    I would like to rotate the scene while it is playing, and also zoom in. I have not found that tutorial yet.

      If you have the default settings in the viewport (and camera isn't locked), hold Alt+RMB to orbit, Alt+LMB to pan, and mouse scroll to zoom. Works for me even while playing in 8.4. The center button (found same place as the home button) on the toolbar is super handy to point the camera at whatever is selected.
