And that was why he and Roman asked Shiv to invite Nate to the tailgate party and not did it himself and to their 'surprise', Matsson showed up too, conveniently just in time for the party. Shiv is a front runner who always finishes last due to her own envy and jealousy grounded in the fact that she feels she never got a fair shake because she was born a woman.
She never got a "fair shake" in this company cause she was playing politics until season 2 she's is the most inexperienced not surprised at all Matteson snakes her
Shiv is always is one small step away from triumph, blocked by her own sheer arrogance and total lack of self-awareness. Nate knew what she was up to, all she had to do was call him and ask him to corroborate if he got a follow-up call! Also, the writing team obviously based much of this episode on the current political climate, but I found this scene in particular to be perfectly representative. The Republicans are still that Simpson's meme "We're just plain evil!". The Democrats too operate entirely out of their own self-interests and thirst for power, but if you stop to question whether your interests are included in those, it's instant pearl clutching as Shiv pulls out here. One of my favorite in the whole series.
maybe it’s me having being caught in a lie more times than i can count but man i don’t understand how people don’t practice that “what bs am I gonna pull out of my ass if someone finds out im doing this” excuse
That scene was soool uncomfortable to watch. Watching the two of them confronting Shiv like that, you could see how lost and intimidated she was. Amazing acting and great script
This was my favorite scene in the episode. Shiv getting caught and pathetically trying to talk her way out of it was very entertaining. Did you guys notice at 1:27 in the video, Shiv’s eyes bug out when Kendall said he was going to call Nate? I laughed so hard! Lol! Did she honestly think he wouldn’t call himself to get answers? When she saw the look on Kendall’s face while on the phone, she knew she was f***. But when she saw him talking to Greg, she knew she was royally f***. Greg may be a goof but he’s a valuable one. She shouldn’t have threatened him.
I think this could be my favourite scene in the whole series. The look Shiv has as she is getting busted, blabbing away trying to spin her lies. The timing of when the music starts. Roman knowing it’s BS. Shiv getting knocked down after threatening Greg. But the chefs kiss is the smile from Greg as he walks by. Hard to see, and you almost have to pause it, but it’s gold.
Siempre que Shiv Roy miente Sarah Snook hace una inflexión en su voz, ésta se aplana, se torna grave y rápida o lenta dependiendo de quién es. Me encantaaa
I think Connor's described Shiv best: "remember when you used to play post office and stamped all the mail that came into the house?, this is like that. I have no interest in speaking with you"
This scene shows why Shiv is a bad choice. 1 she can't lie to save her life or at the very least she can't sustain a lie much like we see in season 3 when kendel easily attacks her by just making her uncomfortable during a speech. Another issue is Shiv thinks like a politician, and not a business person which roman and kendel actually had training in working for there father. You can see hoonce roman gets her talking Kendel instantly figures out something is wrong. As a team kendel and roman are amazing. It's kinda sad how Shiv will always be an outsider even in her own family. She really is her mother
“Fuck you. This is about the future of the country.” “No, I think it’s because you broke up with your boyfriend.” and that just sums up this entire show doesn’t it
Objectively speaking, the only thing Shiv did wrong was be sloppy and falter when confronted. Kendall is making plans to cut out Roman and Shiv and Roman is an idiot doing whatever he wants because, "Dad did whatever he wanted". Both are making moves in their own interest not caring about the collateral. Shiv is looking out for herself because her entire life is a family that lives by one rule, "how does this serve my interest". Shiv's actions are a betrayal yes, but that's natural for a Roy. Ken and Rome know this and are just trying to hurt her out of petty anger.
I'd argue that she made another massive mistake which was once again mistreating and alienating potential allies. Shiv betraying Kendall and Roman is fine, but once again she made Tom angry and, when she could have bought Greg's silence, she made a toothless threat against him. Shiv's biggest problem is that she is intelligent but she thinks that she is smarter than everyone else. She also threatens and bullies people who she perceives as beneath her, unlike Logan who kept track of everyone's interests and played them to his advantage. When she was in the room at the end, she found herself with no allies because Kendall did his due diligence, Greg ratted her out, and Tom wouldn't support her. She basically made the same mistakes that she made in the Season 3 finale.
It’s not so much about doing wrong. She’s playing the game and making mistakes. She’s choosing a stranger over her brothers - he’s untrustworthy and now that she’s been caught she’s allied with someone who wants to hide the fraudulent numbers. She could have promised Greg something but didn’t so he told and finally, she trusted Tom again after his betrayal last season!
Their dad taught them to fight with each other but in the end it must serve the whole family. Shiv is being plain selfish. She always has been. That’s why her dad played her in season 2.
@@sarazara159 There dad played all of them at one point or another. As for serving the family, he cut them all out in the end of season 3 by re-opening the divorce agreement and pulling control from the company from them so HE could win and sell the company regardless of what they wanted. The whole, "it's for the family" stuff has been pretty well established as B.S. that they use to justify there self serving moves.
It was a dumb move but I like how Roman never lost focus of Mencken after learning Shiv was playing both sides. The average person would spiral down that topic
The advantage Kendall has over not just Shiv but also Roman is that he understands the utility of Greg.

@@jimmylee9120 no thats not it, she would have had more power if she voted for Ken but then Ken would have been above her, and this she could not accept. She would much rather have less power if it means she has more power than Ken
@@cainandabel7059 🤣🤣 are you dumb? Ofc there is a difference. Her husband on the throne. Someone who she is having a child with or her brother who she barley talks to...
@@jimmylee9120 but Mattson is the king and her husband is the puppet.
@@jlopezb04 that's like being the puppet of a president... You still have ALOT more power than anyone else... In the situation where Kendal wins she gets lot less power
One of the best scenes of this show!!!
I know right? I’ve watched it so many times already.
1:52 It was at this moment he knew, Shiv fcked up. 😂
Concerned for the state of the republic
Flips to Mencken the next day
This is my favorite scene of the whole show XD
Greg owned it
"This is about the future of the country." 😂 Lol. None of them gave a shit about the country.
Greg the fucking Egg
I just love the way the music picks up as Kendall walks past the window. Chilling.
The scary part about this clip is that it’s real life. The media actually does this stuff.
Shiv is a front runner who always finishes last due to her own envy and jealousy grounded in the fact that she feels she never got a fair shake because she was born a woman.
She never got a "fair shake" in this company cause she was playing politics until season 2 she's is the most inexperienced not surprised at all Matteson snakes her
@ 1:52 Nate "I didn't just talk to Shiv" 🤣🤣🤣
A sibling rivalry, like children arguing in the kitchen, that ultimately affects the stability of the country.
super funny the way the music picked up while shiv eyed Kendall lmao
Shiv is outsider and she's the only one who's not aware of it is getting everyone screaming
Wellll... Mencken. Mencken, right?
Mencken.
No. What?!
Tom!
NNNO!
poor Shiv, that second "no" always cracks me up
Insane to watch the final scene between the three of them back to back with this one.
maybe it’s me having being caught in a lie more times than i can count but man i don’t understand how people don’t practice that “what bs am I gonna pull out of my ass if someone finds out im doing this” excuse
When Kendall called her a piece of dirt I was like omgggggg lmao
Siempre que Shiv Roy miente Sarah Snook hace una inflexión en su voz, ésta se aplana, se torna grave y rápida o lenta dependiendo de quién es. Me encantaaa
When you catch someone in a lie, the stuttering in inevitable. Every time.
Shiv is the absolute worst. She never played her hand in an effective manner
I think Connor's described Shiv best: "remember when you used to play post office and stamped all the mail that came into the house?, this is like that. I have no interest in speaking with you"
He ended wars that he started hahaha
Shiv doing the do ie sleeping with the enemy as a protest f after break up and being reminded is like being caught actually doing it.
“Fuck you. This is about the future of the country.”
“No, I think it’s because you broke up with your boyfriend.”
and that just sums up this entire show doesn’t it
Objectively speaking, the only thing Shiv did wrong was be sloppy and falter when confronted.
@@sarazara159
There dad played all of them at one point or another.
"Shiv's actions are a betrayal yes, but that's natural for a Roy."
Remind me when Roman betrayed anyone?
This is the moment Shiv became Meg.
“I have a concern for the state of the republic and pluralism” 🙄
It was a dumb move but I like how Roman never lost focus of Mencken after learning Shiv was playing both sides. The average person would spiral down that topic
