Dogs lose health just like you. You can tell by the rail. The tail will lover as the dog loses health. When your dog reaches 10 health it will start to wine. You can heal your dog by feeding it meat and you will see the tail raise back up. They have 40 health when fully healed. Also dog armor is made with armadillo skin
Form please listen up, you can feed your dog meat or rotten flesh to heal it after being damaged. It's tail is how much health it has bc if the tail is down is has low health
Form I would recommend getting wolf armor if you’re going to get another dog you can get wolf armor by brushing armadillos that can be found in the Acacia biome

Just a little tip you can use swords to harvest bamboo much faster and leave 1 bamboo at the bottom so it can grow all the time so you don't have to replant it

Formula you could breed your dog and make a dog army you just have to get raw beef raw prckshop and feed it to both dogs
if you dont want to hit your dog fight with an axe instead as there is no splash damage
Use rotten flesh to heal your dogs

When cutting the bamboo use your sword it cuts really fast and can save some time
