people, this is such a good and free knowledge for anyone want to shoot anything similar to this bottle, and yet there is so many mad because its "5 lights". photography ain't cheap game. Yet you can make a good money. if you watching this and dont have at least two lights, why you buggin to care to comment shit. also yes i think this guy definitely looks like stifler from american pie :)
thank you, it actually helped me really out with my art project 😍😉 which is to advertise a drink 😄 I chose a german coke, but still the technique and the tricks and tips stay the same. I just don't have 4 flashes, just one, so I use the disk, turned it up to the maximum Power and then put a reflector on the other side, very close, whereas the disk stands pretty far away. for the backlighting I used some Ikea Leds and for the light from the top my desk lamp. it turned out great. everybody whining about not having enough gear: get creative!! I've been like this for 2-3 Years, but I realized that you don't need much 😄😂👌
Daniel Livingstone - So? Anyone can recreate this shot if you follow the method. He's showing you how it's done. He didn't say here's how you do it with one light. Annoyingly, you might need a camera as well.
great teacher....well done...why can't more photography channels have a more polished look to their videos like this channel does...walk the walk if you're gonna talk the talk...again bravo and well done!
Dude.... Nice and compact video. Not any boring over 30minutes tutorial. Theres all what you need to know in this video. All what is not in the video, you should figure out on your own. thx for this. Keep up the good work.!
seem so, yes. More hilariously "everyone can do this at home" .. with 5 flashs... who if not a photographer owns 5 flashes (and matching flash discs)? :P
The good ol days. Too much reliance on Photoshop nowadays. And tired of these "one light" setup videos and then they proceed to spend hours in Photoshop stitching together various photos with the light in different locations. Just not feasible in a commercial operation and certainly not worth it for packshots.
im really late to this party! great to see this video as a speedlite guy doing product shots in London UK it reminded me of a couple of approaches to try out next time thanks !
It's good to see ideas on product photography. I shoot mainly in a photojournalistic style, so I don't have a lot of experience shooting product stills. Thanks for the video.
One thing that bugged me in the video was the key light's specular highlight on the front the bottle. I didn't like that at all. I would've done a tighter grid (or snoot) or tried a different angle to reduce or get rid of it. I did notice at the end when you dropped in the city backdrop that it had 'magically disappeared'. I guess you didn't like it either and just photoshopped the reflections out, correct?
Not an easy Photoshop in this case, as the bottle had loads of droplets and it had to be fixed along the entire neck as well. An easier option would be cross polarizing, or shooting with light from a different angle and then comping them.
Certainly you can make all this with only 1 Flash. Use it in different position everytime and then blend all the images together. Of course, it will probable take you much more time, but that is LIFE. Money makes it easier often!
Yup - so few people do this. By using the lighten blend mode, throw a black mask on layer and then just paint in the light you want. Works great and u get multi light look while using a $69 YN560iv! :-)
One downside of the flash discs is that the light they create has a darker bar where the flash head is, this can be seen especially on reflective subjects like a glass bottle. To see what I mean look at the highlight on the left at the base of the neck at 2:56 you can clearly see the nice soft light has a long harsh black strip inside of it. This would be more pronounced if the light was hitting the front of the bottle where the full reflection could be seen. You would not get this with a softbox. The discs are convenient for space but for the price I'd expect a better quality of light to be coming out of them.
What is preventing the back light from showing up in the photo? Just from looking at the set up, it doesn't look like the beer bottle would hide the flash. Of course I'm not looking through your viewfinder either, maybe its just a perspective/angle/near/far/focal length thing.
excuse me, I notice a vertical bar of light on the front face of the bottle at 7:00 in video, but final picture hasn't,have you erase it in post process?
Lee, my eye kept twitching throughout the video because of an unsafe condition. The arm your front light is on is clamped to your combo stand in such a way that gravity is trying to loosen the clamp. If you're going to use a grip-head clamp, you should always rig it so that gravity is pulling the arm clockwise, tightening the clamp.
Jayson, I'm trying to understand what you are saying. I've tightened the clamp and put my weight on it in both orientations and the tightening arm never loosens either way. The first thing to give is actually a pivoting point behind the tightening clamp which allows the arm to pull down in either orientation. If tightened properly, I do not see how the weight of the arm could ever loosen the tightening clamp as you suggest. Maybe these are newer designs that do not loosen when pulled counter clockwise?
Fstoppers Fans The issue may just be with the smaller gobo heads like the one on the end of the arm opposite the speedlight in the video. The first set I ever worked on, I got yelled at for creating an unsafe situation above the talent by rigging one of the gobo arms the wrong way. Ever since, I have been hyper-aware of the direction of these heads.
Jayson Carey I see exactly what your talking about and I don't know jack about booms, but I sure see what your saying. In this particular setup the long end of the boom should be on the right.
I just noticed, this is a damn good advertisement. Yall know yall just watched a 9 min advertisement? Not a bad product but still sure many people went and paid 50 bucks for this product
excellent video... thanx for ur explain.. how u can take video shoot.. any products .. more thane by I phone or any smart phone.. how can I keep my details in pictures.. what since I make my pictures professionals.. thanx 😄
Lee, you are starting to look like a hipster for real! Great video. I like how you are trying things out while showing it on camera. Flashdisk looks pretty interesting :)
@@ropeyarn Those are not C stands, but they are by Mathews, who make C-Stands. They are way bigger. Maybe a Jr. Rolling Stand or some such. products.msegrip.com/products/junior-stand-double-riser-rolling
Were did you get them flash disks on each side of the bottle and can you hake home made soft boxes ect , to use. Also, what is a good cheap flash for a D3200>?
WOW. Thanks for this tutorial. I am learning a lot from you guys. I am a big fan of fstoppers. A request. Please do a tutorial on photoshop how you put the hall think together? This is regarding the bear bottles. Kind regards. Zain..
usually when i do a beer shot like this, i will not put the bottle on the table top, instead i will prop it up on a stand that is of similar diameter , so the edge lights will be even from top to bottom
Guys, as I have not got 5 lights to get this type of shot in one frame, have you currently got or would you make a video on showing how to blend multiple exposures together in photoshop? Thank you
ّ This is a great tutorial, thank you..i think it would be useful if you could include a link to all the tools and equipment you used, as well as share some info regarding the photograph itself (iso, f stop, camera angle lens, etc)
Love it. Only thing I see that bugs me is that the condensation goes all the way up the bottle instead of stopping where the liquid is as real condensation does. Not a huge deal but it is something to consider. :)
Yeah you might be right in that it doesn't happen in the real world but every single ad we referenced had water on the entire bottle. Maybe they are supposed to look like they were just pulled out of a cooler?
How did you fire the light into the BACK of the bottle w/out any light spilling out from the sides of the bottle and no flare hitting the lens ??? I notice that there is no modifier on the flash, so "I'm puzzled".
In the video Lee Morris mentions that he's using the new Version 2 of their flash disc. Looking at their store at FStoppers and at Amazon, it appears there's only one version sold and it's not called version 2. Later in the video he differentiates between the two versions, noting that version one did not have the reflective edges. Anyone know if the version sold at Amazon and on their site is this second version?
Lee, how can i get something like this to take pictures without any shadows. I ned to take photos of items like knifes, forks and spoons, but ultmately I want to turn them into an SVG file. Any guidance is greatly appreciated. I would like to have something easy to set up, and something that I can take to customers and quickly set up.

Yup or some nice photoshopping. I kept starring at it all throughout the video.

Agreed.
He doesn't care. Just wants to push his $50 flash disc.
Which are good, TBF
"Anybody can recreate this shot"
*Uses 5 lights*
so true. just need 5 lights and bunch of diffusers and triggers
Daniel Livingstone - So? Anyone can recreate this shot if you follow the method. He's showing you how it's done. He didn't say here's how you do it with one light. Annoyingly, you might need a camera as well.
But you can do it with 1 light easily. Just needs more time in photoshop to combine the images.
@@oshawaxpress actually, you can use just one light and post prodcution afterwards
6:08 "apparently that's how they do it" -spoken like a true professional
This is exactly how a photo tutorial should be. Kudos!

this video's product placement isn't the beer... but the Flash Disc :)

A manual youngnuo is less than €50. I have 2 and they are good.

I bought yongnuo transreceivers and yongnuo flashes like 20$ each, now I got 5 tx's and 5 flashes. but 2 are SB-910 :D
I thought it was Mizuno? ;-)
Moritz Plambeck Four about $400 you can get 5 Yongnuo flashes.
Can you imagine getting the perfect shot in camera, one exposure with a beer pour? I did it for years on 8x10 transparencies.

That's what I was thinking and you can eliminate that with cross polarization.
Easy Photoshop fix.
Not an easy Photoshop in this case, as the bottle had loads of droplets and it had to be fixed along the entire neck as well. An easier option would be cross polarizing, or shooting with light from a different angle and then comping them.
speedlight on a c-stand, now that makes me giggle XD
Superb tutorial and you explained everything with ease
Approximately $1500 in lights and modifiers in this shot. Looks amazing but just wondering if it could be done with less lights and modifiers?
It definitely could, but like anything, you are paying for the convenience to do it more easily/quickly.
on a really cheap side, you can actually use one light and a light painting kind'a thing, take picture, move light, etc, then merge in PS
Thanks for the replies

It seems to me that a little dry ice would work well and give it that look of just being taken out of the freezer. It would also last longer.
Not frozen just very cold and has beads of water on the glass.
