    I played through half the game with SDR because I thought this game like many others did not implement HDR properly to bother using. But I toggled it on just to see about 15 hours in and boy was I pleasantly surprised to see how much better everything looks.

    Finally, an HDR comparison video that is ACTUALLY using HDR! Can't tell you how many similar videos i had to sift through that were trying to show the difference between HDR and SDR, but were only using the SDR color space. No wonder so many creators are calling HDR a scam, they don't even understand the basic fundamentals of how it works.
    Thanks for making a proper HDR comparison video!

  • @sermerlin1
    @sermerlin1 Год назад +2

    Honestly... It's not that people are less interested in it... It's that people don't actually understand what they are looking at there except looking at the screen "oh one is brighter the other one is more flat"...
    The video editing, cutting, recording it's all good job done there BUT... What you need to do is make some obvious pointing out and showcasing the actual advantage instead of just letting viewers trying to figure it out on their own as that takes time since they have to study each scene by comparing the two to get "oh yeah that's where it's improved" and instead of letting them figure that out, just straight away point it out to them...
    And maybe go in depth somewhere within the video duration etc...
    Also another reason why NOW it doesn't have much views is because literally there aren't a lot of people out there doing this thing right now and people are not aware of what is it and what's going on.
    My suggestion is to not bail out because it doesn't work now in terms of views as back investment... But continue and try to make it more interesting by pointing out obvious things in the comparisons as I mentioned (doesn't need to be voice over video it can be text and arrow pointer to focus viewers attention).
    Also another point i'd like to make is that this year there will be a lot more HDR capable viewers as market is going to get flooded with OLED monitors and you can pretty much guess what that means... They will literally be searching for HDR content on youtube and elsewhere and with enough tags you will be appearing in their search as well.
    So keep going my friend and keep improving. :)

    It's hard to get HDR working in this game, if its turned on but everything looks dim and washed out, here's what you may have to do. Turn HDR on in windows settings, launch the game, you can now set the HDR to automatic (instead of stuck on off) don't exit the game but tab out and turn HDR OFF in windows settings, now go back to the in game hdr and switch it from off to automatic, as you do this you should see the screen get brighter, you are now really in hdr. I have no idea why this works

    • @kyledupont7711
      @kyledupont7711 Год назад

      Another note for anybody struggling to get this to work, if you can't switch back and forth from off to automatic, and its stuck on either automatic or off, you're probably not in HDR. You will be able to tell because when you switch it from off to automatic and hit apply the menu will get brighter and everything will look amazing. Launch the game with Windows HDR on, tab out of the game or push windows alt B To turn HDR off in windows, now flip back and forth between off and auto in the game and you can see it changing back and forth, remember in the windows menu it will say it's OFF! It took me hours to figure this out

    Hi. I have such a problem. I have an LG OLED B7V TV, a PlayStation 5 and a Dead Space Remake. In the RUclips app on the TV, I can watch this video in HLG HDR mode. But in the game itself in HDR mode, I can't get such a clear, bright and contrasting image. My image in the game is more like the SDR mode from your video on the right of the screen. But, again, in the RUclips app, the image on left side is great. What could be the problem ?

      @FilippoTarpini Год назад

      @@ilovelctr no, unreal games don't do this for example. The SDR/HDR conversion is done as the very last step, the only difference is in brightness, post process effects can't depend on it.

    • @whiskhot
      @whiskhot Год назад +3

      They are not.What you're seeing in HDR is the details that SDR can't render when the luminosity is high.Since the details aren't rendered,the whole luminous zone just look like what you call "bloom".
      The purpose of HDR is to be able to correctly display the very low and very high luminosity details.It is not to display more luminous or deeper blacks as some people think. You don't need HDR to display the 0-255 range and the brightness of the picture depends on the monitor/TV and not on the HDR or SDR setting.
      It is as if in SDR you could see only the 0,the 10,the 20 the 30 etc and in HDR,you can see each numbers:0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 etc...

    • @FilippoTarpini
      @FilippoTarpini Год назад +1

      @@whiskhot bloom is purpously toned down by the codes/shaders when they know they are outputting HDR. It's not like it's a direct consequence of the TV being HDR. Bloom is increased in SDR because it's needed to represent bright lights. In HDR it's not, you directly get brighter lights.

    In some places SDR looks better than HDR. You have to consider ''air pollution'' and consider how it scatters light. HDR sometimes makes it look too clean, SDR sometimes (or often) makes it look too messy. Than again, I'm fairly convinced that even SDR screens can achieve damn near HDR results by cranking up CONTRAST and cranking down BRIGHTNESS.

  • @mosthated8848
    @mosthated8848 Год назад +1

    Looks fine in SDR HDR is a gimmick in most content just like raytracing.

  • @ThatGuy-Noob_69
    @ThatGuy-Noob_69 Год назад

    This is indicative of OLED behavior & how SDR restricts peak brightness to almost half what the TV is capable of. But, if you look at the QN90B it can still hit 2,000nits in SDR. I wish there was a comparison like that to see the actual "real difference" of HDR vs SDR rather than just watching a crippled display when it is in SDR's performance.

    • @GamingTech-YouTube
      @GamingTech-YouTube  Год назад +1

      Sorry to say that but you need to understand first what the main difference is between SDR and HDR. Even the QN90B would be able to hit 2000nits in SDR the result will be a very bright overall picture but still no specular highlights like I'm HDR. Dynamic Range of SDR is very limited.

    • @ThatGuy-Noob_69
      @ThatGuy-Noob_69 Год назад +1

      @GamingTech From my experience there was less shadow detail & the middle section was lifted a bit with less difference between the brightest object & APL but, dark was still dark, & bright still got HDR bright. I tried Forza Horizon at night & many other examples because I got very curious about the difference. After all, HDR didn't unleash the APL monster that was the QN90B because the way HDR is graded in most games it wasn't much different to an OLED in strictly "Brightness" & the headlights were still blazing bright & the rest of the world was still dark in Forza. The difference I found was less gradience, less color, a slightly washed picture presentation, and overall less contrast but at the benefit of much higher APL in bright scenes. It didn't just turn a dark hallway into the middle of the day SDR still limited brightness for what the scene called for but, if the TV brightness was adjusted in that hallway it would only affect the lights in the hallway or anything "bright" for many notches it didn't just lift the whole picture. In your video, it shows the behavior of an OLED as I said where it looks practically the same except for no highlights and less shadow detail "contrast" I had both QN90B & S95B and kept the S95B because well OLED once you go there there is no going back lol & this video perfectly depicts what happened when I tried this on the S95B & HDR is certainly better overall! But, with the QN90B and many other LED TVs SDR honestly just looks like Low-Quality HDR with less contrast in the Shadows & Highlights and as mentioned a few other things. But, not like this where there are zero highlights. So, I wish there was a video out there that showed the true difference not just what happens on a TV where the brightness in SDR doesn't reach the brightness it can in HDR. Whereas almost all LEDS can.

      The thing is that for most games HDR is just bugged and in many cases does not apply correctly without some workaround especially on Windows. There are countless games where turning on HDR makes the colours washed out und even dims the brightness compared to SDR. In most cases, you need to fumble around like turning of Auto-HDR in Windows, or starting the game with HDR turned on in Windows and then disable it once the game is running and so forth. It's different for every game there is no consitency. With consoles it's better but also depends what settings you have on your TV. No wonder there are countless forum posts where people question if HDR works for their game. Once it runs properly though, it's glorious. Just a huge pain to get it running.
