My family arranged for me to spend a night at the Chateau to celebrate my 80th Birthday and making up a party of 3 couples and myself. Yes we got discounted 3 rooms, had dinner and breakfast in the widely acclaimed Ruapehu Dining room. We all arrived home late this afternoon. After watching thie video above I can now understand why we all felt a little disappointed in different areas. Finding only sachet coffee,sugar etc in the rooms was a let down, room service coffee was not of a good standard and not hot, also served in paper cups. We were in top quality rooms.not standard or economy. The food in the " Formal dining room" was ok and plentiful but no WHITE tablecloths on most of the tables! Drinks Service was pathetic with no return to see if more drinks were need. Coffee was not offered after the meal... I had wanted to stay at the Chateau for many years and I have to say this weekends' stay was nothing like I expected. Its beauty is there but the changes by the new Manager/ owner whatever make it seem like a very ordinary hotel.
