- I Finally went in for lasik surgery here in Taiwan. Although I was a bit nervous I must say that everything has turned out pretty well. I had the procedure done with 大學眼科 over near NTU and wanted to make this video for expats curious about getting lasik in Taiwan. Feel free to leave a question or comment below if are curious about my experience and good luck here in Taiwan 加油!

It seems that you have a great sense of editing video, your vlogs are really nice and chill, also your perspective are clear and real, but as a Taiwanese I am so shame to say that, some Taiwanese just like to see brown-noser or someone yelling like “I love Taiwan”, and most of these people doesn’t care about quality of a video. Feeling so sucks for your videos views are so low, but I know that, you are not for these kinda things to make video, cause you looks satisfying of your life, so thanks so much for keep making great video.
Thanks so much! Your comment is very kind, I think videos editing although tedious is quite a fun hobby and learning how to get better at making videos is all part of the fun. I hope every video will be a little bit better than the one before, although if I want more views I think I have to post more consistently.. so busy these days! However I am looking forward to more adventures soon though~ Thanks again!
Can we use you for the friend recommendation discount?
Glad it went well for you! 😁
Thanks! 😊
The price you are referring to, is in NT $, right?
Yes that is right, everything is in NTD. The total price in USD hovered just south of $2,000.
Hi, I just found your channel, and this video is very informative for me, who happens to want to find information about LASIK in Taiwan. Thanks! 🙂
Thanks so much!
My wife is Taiwanese and I regularly go back to Taiwan. How much was the cost to get it done in Taiwan vs what your were quoted in USA?
Well it has been a while (and every clinic may be slightly different) however I remember it being dramatically more expensive almost even twice as much~
Good video, thanks
Hello! Could you share what was your prescription and do you have any dry eyes condition before lasik! thanks!
I didn't really have any serious problems with dry eyes, nothing the occasional eye drops couldn't handle anyways. My prescription wasn't too bad either around R (-1.5) L (-1.75) if I can remember, biggest issue was astigmatism.
Which type of Lasik was it - Contura/Smile/...?
Although they offer SMILE it was double the price, so I just went with LASIK.
Location pls
Very helpful and informative. Thankyou.
Thanks!
What made you choose LASIK over SMILE? Was it a cost issue or something else?
I remember it was the price, ultimately after consulting with the doctor decided the price jump wasn’t worth it for me. It’s been probably a year or two now and everything is still going well!
@@Travelingjoe cheers. From what I gather, SMILE is better if you have dry eyes, is less invasive, and has a faster recovery. I’m going to go for a consultation at the same clinic you used. Thanks for the info and video. You have a nice channel.
After LASIK, can i get blurry eyes again or am i immune to it now
Maybe better to ask the eye doctor that one. Everyone’s eyes are different, however it has been great so far for me!
Thanks

Hi,
Thank you very much on your sharing in your experience for the LASIK surgery in Taiwan. I am from Taiwan but living in Australia. Have been also thinking to do LASIK surgery. Just a quick question, do you need to get a consultation and checkup prior to book for the surgery? By the sound of it, I would need to prepare to stay for a month after the surgery, would that be right?
Hey there! Yes I did get a consultation to see if I was a good candidate. As far as staying one month I don’t really know if it’s absolutely necessary. I did once a week check ups and received some eye drops every time. However the most important checkup is initial one I would say. Although staying for a month sounds more interesting, make a vacation out of it haha
Love your videos and insights. My only 'complaint" is.....I wish you'd put videos out weekly. =}
Thank you for your comment! I am excited to start the travel adventures once again and plan on continuing with the weekly videos this summer as well ~
@@Travelingjoe you have such a natural and easy going demeanor; feels like I’m listening to a friend sharing his adventures. I just saw a few videos of your Taiwan walkabout. Will you have more episodes of that? How did it conclude?
@@muubie I was able to walk all the way to Taiwan's southern most point! However around that time all of the convenient stores closed down in light of the pandemic which made it inconvenient to continue walking sadly..
I actually plan on continuing from Kenting and traveling up the east coast next year! I will start releasing the rest of the Kenting walk videos soon as well. I was able to film a lot of fun and cool things especially when I make it to Taichung, I just need to make more time to edit them.. luckily I will have lots of more time this summer for editing!
@@Travelingjoe how far up will you walk from Kenting? I mapped it to Taitung and that’s about 75 miles? To Hualien is about 175!! That’s quite a challenge. I haven’t seen all your videos yet but I’ll try to watch them all in the next week or so. Thanks for taking us along with you.🙏
It will probably take a while! It took me almost thirty days to walk from Taipei to Kenting and im guessing it will be the same from Kenting back to Longshan Temple (龍山寺 ) which is where I started. Hoping to make a giant circle 😆
Thanks for your video. I wonder if it is possible (or practical) for a foreigner to travel to Taiwan for Lasik surgery? Would there be much difference in cost from what you quoted (being a visitor)? Thank you!
The price would be the same no matter resident or visitor, you could likely find an even more competitive price than I did. I think it could make sense because it’s about half the price of surgery back in USA, half vacation half eye clinic trip sounds nice ~
@@Travelingjoe Thank you for your reply. I presume one must plan for at least a 3-4 weeks stay for post surgery care and monitoring, right?
I had to do a check up once a week for four weeks, however I am not sure it is necessary beyond the first week. After the first checkup or so, they just give you eye drops. So I think it wouldn’t be a stretch if you wanted to cut down and maybe do a week or so~
@@Travelingjoe Thanks. Do you need to book far ahead for the first appointment? Can you just walk in? And how long do you have to wait to do the actual operation?
@@ytubby2008 You can call ahead or just walk in to schedule a consultation. At consultation they will tell you if yo are suitable for the procedure and then schedule the procedure for a week or two afterwards. It is really really quick, the procedure itself only takes about 5 minutes or so.
~65K NTD with NHI?
Sadly LASIK isn’t covered under national health insurance
@@Travelingjoe Thanks for info.
恭喜你獲得新眼睛! 🤪👍🤪
謝謝~!
有健保給付嗎?
沒有喔,近視雷射是自費的。
貴貴的
沒錯!
@@Xi_Jinping641 是不便宜。
Hello, can i know its exact location in taipei? I am interesed to this for a very long time but I don't know where.. Thank you
Sure! It is actually pretty close to NTU and walkable from Gongguan metro station. I suggest you just go on google maps and type in 大學眼科, they have multiple branches but the one I went to is on South Xinsheng road.
@@Travelingjoe Universal eye center in english ma?
Yep!
Hi! Thank you for the video! Was your procedure Lasik or Smile? Current (2022) cost in CA for Lasik is around $5500, Smile $6500!!!
They did not prescribe you sleeping pills afterwards?
Say, if one only can manage to do 1-2 follow up visits, do you think it’s ok?
Thank you in advance!
@@dragonfly686868 I went with Lasik! I also found that it was about half the price as it is back in the US, which is the main reason I wanted to take care of it in Taiwan.
They didn't do any sleeping pills for me and I went in for follow ups like once a week for three weeks, which I thought was just fine. I think you would be able to tell pretty quickly if there was an issue, the follow ups you get some medicine eye drops but thats about it~
