  • In this lesson, we will learn how to ask and tell the time in Chinese, and learn some useful vocabulary to express your daily routines.
    The following time vocabulary appear: o'clock, 5 past, ten past, twenty past, quarter past, half past, five to, ten to, quarter to.
    Common daily routines in Chinese:
    起床 to get up; 上班 to go to work; 下班 to get off work; 睡觉 to sleep; 洗脸 to wash face; 刷牙 to brush teeth; 回家 to go home; 见朋友 to meet friends; 做家务 to do housework; 休息 to have a rest; 看电视 to watch TV; 做作业 to do homework

    May I know how to say in Chinese that time 09:00am to 11:00am, and one more for 01:00am to 05:00am should be 早上好 or neither, thanks first for your reply,

      01:00 am to 05:00 am e.g. 凌晨五点 5:00 am
      06:00 am to 8:00am e.g. 早上八点 8:00 am
      09:00 am to 11:00am e.g. 上午十点 10:00 am
      More info:
      Times of the Day in Chinese
      凌晨: 1:00 - approximately 6:00 am before dawn
      黎明/破晓: The time when the sun rises
      清晨/早晨: The early morning around 6:30 - 8:30 am
      早上/上午: This is the time from dawn to midday.
      中午: This is the middle of the day (12:00 hours).
      下午: 12:00 - 18:00 This is the time from midday (noon) to evening.
      傍晚/黄昏: This is the time when the sun sets or goes down (sunset).
      晚上: 18:00 - 00:00 This is the time from the end of the afternoon to midnight.
      半夜/午夜: This is the middle of the night (00:00 hours).

    hi I am studying Chinese. I found your channel and watched this video, but I am confused because at the begining of the video you say FEN as part of minutes. so according that as example about minute, 12: 55 minutes, you say 五十五分, but then you say also later , 11:15 十五分。 so the position for minutes can be before and after 10. i don't talk about o'clock. thanks

      Yes. To show units of ten (20, 30, 40 etc) you put “number + 十” if you want to show a two digit number you’d say “Number 十 number” (55 = 5x10 + 5)

    just to clarify, the definition of 上午 is not clear cut as in the video. but 早上tends to have a notation of being earlier than 上午.
