Ive been in admin (scheduling, GM) on the builder side my whole career. Ready to get my hands dirty and wear my cap on backwards. Love your content. Thank you.
@@ChlorineKingPoolService I realize the importance of the presentation. Im going to be competing with people with accounts already in play. Id love to hear your insight on this topic. My fav sales quote is “Its all in the presentation”. Thank you!
I always call an estimate a presentational interview. They are buying into “you” so you have to show your value over the competition. Fortunately, that’s not terribly difficult to do. I find simple things like answering the phone and showing up near the majority that’s out there.
Thanks for the great insight. Licensing is at the top of my list. Jacksonville FL area here. I would love any local contacts or recommendations you have on classes up here. The testing part isn’t a concern, it’s all the prerequisites (4 years, experience as a foreman, etc...) I don’t want to go through the studying and testing to only find out I can’t get licensed due to prerequisites.
You're very welcome! I just launched a Patreon and one of the perks is getting a discount with The Exam Pros. They helped me get my license. Check it out at www.patreon.com/chlorineking I'm happy to help however I can!
If you don't have a 4 year degree... you can take the AST course which cuts your experience down from 4 years to 1. That way you can help get your license quicker!
hey so its been almost 1 year since I started servicing pools, however, what actual experience do I need for a c53 license? Assuming I don't have bachelors to cut down the time? I just need to know if I need to actually have experience in building pools. Can I just use the experience for servicing pools?
I've been cleaning pools in Fl for 20 years, Fl. makes you jump through hoops to get your license. good luck getting a licensed pool contractor to sign off on your paperwork .
I definitely need to get my license. From asking other guys they make it seem like it’s impossible to get one. If you don’t mind, I would really like to know how. Thanks for all the info you put out!
It's not all that difficult! I'll make a separate video about it. Contact Rob Estell (out of the Miami area). He has a contractor school that preps you for the exams. It's what I used to help me pass my exams.
Did you ever make a video on the path to becoming licensed? Did you have to get referred or work along side someone and have them vouch for your work? Also- when referring out work (when you were unlicensed), did you negotiate a price with the contractor that you recommended to do the repairs? Love the videos!
Thanks for watching CBay. I do need to make a video on what is needed to be done to be licensed. As far as referring out work, in the beginning, no, but eventually found someone that was willing to give me referral money for each job I provided them. I'm the same way. I wouldn't be in the backyard if it wasn't for the referral.
Thanks for watching Arthur. A CPO is just a certification to prove you have the basic knowledge to operate a commercial pool. In fact, you can't get hired to do a commercial pool unless you have this certification. This certification does not allow you to do repairs. A pool contractors license (if you state requires it, like mine does) allows you to do repairs. Here in Florida, if you need a tool to do work on a pool, you need a contractors license. The license does not allow you to service commercial pools. You'll still need a CPO at that point. I hope this helps. Take care.
It varies wildly... Some builders want their pools started up differently. What I would do is devise a charge per trip, then from there see how many trips the builder/renovator wants you to come out for and that's how you'd devise your final price. If you start up I'd document everything so you can have the finger pointed at you if the pool has issues down the road.
If someone’s been doing this stuff without a license, how can they represent that work experience when they’re then applying for a license? Isn’t there a risk that they’d inadvertently put themselves as having done this work unlicensed?
I've read with the DBPR that if you are just cleaning the pool, you don't need to have your contractors license. While I agree, you should have your license as a value proposition, can you confirm that if you are not making repairs and are just "cleaning" the pool, you do not need a license? In other words, can I technically buy a pool route without a license and just clean pools?
Hey John. If you're just cleaning pools you DO NOT need a contractors license. A license is only required if you're doing repairs to pool equipment or renovating a pool surface and/or deck. I hope this helps. Good luck with your business.
No you do not just for cleaning and chemicals. If you decide to do commercial you have to have your CPO, but other than that there is not a requirement for residential at this time.
Love your videos but this is not the case in California! To get your license here you only have to take the law portion of the test, D35 (not the trade portion) the only requirement is you have to have 4 yrs in the industry. Either another pool guy with a license sign off for you or a customer whos pool you've been servicing for the past 4yrs.
I should have put in the video that it's based on Florida requirements. The less steps in Cali are great compared to in Florida. Above in Georgia you don't need anything... You can build a pool your first day on the job.
Yes then definitely contact Rob Estell. He's based out of South Miami, but his course is online along with his practice tests. He also has an application assistance too that I recommend.
I get P.O. when I see these pool trucks that are unmarrked for obvious reason. Imagine if the counties would start cracking down on these perps like mine. (Broward County). The rates would be higher for the legitimate guys like myself.
Believe me that's one of the most frustrating things in my area too. They come in a lot cheaper than I do but they can't offer any type of protection or warranty for the client. We spent thousands to get our license. Why should we charge the same rate as the unlicensed guys?
Hey Chlorine King! Thank you for the video! Currently I do 94 pools in four days working for a Pool contractor. He pays me very well but I’m ready to leave the nest and fly on my own. (Doing these pools in Marco Island). I CERTAINLY BELIEVE IN GETTING LICENSED. So as of today I’m doing the research on it. Cheers!
Thanks for the comment bud! I understand that! Being your own boss is awesome! Paul Lambert actually I beg to differ. Taken right out of Jandy’s Warranty information... “This warranty applies only to products installed and serviced by a contractor who is licensed and qualified in pool equipment by the jurisdiction in which the product will be installed, where such state or local requirements exists.” See for yourself. It’s about 1/4 of the way down. If you’re going to make a post and say I’m wrong make sure you have your facts correct. Have a great night. www.zodiac.com/-/media/zodiac/global/downloads/tse/jandy-us-tse-dealer/new-jandy-limited-warranty.pdf
Soon wanting to start a new pool biz in Arizona.... Been watching many of your videos. I appreciate the help and insight, Boss!

I think one of the best benefits besides being insured and bonded is the ability to go out and freely market and advertise your company.
Completely agree with this!
Useful advice, thanks! look forward to more pool contractor license videos!
You're very welcome! I have several on the channel showing what you can do with the license :)

Did you take the AST certification? Or which route did you go for repair training? Thanks
Thanks for sharing that info. Definitely gonna look into it.
You're welcome. It's totally worth it getting your license.
Thank you! This was a huge help to me.
You're welcome Bruce! I'm glad to help you!
In Sarasota county it's $15
That's awesome. Glad to hear it.

It’s crazy considering Georgia doesn’t require any licensing at all.
Would you need a license to switch out/lube up o-rings? Thanks
Nope. No license needed for that or changing cartridges.
I definitely need to get my license. From asking other guys they make it seem like it’s impossible to get one. If you don’t mind, I would really like to know how. Thanks for all the info you put out!

I will get you 15 to 20 leads every month and you don't have to pay us until we get you that many leads.
So in Florida do you need a license to just clean??
No license required just to clean.

What's the average cost for start ups? New construction and resurfacing. Is it the same price?

My costumers only stay whit me because of my work and me but I want my license so bad

Contact Rob Estell if you're in Florida. He has a contractor school that helps out tremendously for the exam. Let him know I sent you!
Chlorine King Pool Service yes I am in Clearwater.

Hahaha try 48 five days a week buddy
Why you don’t tell people how to get a license?
Hey Luis. It really depends on the state you're in. In FL... there's a ton you have to do. In GA you can build a pool without a license.
Umm. He is wrong. The warranty is the same. There is absolutely no difference, scare tactics.
