I do not have an Ultra, but I have heard from many people that the biggest drain on the battery was the constant search for cellular signal. If you live in an area with more reliable coverage the battery lasts way way longer.
It wasn’t just the signal search but just being on LTE in general was a big battery drain. When I was out & about I had pretty good signal strength and it still drained. Of course, having your phone nearby with Bluetooth on would help drastically
I use my ultra as a standalone and easily get 1.5 days my area has good signal and I don’t send over 25 messages a day and normally take/make about 10 calls
@@TheTechMillennial I use my phone for about 2 hours at night to check emails and socials and do anything I can’t do on my watch!! The whole point for me was to get my screen time down on my phone!! If your iPhone is nearby with Bluetooth on, or you have wifi on then this will use those connections and turn off cellular automatically. You could also technically go into setting to turn it off manually as well 👍🏽
How are you sending iMessages without the iPhone, are you still having your iPhone connected to Wi-Fi at your house or is the cellular service doing its job
The charging time seems very odd. When I charge my Apple Watch Ultra in the morning while I‘m in the bathroom for 10 minutes, I got from 46% to 59% And why don‘t you use WiFi at home? Dealing with bad signal strength also kills the battery very fast.
Exactly what I was thinking lol. He’s not using the 20w charging brick or there’s something wrong with his power supply because I too experience very fast charging speeds. That completely depends on you & your needs. The Ultra is bulkier, heavier and slightly less comfortable than the non-Ultra models. @@TheTechMillennial When I’m out hiking or on my runs I don’t take my phone only my watch. Turning off the Wi-fi (and blue tooth if not bing used) significantly mitigates battery drain👍
That battery performance is fairly disappointing. The only caveat I guess for you was the poor signal pickup in your home which would no doubt use more battery as it would be constantly searching for reception.
This video will definitely help me in choosing the right watch, I feel like I should go with series 8 because tbh I don't need the features that Apple watch ultra offers (A larger battery would be nice tho). I usually don't like to wear a watch when sleeping. that's why I can charge it overnight and I think Series 8 will last a day when paired with an Iphone. Any suggestions from your side?
I actually agree with this 100%! If a bigger battery isn’t absolutely necessary for you (I also always charge my Watch at night) then I would recommend a Series 7 actually 👍🏽 I recently saw a refurbished stainless steel on Apple’s website for a great deal 👍🏽
I was on the fence. I bought the Ultra and I’m so glad I did. The extra battery is a game changer, the bigger screen is so nice and the action button is so useful should be in all the new watches. I’m a long time Apple fan boy and this is one of my best and probably my favorite Apple product in years.
Joseph you definitely are right - the Apple Watch Ultra is one of Apple’s best products in a few years :) It’s a no brainer if you’ll take advantage of the bigger screen, longer battery life and action button!
TBH this a big watch! It’s obviously the best hardware piece Apple has produced in recent years but getting a series 8 is more sensible because it feels like a everyday watch and is is good enough for everyday use. I’ll Definitely get the Apple Watch Ultra as a daily driver but as I have to use it at work so the regular Apple Watch feels sleek and good looking.
Appreciate the feedback! Any better suggestions for the title? I tried avoiding using the iPad but my watch and car both failed me in the exact moment I needed them both lol 😅
@@TheTechMillennial It was a great plot twist that made me keep watching to see what you'd do! Can the Apple Watch Ultra Be Your ONLY Device? Here’s What Happened. (Clearly hooked me with your current title but that's my best shot at removing clickbait:P)
Wow! You are truly a computer geek, I love it. I’m the total opposite of you, when I get home from work I get rid of all electronics minus my record player and hit the weights, listen to music and relax watching the sunset.
You turn on Water Lock before you get in any water (it locks the screen to avoid accidental touches) and once you get out it unlocks your screen (and uses noise to push out the water).
@@TheTechMillennial u are wrong. ultra watches locked themselfs automatically when it detects water lets say 1 feet deep, but it cant release itself after 1 minute on normal 0 deep ?
That is true when you submerge the watch underwater completely. But if you are just in the shower with water hitting it, it will not activate that feature.
I would say, give it three maybe four more years and the Apple Watch will be a standalone device where you won’t need the iPhone anymore. Right now the Apple Watch is just a convenient extension of your phone. It’s meant to be a complement to your phone I believe.
Well we thought that too when LTE was introduced in the Series 3 but 5 years later we haven't made a huge leap forward yet. I guess we'll see 5 years from now.
Apple wants the watch to be a companion to the iPhone, not a standalone device own it’s own. People just want to push the technology along too fast! Just enjoy what it does now because 20 years from now the iPhone will be implanted device in our bodies so we won’t need to physically carry the phone in the hands anymore like that Netflix show with everything was implanted inside the eyes
If I start my day at 7AM and have a 30 min work out, I end the day around 25-30% on my Ultra without any use of the phone. Your low signal in the house is probably part of the issue, also -- how long were those phone calls?
Can’t really leave your phone at home with regards to the Tesla as there isn’t a dedicated watch app from Tesla yet to unlock it and send commands. Hopefully soon
Yeah I know! That was the first problem I ran into, but I didn’t put it in the video. My Model S comes with a key fob though so I had to bring that along with me for the day!

@@TheTechMillennial When I’m out hiking or on my runs I don’t take my phone only my watch.
Turning off the Wi-fi (and blue tooth if not bing used) significantly mitigates battery drain👍
Is it possible to use the mobile network from a Android Smartphone on the ultra ?
Oh rad! Lew later did the same exact test...
Oh cool! On the Ultra?
That battery performance is fairly disappointing. The only caveat I guess for you was the poor signal pickup in your home which would no doubt use more battery as it would be constantly searching for reception.
Yeah the always on cellular connection definitely drained it. I wasn’t home all day and had overall decent reception when I was out and about
Perhaps the white bright facewatch is a drainer too? What will happen when you choice a darker one?
Other days that I've used wifi and bluetooth connected my battery lasts days! Even with a white background, always on display, etc 👍🏽
“Apple watch as my only device”. Also uses MacBook, ipad, and Tesla 🤣🤣🤔
I held off on using the iPad but the Watch really wanted to act up 👺
That's an insane amount of messages..
I counted sent & received. Including a group chat which was blowing up that day lol.
Never had problems with my Tesla maps. Might want to get that checked.
It happens randomly when it doesn’t want to connect to the internet I guess. Works 99% of the time though
Plz make more videos like this. This video is really amazing
Thank you sir! 😎
Can you receive calls from facebook messenger or make calls using facebook messenger using the apple watch ultra alone?
This video production is top tier and I’m only 0.48 secs in 😮💨😮💨😮💨
Thanks 😮💨🤌🏽
This video will definitely help me in choosing the right watch, I feel like I should go with series 8 because tbh I don't need the features that Apple watch ultra offers (A larger battery would be nice tho). I usually don't like to wear a watch when sleeping. that's why I can charge it overnight and I think Series 8 will last a day when paired with an Iphone. Any suggestions from your side?
Thanks for making the video, I appreciate your efforts!
Joseph you definitely are right - the Apple Watch Ultra is one of Apple’s best products in a few years :)
It’s a no brainer if you’ll take advantage of the bigger screen, longer battery life and action button!
How come you wear your watch in that orientation?
Looks better, AND prevents your wrist from accidentally pressing down on the digital crown 👍🏽
i like that you turn it the other way with the wheel on the left
It freaks everyone out for some reason haha but I like it on that side!
@@TheTechMillennial I set it the same way for my wife’s series 1 😅
Niceee. She probably has random people asking her why she’s wearing it “wrong” and she has no idea what they mean lol!
Isn’t it true that at home the watch connects automatically to wifi even without the iPhone?
Yes, that is correct! I had my wifi turned off (for this video) but it will work that way 👍🏽
Loved everything except for the title because of the iPad. Cool video regardless
Great video bro !
Thank you!
Wow! You are truly a computer geek, I love it. I’m the total opposite of you, when I get home from work I get rid of all electronics minus my record player and hit the weights, listen to music and relax watching the sunset.
why it cant release water after shower by itself ?
You turn on Water Lock before you get in any water (it locks the screen to avoid accidental touches) and once you get out it unlocks your screen (and uses noise to push out the water).
@@TheTechMillennial u are wrong. ultra watches locked themselfs automatically when it detects water lets say 1 feet deep, but it cant release itself after 1 minute on normal 0 deep ?
That is true when you submerge the watch underwater completely. But if you are just in the shower with water hitting it, it will not activate that feature.
2:03 man why's your watch upside-down?
“Can i use the Apple Watch ultra as my only device?”
*uses an iPad, Tesla maps and more*
I would say, give it three maybe four more years and the Apple Watch will be a standalone device where you won’t need the iPhone anymore.
Amazing review 👏🏽 very informative & entertaining.
Thank you Carl! 🙏🏽
Amazing how much battery lte takes
It really does take a lot. It’s great to use for short periods of time though!
OMG good luck recharging the battery every single moment!!
It’s not too bad
Can the apple watch ultra withstand the normal daily use in Saudi Arabia weather ?
If I start my day at 7AM and have a 30 min work out, I end the day around 25-30% on my Ultra without any use of the phone. Your low signal in the house is probably part of the issue, also -- how long were those phone calls?
I need one with a sim card slot. In UK. Second hand off eBay is fine. Around £100 used is a good price.
This is the most cocky daily routine ive ever seen, just to drive up in a tesla and access ATM with watch💀👏😂 dude probably feels like a king
I was considering the Palm Phone. But I might go with this better tbh.
👍🏽
Can’t really leave your phone at home with regards to the Tesla as there isn’t a dedicated watch app from Tesla yet to unlock it and send commands. Hopefully soon
Yeah I know! That was the first problem I ran into, but I didn’t put it in the video. My Model S comes with a key fob though so I had to bring that along with me for the day!
@@TheTechMillennial There are third-party apps that will do that. I use the "Remote" Tesla app and it will unlock/lock as well as start climate etc and show battery levels all from the watch. NIce vid!
Does it work like phone key (you just walk up to the car with your Watch and it unlocks) or do you have to open the app manually?
& thank you! 👍🏽
@@TheTechMillennial You have to open the app - but can have it on your main screen too. However, you can also open it farther away so you don't have to wait till you're next to the car to open.
Okay gotcha. Still useful!
In your Tesla vid, your car had the MCU 1 system and now it has the two, did you install it?
I actually did install MCU 2 in my previous Tesla :) however, this was the newer Model S with the updated screen
Did you upgrade to it?
Can you do a video on using apple watch SE for one day
I will consider it. I did previously do a similar video to this using a regular Series 5!
how to use xelluar and setup
Where did you get that Model 3 Instrument Cluster? lol
It’s a Model S!
@@TheTechMillennial I knew that but at some angles it looked like a modified Model 3…
Great video ! Glad you’re back (:
For that price ultra watch still ain’t worth it or could ever replace an iPhone, especially for someone who’s always on the run.. my Series 7 last more battery 🥴
You’re right! It almost costs as much as an iPhone 🤯
i disagree. ultra is perfectly priced for what it offers. the tougher and brighter display, battery life for that matter
I guess it really depends on your needs. I can definitely seem some people living with just the Watch. And others no
Title: Only Device
Him: iPad
👁️👄👁️
Great video ! 👏 very informative and amazing production!
Thank you! 🙏🏽
Great video. Just a random thought I had while watching 1:16. That honestly looks so depressing. It doesn't even look real. Looks like the houses are bad CGI
It’s a drone shot but I agree - the coloring came out very weird on that shot.
If you're using another device like an iPad or computer or tesla you aren't using the apple watch stand alone.
