@@acidpurewarrior no it doesn't so no it isn't, it's fully compatible! the Namco Reunion cabs use an 18 MHz Z180 vs the original Pac-Man hardware with a 3 MHz Z80. The Reunion cabs even use the same sound format (WSG). Not sure on graphics hardware differences.
@@TorutheRedFox right, and I know purists only want 100% original hardware but if the main gameplay loops is running natively that's close enough for me. My biggest gripe would be that they added continues! That's heresy! lol
The reason why the continue mode option is available is because the owner may need more money. Also, this option can be turned off by going to settings, hitting “General,” and then hitting “Continue” mode from 1 credit to “Disabled” mode.
It's all original/authentic programming/code from Namco put onto the PCB... call it what you want, it plays 100% original, and that's why it's so good (unlike the 60-1 crap).
When I first started to watch this video, I have never thought about having the original Pac-Man hiddin in this special arcade cabinet through the years it has been around. Now that I have understood the code and found a local machine and have to get the quarters to play that specific game and learn well to play this iconic classic even after Pac-Man made it through 40 years.
I allways get a bit excited when John puts up another video. John's contagious enthusiasm and clear explainations without repeating trivial or common sense issues forced me really into finally building a Mame arcade cabinet without any knowledge or experience what so ever. It turned out great. So many thanks for that, John.
I don't mind games having continues if it's implemented right. There's a few ways of doing it right: 1. Put a note beside the high score indicating how many continues were used to achieve it. 2. Limit the amount of continues to 1 (like with Punch-Out and Super Punch-Out) 3. Have unlimited continues, but reset the score to zero on each continue.
Hey John, I'm not sure if you know about this, but there's actually a weird bug in these cabinets. During the Galaga attract sequence, when the alien tractor beam grabs the player ship, you can press the fire button and actually kill it, at which point you'll be able to take control of the attract sequence and "play" it for a small amount of time before the game crashes and restarts.
Fun fact: You can actually crash the game on the Galaga demo. The first time he gets captured, you can fire and if you destroy it, you get control for the rest of the demo. And if you get captured again, the game crashes and goes back to the ms. pac man demo.
Pacman 20 years Reunion and 25th Anniversary cabinets are not emulation at all as they are based on the 8 bit original code (slightly modified to handle the selection menu and the various gamespeeds) running on a Zilog Z180 which is an 8 bit processor 100% backward compatible with the old Z80 (actually 3 of them in Galaga) simply able to run at a quicker speed if requested. The logic of the original boards is embedded into 2 FPGAs placed on the PCB (1 for Pacman and 1 for Galaga) and protected with heatsinks. The only Namco Pacman cabinet to use emulation so far is the most recent "Arcade Party" which uses a Playstation 2 hardware running an emulator allowing to play 12 Namco Classics (64 bits processor running 8 bits code, that definetely requires software emulation :=) )
Does this machine have a menu in which plays a melody? I’ve been searching for a combo machine that played a certain melody when the demo screens timed out. It was a Ms Pac-Man Combo machine like this. Machine was out around 2008-2009..
Why on Pac-Man does the second key not come out a lot? I noticed going over a million on one and two players it doesn't show the million and it would not give me second key a lot.

Nice video as always John. I play this at my local Dave and Buster's and it's great. My friend does this all the time because he likes fast speed but D and B where I live has it set for slow speed. Very cool to see him hit the buttons to a certain sequence to change the speed. I also play the combo cabinet for Nintendo featuring Mario Brothers, Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. Try to do a review of that if you have one close by. Would love to see that. They had one of those machines at the only arcade left in town. It was the only classic video game machine in the entire place, since the rest is either overpriced 90s racing games, and then of course ticket and claw machines. But then after a few months, the screen went green, they left it broken like that for months, then got rid of it. So now the arcade is a sad, sad place again.
I just bought one in Mint condition a few days ago, I love it. It's the real game, takes coins. I had travel 800 miles round-trip. Getting any of the classics are getting rare
I'm only having 1 arcade machine it is the midway arcade 1 up legacy edition it is 12 in 1 games the games are mortal Kombat 1, mortal Kombat 2, Ultimate mortal Kombat 3, toobin, rampage, joust, wizard of wor, gauntlet, root beer tapper, defender, bubbles, and finally paperboy for my retro video game bedroom.🌝🙂👍😊😀

That Galaga high score....that is WHY the lack of continue option is best.
On a Galaga machine with fast shots a high score table is pretty meaningless even without continues, in my opinion.
I'd think that high score was from the glitch where the aliens would not fire so the person could just play perfectly until level 256

Whats a good price for these?
John where is this arcade place in Orlando?
+Eric Richins Looked like part of a hotel to me. That cave like area he walked through looked interesting, wondered if that was really carved out of rock or just some fake decoration.
Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress. I'm staying here right now. They have moved the machine to the other side of the room since this video.
Just gonna have to correct you real quick: according to KLOV, it doesn't use JAMMA. It uses a unique connection.
There are literally no non working ones in my area. Also, someone posted a WTB ad the next day for it...
I just bought one in Mint condition a few days ago, I love it. It's the real game, takes coins. I had travel 800 miles round-trip. Getting any of the classics are getting rare

The also made a Pac Man 25th aniversary cabinet with MS pac Man, Pac Man, and Gallaga
I went to a movie theater and they had that machine

Sure cool
The code should have been up up down down left right left right
No way bro flew all the way over to Orlando for an ARCADE CABINET
John, you shouldn't have thrown the pacman game, you nearly had the high score there!. Yes, you really need to get a Galaga, I'd love to see you bring one of these back to life. Galaxians, Phoenix, and definitely a Galaxians hack called Swarm.
How much would this be worth in 2023 dollars?
Ocean city's Verison doesn't just play pac man ms pac man and galaga it plays donkey kong and donkey kong jr it still does play those games but it's awesome
