hello ,travis & suzi. this song was the 3'rd to be released from the 1989. " hot in the shade" c.d.... hits for short... on it's release date april 1'st 1990, it was considered an april fool's video. because this was the first time that paul and gene put back on the make-up since they took it off in 1983. making the fans wish to see the 70's kiss again. 6 year's later the original band regrouped with make-up.
I love that you guys always react to different eras of kiss. They have so many great songs it’s really incredible.
The Makeup Era has all the Classics. But I really like the Songs from the Non-Makeup Era more.
Era; not area.
Non makeup era has lots of classics too like lick it up, all hells breaking loose, heavens on fire, thrills in the night, tears are falling, crazy crazy nights, forever, unholy, god gave rnr to you
Love all kiss lineup...but non make up is my favorite.
i have been a Kiss fan since 1977. definitely my favorite line up is the 73-79 lineup of the original four. thats the original makeup lineup
Its actually 1973 - 1980
2:22 David Lee Roth with guitar
I'm going to see them in Baltimore, MD, in November. I've seen them many times over the years. They're still the best live band, I've ever seen. Great job guys.
Need to try Mr Speed and Nowhere To Run by Kiss, by far two of there top 10 songs
I was wondering when this one would be! Love it.
Kiss was a dead issue by early 1983 in America. Their albums weren't selling, and the newer generation of rock fans looked at them like relics from the 70's and has beens. They had also lost 2 of their original members, though Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley (co founders and main vocalists and songwriters for the band) remained. So Gene & Paul did what they had to do, they took the makeup off. After that Kiss albums routinely started going PLATINUM again, and concert attendances dramatically improved. Kiss became a force in the rock world again. I should know, I watched it all go down as a fan. I love both eras, but Kiss had to take off the makeup by 1983 to survive. They would have died an ugly death if they had left it on. Taking off the makeup literally saved Kiss from extinction.
1000% right, and honestly they did the same thing putting it back on. Revenge tour ran out of gas fast so Gene want to update their sound, you got for me an amazing album in Carnival of souls. But reunion came first and the rest is history
Their best lineup ever!!
You got to understand when KISS came out in the late 1970's they were in makeup and no one knew what they looked like for years they hid their real identity behind the makeup and that was their stick , and KISS has been a marketing genius , cuz as you can see they also made it without makeup and of course these days they went back to the makeup and still touring to this day , just a little FYI
Keep up good work
Love you all's reactions 👍🏼💯
I have seen them 3 times..once w/o makeup and twice since they put it back on.
One thing remains true...they put on the best show for the fans I have EVER seen. The hardest working band...ever. That is what makes them the greatest.
You guys should react to "King Of The Mountain" and "Paralyzed"
What was cool about this video... is while they had embraced the makeup era... this was the first time that they had "publicly" put the make up on for a video. Really just foreshadowing for the reunion tours that were only a few years around the corner.
I grew up liking Kiss in the late 70's as a kid. Then when I started playing guitar it was in the early/mid 80's during the non-make up era. Saw them 4 times without the make up. And have gone to 2 shows since they put the makeup back on. Nothing beats the albums with the original 4 guys in the makeup years. But my favorite lineup was the lineup in this video. Paul Stanley was at his vocal peak from say 1988 to 1997 or so. I'm just a Kiss fan and like all of the lineups and eras.
I love both versions
E nós ❤
In an interview, they mentioned when they were experimenting with their makeup, they noticed their personalities changed into their stage persona.
I grew up on these guys in the 70's
Isso é maravilhoso!
I've seen them with and without makeup, and definitely prefer them with it, cause that's just classic KISS!!!
Definitely liked both however this line up was fantastic
While the make-up was the initial attraction, if they didn't have the songs and chops they never would have lasted this long. But, while the look is iconic, as a band they upped their game when the make-up came off. Check out a song like Hate or Heart of Chrome to hear how well these guys can play.
Non makeup era was the best
You're nuts
I always want to see Kiss in make-up. It's what makes them special. 7 feet tall, studs and leathers, bombs, pyro.....it all fits. It's almost like they're not even human when they're in the full get-up.....larger than life. That's the only way I want to see them. And make sure you go see them. It's not even optional. You'll remember it the rest of your life. If you don't, you'll always regret it.
Life long Kiss fan here I can honestly say I like make-up non make-up the same.
I've been a KISS fan since 1974 (age 7) and have followed them ever since.
My first time seeing them live was when my parents took me to see them in 1979, that made it even that much better.
I have seen them almost every US tour since totaling 36 times. I have seen a LOT of concerts, with other bands since then. I have never been to a bad KISS concert.
However, the makeup and theatrics made them stand out and be recognized and separated them from the others. I don't think that they would have even made it to KISS Alive if they hadn't had the makeup and costumes on.
While they are a great band and the music stands on its own, they needed something to help be them, and they nailed it.
KISS were actually signed to their first record deal by Neil Bogart on the strength of their demo tape. He had not seen them and did not know what they were doing with the makeup and costumes. When he did see them, he tried to talk them out of it, fearing that they would not be taken seriously. The band stuck to their vision and toured their asses off to build a following which, a few years later, exploded with the release of the KISS ALIVE album. One can't help but wonder if the makeup actually helped or hindered them early on. I actually lived this, because I initially rejected them due to their image. It was when I heard KISS ALIVE that I became a huge fan.
With makeup 💄 awesome cool song, did not see them without makeup 💄
Theo from the Cosby Show was at the video shoot for this
70s KISS with Ace and Peter was by rear the best for me. Not knowing who they really were, never seen as regular ppl and writing the best songs with groundbreaking shows. The were larger than life personas. Nobody had done this before. The magic was insane and you really needed to live it to understand. When the makeup came off it lost all the magic for me. Gene Simmons was so demonic. Ace was trippy. Peter was a cool cat and Paul was a star.
It’s all about the tunes with or without the makeup
For me, the makeup had a magic, but in my 20's(in the 80's) I loved the metal
Yay
Bruce Kulick is a great player on a molecular level.
Definitely 70's makeup. But Hot in the Shade was drummer Eric Carr's final recording with Kiss who sadly died on November 211, 1991 from cancer.
When you think of KISS, you think of mostly their make up era songs. But the non make up era had so many great hits that sadly never get played live for various reasons. I believe the best line up will always be with Bruce and Eric Carr. As great as Tommy and Eric Singer are and even though there would be no KISS without Peter or Ace, Bruce and Carr were just on another level.
Greatest American band of all time in my opinion.
For me definitely no make up, especially live, Paul was free to run the stage, Eric Carr was a huge upgrade as a drummer, Bruce is an amazing guitarist, no Ace but he was so good. Gene out of anyone took along time to get comfortable on stage without make up.
The unique thing about KISS is the costumes and make up. Ya, they can perform without it and be a decent band; however, much of their music just doesn't hold up. I've seen them 17 times, by the way.
The really unique thing about KISS though is the fact that they could potentially be the first band that could pass the band name, music and costumes to a new version of the band and no one would mind. I will be seeing them later this year; however, they are in their late sixties or seventies and don't have the same energy. I would like to see them sell the name to a new group of guys who could then put their own mark on the name and carry on with the great show. Not sure if anyone would agree but that is my take. Remember, you asked. LOL
I've seen them with and without make-up. Both are great, but there is something about going full on with make-up. Especially back in the 70's.
The makeup was a gimmick for that time. It got them through the door, so I say let it go. Back in the 70s I loved the mystique of it, but we all know they can play and sing so they no longer need it.
Do it. Go to a show. You will NOT regret it!!
First
The KISS classics are from the make up era, however, some of their best songs came from the non make up era. On an off topic, the whole thing with new members and make up is really quite simple. Eric Carr had his identity and Vinnie Vincent had his. They should have let Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer pick their own identity, not copy a former members persona. One more thing. Eric Carr, Eric Singer, Tommy Thayer and Bruce Kulick should be in the HOF. They were in the band longer and contributed more, because of their longevity.
This was seven, yes 7, years before the band reunion that lasted for 4 years. It never made any sense to me why they put the makeup on to begin with! The makeup had absolutely no effect on their playing or song quality.
lick it up and revenge were the only great kiss albums without make up ....give all hells breaking loose a listen
You should listen to Tommy thayer and Eric Singers solo (from 2010 Rock am Ring from the Channel DEDE4EVER) and please more KISS reactions please i love your reactions
With Makeup
Make up for sure
KISS much better with ERIC CARR AND BRUCE KULICK....
Agree
Kiss without makeup is an average band that looked like all other bands
Not if you saw them live, Paul was unleash, Eric Carr destroyed anything that Peter ever did
@@Noclaf555 I did see them live with and without makeup several times
Kiss went through this bon Jovi stage geez it really sucked. Maybe even worse than unmasked the elder and dynasty lps🤮
Dude, you talk way too loud! I'm trying to crank the song and you are killing it! lol
