    Love Mangawhai. I used to spend a lot of time throwing sticks into the estuary for my dog. Back in the late 2000’s we had a little off the grid shack at the Longview subdivision on kakapo place. Was a bare paddock then. Sold it in 2015 as the paddock was then littered with houses. Lost its appeal for us but still an awesome place to have a hideaway surf shack off the beaten track. Walk to Frog and kiwi and the tavern for concerts. This vid brought back memories. Love your channel. Don’t think I’d ever get bored of ding repairs. Those oysters look epic! Yeow

      @smallkinedings yeah, it's pollution from farms and run-off from septic systems after rain . The Derwent and estuary has been poisonous from the Zinc Works in Hobart for years.
      We would have to travel a long way South to get to fresh shellfish or decent sized crays.
      I'll just have to settle for farmed Salmon at $34 a kilo, or Marinara mix for $15 a kilo from the local supermarket 🤔

    I do actually enjoy repeats for fixes. They are all different and always learning bits and pieces and new tricks to save time and improve end result.
    You made a video about the foams, it would be good something about the resins as well, laminated, finishing, waxed, marine, epoxies, curing times, temperatures in summer and winter, hardeners...
    Just got a new laminating poly that gels in 15 minutes and sanding it is horrible. Maybe next time I can get the right one with your tips.
    Great channel, it shows your passion about your craft. Thanks a lot for sharing with all of us, my kids got boards because of me learning how to repair them properly with your tips. 🎉

    • @smallkinedings
      @smallkinedings  Месяц назад +2

      Will definitely keep pumping them out, you're right, they are all different even if they're the same (boxes for instance) and there is plenty that I haven't put in older videos just in the interest of time!
      I do have a video called ''poly resin for beginners'' I think it's called. I have a similar titled one for Epoxy too but some of those older videos I want to redo merely because the sound and video quality wasn't as good back then.
      BUT, I can solve your resin problem right meow! 😸
      So, there are two types of poly resin.
      1. Sanding resin. 2. Laminating resin.
      Both are the same, the only different ingredient is waxed styrene or wax additive.
      As long as there is air touching poly resin, it will remain sticky, even after curing. This makes it terrible for sanding BUT it means you can add more cloth or resin onto it even after it's cured because of that stickiness.
      If you want to sand it after pouring though, then you need to use a sanding resin. This can be bought pre mixed or you can just buy yourself some waxed styrene and add it to your laminating resin at 2%.
      The wax in the styrene floats to the surface of your resin once applied and creates a barrier between your resin and the air. This will make it easily sand-able.
      Laminating resin for laminating or coats that you want to add more resin layers on top of after curing.
      Sanding resin for final coats or fills that require sanding after curing.
      I will definitely do a video on this for you in the coming weeks!

    Well I get your point, eventually things get repeated because the works are similar.
    However this is some ideas I might have, I dont know if they all apply to your channel:
    - Pro tips on mixing resins
    - Pro tips on new chemichals that we may use
    - Pro tips on cleaning material (shape rooms, brushes and so on), and maybe strategies which minimize cleaning?
    - Pro tips on equipment - masks filters, machines - maybe you can even get partnerships there
    Then:
    - Full lenght videos on board restoration
    - Full lenght videos on shaping surfboards
    - Video on shaping /surfboard theory - why have such rails, why have such concaves, why have sunch rocker
    - Video on coloring - resin tints, spray, squeege, strategies and methods

      It's actually super shallow. The boat channel between the rock and the peak is 6 to 10 meters deep but then it drops to maybe 2-3 meters where the wave breaks. It only really works on low tide too. We sadly had a local late last year hit the bottom and break his back. He's on the long road to recovery but there was a period where his only movement was his eyes. He's got years to go in recovery but compared to what could've been, he's a very lucky man!

    I agree with @robertical - (it's like any construction job) while some principles remain the same, every circumstance is slightly different than the next and there is always something to be learned and applied to future projects. As far as I'm concerned - whatever you'll be putting down, I'll be picking up.
    I will add... I would really enjoy some "start to finish"-type shaping videos from you, if that is of any interest to you. I've watched hundreds of hours of shaping videos here on RUclips, but I haven't seen any that really go in depth with the craftsmanship, thought process, nor the problems or realizations, that occur during shaping. They're all kind of generically "well I plane each side of the board to get my thickness, I foil the board, add concave, mark rail bands, shape rail bands, screen board, laminate board, and now I'm done". Maybe it's too much for a RUclips video to really dissect the craftsmanship that is part of the creation of a board, but you're a thorough and creative type, so I think you could easily find the best angles and shaping scenarios to benefit the many of us who are here to stay regardless of what you put out. Worst case scenario is... us amateurs get better, or we make mistakes and then run back to your repair videos haha Sounds like a potential win-win.
    Anyway, I really do enjoy and appreciate this channel you've created and look forward to the future vids. Cheers, mate!

    • @smallkinedings
      @smallkinedings  Месяц назад +1

      For sure, will certainly repeat a few video types. The older videos with rubbish video quality and audio need to be remade any way but theres also plenty of information I never put into them because the videos would've been too long!
      Shaping is something I've avoided as I'm really not an authority on the subject. I have limited boards shaped under my belt and I'm still learning myself with every one I do. I could do a video on my method so far but it would have to come with the warning that ''I don't know what I'm doing'' 😂 I too have noticed the same lack in quality coverage on shaping. It gives me the impression that many of the people making these videos are in the same position as me and don't really know what they're up to either, which is fine as long as they say that before they start!

    Btw if you are thinking about purchasing a new cmera gear, honestly, as a professional photographer, I won't probably bother and just buy some of the latest iPhones (if you do not have one already). their vid capabilities are pretty good for your use and if you would like to improve the sound quality a bit, you can always use some sort of external mic.. maybe it sounds ridicolous, but that is how it is.. the ration of price and performance if pretty good and if you would like to use a professional camera gear, you would spend much more money on it then on an iPhone..

    From a RUclips perspective I'd recommend to keep doing what you are doing now. Your most recent succesful video was the restoration / vintage debate. Try doing one similar format video on a different topic and do one restoration/repair video, if you wanna keep it at 2 videos a month. From 10k subs onwards the algorithm will reward you with another glowup. I can definitely understand the grind is hard, but keep going. It might still be to early to experiment with 'different' media as your audience and subscriber count it still kind of low.
    As you have reached your own personal goal of creating a information platform, I'd recommend looking into what your current viewers want. So its a good decision to post this video.
    I think your ideas to do/discuss on your livestream are good. But perhaps still use the video format. If you find that you struggle with time spent on creating a video, perhaps even consider doing course of easier a Google or RUclips search on video editing or video creation pipelines. Might help you streamline your process and save time.
    Finally, ding repair edits are also leaning towards asmr or 'fixing satisfaction'. So repetiviness isn't bad perse from the audience its perspective.

    It doesn't matter if it's the same thing every time, that's actually a benefit. People watch channels because they offer a specific subject matter with a well rehearsed and familiar structure. Some of the biggest channels basically just make the same video over and over. In particular "process" type videos like repairs, dog grooming, fishing lure making etc are basically just asmr. If you're just going to do random stuff your appeal will quickly become diluted and the algorithm will punish you for it.

    • @smallkinedings
      @smallkinedings  Месяц назад

      A fine line between attracting new viewers and still serving the old ones as they improve, learn more and progress in their own skills.
      I think the way I see it is a mix between two subjects and topics. First one, What I've been doing so far which falls under "how to" or "education" with the live stream helping that by answering questions, going over photos and footage of subscribers projects and other yourube videos/questions from platforms like Facebook.
      Second one, more entertaining/easy watching and story telling combined with surf footage to fall into the "entertainment" category which will be the secret idea I've got. The live stream can also support this aspect as well. So the live stream becomes the link between the two categories.
      That's what I'm foreseeing anyway. No change to the original mission, just an evolution so not every video is a class room or a lecture
