Getting ready for my IELTS writing exam. Your channel is helping me a lot since everything in here is being discussed in its simplest form. Thank youuuu
I'm a ninth grade student in High school, and this was recently thrown on to us. I'd say about 75% of our class did not remember this from 2 years ago. This video was very informative and it actually helped a lot. Thank you!
You have the gift of making the 'complex 'seem 'simple' and that is a 'compound' technique you handle beautifully. Top-notch presentation. Good job! Keep'em coming...
It is crucial enough to realise about the types of sentences, as long as some of the students don't know about what you presented teacher. Thanks for your effort.
Hi Lisa, You are an excellent teacher who knows her subject very well. I have a question for you. As you gave example two in compound-complex sentence, you used "THAT" after "WE DECIDED", and "WE WERE WRONG" which is making me think of it as a dependant clause. Could you explain it please? Thank you!
Great stuff. Subordinators make the sentence complex. Compound complex includes both compound n a subordinating clause. 2+ 1 or more , or 1or more +2. Thank you. A phrase at the beg. leaves the sentence a Simple sentence. I get it now
Thanks for the class dude, it was really useful for me , i'd been studying for so long "types of sentences " and finally my doubts have been answered🎉😅
it is a kind of sentence made up of two independent clause joined by a conjunction? A. Simple B. Compound C. Complex D. Basic E. Noun. What is the answer?
Can we change Complex sentences into compound by changing sub-ordinator conjunction into co-ordinator conjunctions such as; When he came home, his mother hugged him ( Complex sentences) He came home and his mother hugged him. ( Compound sentence) I love English because it is interesting. ( Complex sentences) I love English and English is interesting. ( Compound sentence)
ma`am your teaching methode ,body language presentation and other like pronunciation skill are very good.you understand the student at very easy methode.thank you
Hi Lisa! This is a great video (really like your use of colours!!), but I'm struggling to fully understand why "I have it, but somehow I don't have it" is any different grammatically from "I have it, although somehow I don't have it". So, I also don't understand why one should get a comma and one shouldn't. The phrase "but somehow I don't have it" is just as incomplete as "although somehow I don't have it", so why is one dependent and one independent? Also, I was always taught in school to put a comma before words like "although" and "because", and I see people do that all the time. I looked up the definition of "because" in the online Collins dictionary and the first example sentence they use is: "He is called Mitch, because his name is Mitchell". I'm sure I'm missing something, but right now these rules are feeling somewhat arbitrary. If you could clear up my doubts I'd be really grateful!
Hi There, well I'm 3 years too late. I can't clear up all of this, but note that 'although' is a subordinating conjunction, so you can move that clause around with the conjunction traveling with it. Although somehow I don't have it, I have it. This is a grammatically correct sentence. But is a coordinating conjunction. It links two equal clauses. In compound sentences the clauses cannot be reversed because it changes the meaning between clauses. So you cannot have: But somehow I don't have it, I have it. (doesn't make sense). So, while semantically the precise meanings of the words are more or less the same, the way the conjunction is relating the two ideas is different. One show two equal but contrasting ideas (but). The other links one clause as a kind of condition: exception, to the other idea. I don't know if this helps at all. There were though, a couple of minor mistakes (or differing interpretations) in what is otherwise an excellent video.
Dear Prof, I was wondering if I might dare ask you a question? Is that correct: I love Mexican food, but my stomach dislikes it, so I usually take some medicinal ( it's a compound sentence with 3 main clauses and 3 coordinating conjunction). Thank you kindly, I pay my respects to you. andrea
Good explanations. However, I think that the fourth sentence in the slide on simple sentences (my brother and i like apples and oranges and we eat them everyday) is actually a compound sentence. There are two ideas - like apples and eat them everyday. The conjunction is "and"
Simple sentence..."Quality and not the quantity should be the measure of one's character"..it is the correct sentence...Here, "and not" is a conjunction joining the word "Quality" with the Noun clause " the quantity should....character". Yet it remains a independent clause
This is best presentation, straight on. IELTS training idiots of other videos .should learn something from this presenter, that they we are tired of damn faces than lectures.
1. Which of this is a complex sentence? a. Keeping her speech short, the Mayor promised to improve roadways and bridges because she wanted to appeal to as many of her voters as possible. b. Keeping her speech short, the Mayor promised to improve roadways and bridges; she tried to appeal to as many of her voters as possible. c. The Mayor promised to improve roadways and bridges; keeping her speech short, she tried to appeal to as many of her voters as possible
