Nice quality build. I was looking at a simple “no build” with stackable crates and bins that would be cheap, simple, lightweight and convenient. This could get me started as I can modify things as I go.
the use of such technical terms, "round thing" from my house....is the kind of content I look for when watching build videos....my kind of wood worker :) Nice build and nice explanation of it.
Lol. Any kind of round thing will work. My particular round thing was a little stoneware cup that I got from a bakery. They have like a custard thing and it comes in that. Figured no one would have my exact round thing lol.
Just an absolutely beautiful build, one of the nicest designs I've ever seen! I own the same exact year and color Element. Haven't built anything yet, but videos like yours give such great ideas, thank you!
Excellent video as always - you just get better and better. Thanks for *actually* showing how you did the build; all of us woodworker wannabes are grateful!
Such a wonderful, polished video as always! Watching the evolution of your setups is always a treat and this looks like your best one yet. bought a Honda HRV last year and have been considering putting together a minimal-build setup so I can try weekend car camping. This video definitely gives me some good ideas. Glad to see you’re keeping busy, please give Kat and Qwerx a big hug on my behalf!🤠👍🐕
Great video! Liked and subscribed. I appreciate your teaching style. I’m an older disabled, but still somewhat capable gal with a 2005 Elenent. Only 162k miles and runs really well, babied the little darling. Getting some ideas, thanks:-)
Lovely and very customized! Not familiar with the Element, it seems rather tall and narrow, but you made the build work ! The side shelves, I'd definitely use in my SUV. I'd put mesh bags into the little cubbies that are hard to reach, to pull up the soft goods or whatever was stored in there.
Hi Sage, I have been waiting so long for this. Drawer Slides are no Joke, good job. You Live in Cool Kids Vill, 2 Elements and a VW? What is going on? Thank you for posting and sharing. Cheers, Mindy
Haha yeah Cat just got her old Element back. She had given it to family but they didn’t need it and she wanted it back. Gotta get rid of that VW though. Thorn in my side.
Sage, I really enjoyed this build, your energy, filming and editing! I would imagine that you would never put all of your weight on those extended hinges? I love your new garage! Do you also have the workshop?
Yeah the extension is not meant to hold my full weight. I think if I beefed up the bolts and washers I used it might be able to but I’d rather not find out. Cat and I moved into this place so we got rid of the shop space we were renting! So this garage is my new shop.
@@wildsage I really love it and your living space is fantastic, too! I’m thrilled that you have such a great life in such a gorgeous part of Oregon! It’s not too far east into the desert, you have amazing mountains, including Batchelor, beautiful volcanic soils and a nice river flowing through town. We’ve stayed at a motel next to the river. Could it be called the Riverside? In college I stayed at a Red Roof Inn? I loved skiing on the bunny slopes of Batchelor because steep parts and speed scare me too much. It was an eight our drive from Eureka. My idiot friend never wanted to make reservations and we got there around midnight and couldn’t find a room so we slept in the car near a turnout. The police shined lights into the car and nicely told us where it would be safer to park. They were very nice to us, two white Jewish guys, me with my Beverly Hills driver’s license and my friend from Topanga Park, I think.
Love this setup! I'm going to be joining my partner with my Element and primarily living in his van with the Element being a secondary short term camper option so this if perfect for us. Curious about your window covers; did you make them yourself or buy them? With so many windows in the Element have been trying to figure out best way to cover them all for sleeping
I had a similar situation with my partner for a while. She had a bigger van so my element was used for all my stuff and for times we were apart but I mostly slept in her van. I made the window cover myself. They’re reflectix covered in gaffers tape. My first go at it I used duct tape but it smells like plastic when it sits in the sun. Gaffers tape is a more fabric feeling tape and looks nicer.
@@crstothard My partner Cat also has an element that I have been using and I got an AWD Astro to replace the element. In the process of building that now.
Great build! I want to re do mine and have the sliding drawer. Twin on one side. Lower, 12 " or so , then I can sit up. A local Carpenter quoted me $65 an hr! Not in my budget. I'll have to buy a jig saw .
re: lower storage issue - make some large 'socks' that fit on the inside, with a string/tether attached to the middle at the bottom. string goes up to a hook where it latches. pull string/tether which brings the contents up from the bottom.
seems like you could have eliminated so much extra work by just having everything be more of an open framework instead of taking all this extra time to custom cut all these peices to fit the odd shapes of the interior. I like the layout, but I'm lazy if I do ever get an element for camping, I will definitely be doing a super minimal version of this as I just don't have the patience for all that custom cut work and I'm sure an open setup of bed with under storage and side shelves could be just as functional with a mostly open framework setup. Thanks for sharing, I need a nap now, watching you do all this work is exhausting.
Sure everyone has got different needs. This build was built for extended work trips so I needed a moderate level of ability to organize my work gear and the typical daily use items. Previously I was was full time in the element and those setups were geared more toward maximizing total storage so I could have all the essentials with me at all times. All the detail work takes time but for me it’s worth it. I wasn’t looking to save time in the build as much as I was looking to save time when I am out on the road. For one it’s kinda fun for me. And secondly it works for my particular situation right now of doing extended trips. But it’s not one size fits all by any means.
I Love your build Sage but, how practical is it to remove (or is it quite firmly IN PLACE?) if you need to transport something LARGE?? Just wondering. I get called upon to move some pretty crazy stuff in my 2003.
Haha yeah I’ve moved just about every piece of furniture in mine. It’s amazing what they can fit. My plan was to leave it in most of the time but to be able to remove it within 5-10 minutes. It was actually pretty easy to take out. You just give the center platform a good pull until It loosens up and then you can pull it all the way out. Then the two side things are freed up so you can just remove them. The hardest part is just unpacking everything out of the shelves and the big drawer because I typically had all my camping gear stored in those area. Unfortunately I totaled the element in June though. Amazingly all of the build stayed pretty firmly in place during the crash. The shelves did sustain some damage though. And since I no longer had an element I got rid of them.
@@wildsage Big Fat Bummer Sage. As long as YOU and any fellow occupants weren't hurt; there's always another build around the corner! I really like your work ethic!
I don’t use one. I do have a soft sided cooler that would actually fit on the shelves inside. It could maybe hold a six pack and a few other small things. The space under the bed always stays cool enough to keep most veggies from going bad.
@@wildsage Makes sense for where you're located. That would not work down here in the south. haha I'd love to know why you decided to put another piece of plywood on the bottom of the platform? For stability? I'm thinking about if I had a flat tire and had to pull the entire platform out.
I’m 5’11”. This bed is technically like 6’5” or swim thing so you could fit but you’d have zero room. But if you put your feet between the seats you can dangle them past the platform.
I have to be honest this is one of the most impressive builds that I have seen three loud cheers... thank you for sharing this
Wow, thank you!
Great looking design. I’m inspired but I know I couldn’t do all that woodwork. I love the Honda Element and have been looking at a couple.

Nice dude! Looks good. The bungee cords is smart to keep things in and accessible. Long live the Honda Element.
I’ve tried several strap/bunjee setups and none have quite worked and also been convenient. So far I like this one best.

Thank you. I appreciate it. I loved this build but it was only alive for a short while.
love your set up. glad to see you still have your Element.
