Ecuador has filed an official complaint against Mexico at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) amid an ongoing diplomatic spat over former Ecuadorian vice president Jorge Glas. Quito says the Mexican embassy illegally granted political asylum to Glas. Meanwhile, the ICJ on Tuesday began hearing a separate case brought by Mexico, which accuses Quito of violating international laws by raiding its embassy earlier this month and arresting the former vice president. Glas had been staying at Mexico's diplomatic compound in Quito since December last year, claiming he was being politically persecuted. Whereas Ecuador's government said he was trying to escape arrest over corruption charges. The latest escalation comes after Mexico suspended its diplomatic relations with Ecuador.

Mexico is dangerous with pen and ink, it is recognized for solving and winning its problems in that way, countries like USA have lost against Mexico in court a couple of times.
Ironically international law required mexico to attempt diplomatic dialogue with Ecuador first before appealing to ICJ.... it just happens that Mexico ignored procedure and required a hearing despite knowing full well they did not meet minimum requirements by not even attempting dialogue with Ecuador.

Mexico without spending a single bullet currently has Ecuador in a diplomatic and political crisis.
Ecuador "waited so long" to bring the complain... because they were legally required to.
In an international agreement between Mexico and Ecuador (ie. "Bogota") international disputes are required to be attempted to be solved by the involved parties ditectly before going to seek external mediation by the ICJ.
Ecuador waited becuase they were complying with that requirement.
Mexico by contrast, knew they had not even made the attempt to qualify for foreign mediation (ICJ) and pushed the aplication for a hearing ANYWAYS - violating Bogota AND even failed to meet international court procedures.
Very ironic.
