, which is the largest in South Africa. We then took a drive through the holiday resort on the banks of the dam, it was simply fantastic. The Karoo Queen houseboat in the harbour was a beauty and what a privilege to take a tour through it. I would love to stay on board that luxury cruiser. Then we had to go and see the dam wall and it did not disappoint. It is a magnificent feat of human engineering.
