    This video is EXCELLENT. I came hoping to get some info, and left with all the info I could ever need. Also, I am upgrading my tailgate lock thanks to you. I didn't even know Honda finally listened to its customers and released this upgrade.

      Michael, I'm glad you found the video helpful, despite my not filming the part you needed. LOL! I shoot my videos with my iPhone and I'm on my second wireless microphone and still not satisfied with the quality. I got my first wireless mic from AliExpress and it was ok, but not great. So I paid triple the cost and got one from Amazon and it's worse. Grrrrrrr!

    Thanks for the video. My interest is being able to replace the tailgate lip if it gets torn up with use. Having to tap to the passenger side would not have been obvious.

    • @Koolbob2
      @Koolbob2  Год назад

      Yes, the clips are designed to be easy to tap into place, no doubt aiding in quick assembly at the factory. They are also designed to be very difficult to pull out, so the tailgate cap won't come off unintentionally when heavy objects impact it or are dragged across the cap. sliding the cap over to release it and then being able to reuse the clips is genius, but not intuitive.

      Awesome to know it helped! Did your backup camera harness break just below the left taillight? Several Ridgeline owners have had their wires break, sometimes the dealers have repaired the wires under warranty, sometimes they bill the owner for the repair. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is looking into it, so hang on to your receipts, you may be eligible for a refund depending on what the NHTSA decides.

    Great demonstration! Very helpful. Consider adding in to your description how to replace the back up camera as well... that is what drew me here... the need to replace my back up camera. As I was walking behind my ridgeline with a paper towel I gave it a quick clean... unfortunately I had pine-sol soaked in my paper towel, and my camera went from working to not working that quickly.

      Glad to hear the video was helpful and I'll follow your suggestion and add 'back up camera replacement' to the title/description.
      Before you buy a new backup camera, drop open your tailgate and inspect the backup camera wires near the hinge on the left side of the tailgate. These wires are flexed a lot whenever the tailgate is dropped open or swung open and over time the protective jacket around the wires and the wires themselves can break down. If your's is broken there's good news and bad news. The good news is that Honda is aware of the problem and the wire harness that goes from the camera to just behind the bumper where it joins the main vehicle wire harness can be replaced. The bad news is so far Honda has not opted to cover this as a recall or manufacturing effect and is charging customers to replace the wire.
      If you have a good relationship with your dealer they may absorb some or all of the cost. You can also pay to have them replace the wires harness and seek a refund from Honda. The harness itself cost about $100 and you can order it on-line and replace it yourself. If you pay anything to have the harness replaced, keep your receipts. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is looking into the situation and may take action.

      @@Koolbob2 Somehow RUclips didn't notify me of your reply :( Thanks for your very helpful answer.... I just tackled this today and it turns out it was indeed broken wires at the hinge point. All the wires were broken at the same spot so they must flex right on that spot. I used solder shrink tubes and put them back together... still had to take everything apart to get to them. If it happens again I will likely bridge the wires again with more shrink tubes : ) I removed the 2 zip tie downs so the wires can flex along several inches instead of just on one spot. I appreciate the help!😀

    • @Koolbob2
      @Koolbob2  11 месяцев назад

      The clips are only a few dollars each and you may not need any, but odds are you will break a clip or two removing the tailgate cap so I'd recommend ordering three or four when you order the locking handle kit. Here's the part of the video where I show the part number for the clips. ruclips.net/video/OS-azheiJQ8/видео.html

      Thanks for the response. I have the parts on order. Also on my 2019 ridgeline, rear seat on drivers side will not lock in up position. I have inspected the handle and cables seem to be ok and working. Honda dealership said the would have to remove the seat and quoted me a minimum of $450. I am not willing to pay that much. I cannot find anything on you tube on removing the seat and do not feel confident enough to dive in without some sort of instruction. What is your advice on this problem?

    • @Koolbob2

      @@Flyman48 I've never had any problem with the rear seats so I don't have any experience working on them. I did find these Illustrated instructions for the accessory trailer harness kit installation include rear seat removal step-by-step; 2017 version is here:

    Question did you have video to install popandlock with solenoid? Also is there a top quality solenoid that last? Can I splice popandlock wires to truck lock in bed instead of going g to fuse panel? Have 2007 ridgeline

    • @Koolbob2
      @Koolbob2  6 месяцев назад +1

      I installed an electric Pop-N-Lock in my 2012 Ridgeline but I wasn't making videos back then. I had to replace the solenoid a couple of times and I bought 'heavy duty' solenoids, but they are all cheaply made and either the motor in the solenoid dies or the plastic tip on the actuator arm snaps off. They just can't handle all the lock/unlock cycles that come with locking and unlocking the truck every day so I installed a bypass switch under my dash. When the switch is on the tailgate lock operates along with the door locks, flip the switch off and the tailgate lock stays in it's current position no matter how many times I lock and unlock the truck doors.
      Pop-N-Lock has instructions for tapping into the driver's side rear door lock wires, it's actually pretty easy. On mine I tapped into the wires as instructed by Pop-N-Lock, but I ran one wire up under the dash to my bypass switch, then back to the Pop-N-Lock so the tailgate solenoid only worked when I allowed it to since the solenoids aren't very robust.

    Thanks for the video, it looked like it was a separate key? If so, do you know if there's a different lock that would work with the actual truck key?

    • @Koolbob2
      @Koolbob2  Год назад

      New trucks that come with a tailgate lock from the factory have a key that fits all the locks. If you add a Honda tailgate lock the lock comes with a pair of new keys that don’t match the truck. You can have a locksmith re-key the tailgate lock so your ignition key will work. I only need to lock the tailgate a few times a year, do it doesn’t bother me to have a separate tailgate key.

      Thanks for watching and GREAT question!
      I had a 2012 Ridgeline and it was great, traded it in for the 2018. I think the locking mechanism is the same in the first and second generation Ridgeline. I'd suggest taking a piece of paper, laying it up against the handle on your truck and trace the outline of the handle. Then trim the paper so it matches the shape of your handle exactly. The next time you see a second generation at a dealership or see someone driving one ask if you can compare your paper template to the handle on their truck. If they are the same shape, then I'm pretty sure the new handle with a lock kit will fit. All of the new, locking handles have a hole for the backup camera, if you don't have a backup camera on your truck you will need to plug the camera hole on the new handle.

      I found the violet colored clip for a 2021 Ridgeline on-line, but the photo looks like the short clip that came on my 2018 Ridgeline and not like the longer clip that came with the tailgate lock. www.hondapartsnow.com/genuine/honda~snap~72139-sr0-a01.html Here's the replacement lock with the longer clip. www.hondapartsguys.com/oem-parts/honda-tailgate-lock-cylinder-8z07t6z100d?origin=pla&gclid=Cj0KCQiAnrOtBhDIARIsAFsSe52fOel057AM5h2pDJ2gE51gGHUG4YWZBtfEX4QuBCCnwAWXzerhXnIaAuUhEALw_wcB I would recommend ordering the $5 clip, maybe the webpage hasn't been updated and you will receive the newer style longer clip.

    Will this work with a Pop n Lock?

    • @Koolbob2
      @Koolbob2  Год назад

      Thanks for watching!
      Pop n Lock (PnL) makes their own tailgate handle that works with the PnL mechanism, but I don't recommend getting it for 3 reasons. 1- the PnL handle is unpainted black plastic. 2- the PnL lock is in inferior 4-tumbler lock like you would find on a filing cabinet. 3- the PnL plastic becomes brittle after a few years.
      I ditched the PnL power lock mechanism and handle because the OEM handle is much better made. I really recommend you consider doing the same.
