    1. Deflect and block incoming strikes.
    2. Protect your chin / head (most important).

    Bro, to me, this is your best wing chun application video to date. I really like it. U applied the wing chun principles extremely well here in a live scenario. U actually use the bong wu guard to intercept, close in and control his centre, structure and balance in sticking range, constantly giving him forward pressure, giving him no space to breathe n manoeuvre. He has absolutely no answer to your sticking game.
    Intercepting and closing in is one of the most difficult skills to be good at in wing chun. Many discard it in favour of distance boxing. But u did the interceptions very well with the bong wu entry, and your hands change flexibly according to the situation and the pressure he gives u.
    One last thing I like to add is, for me during the clinching, its not only about controlling or pushing. This is the time when the wing chun inch strikes or inch power comes into full effect. Thats why I always say this is the place where wing chun is at its most devastating. U can control and u can hit. During the clinching. I see you have tons of opportunities to finish him off with multiple inch strikes, but u choose to put your hands on his neck n face just for control. I m sure u r aware of this and probably for safety u didn't execute those short strikes.
    All in all... superb job bro. 💯👍👏

    I don't understand keyboard commandos who are criticizing this saying "you don't know what you're doing" "this isn't how people fight" etc. etc. Everyone's wing chun is different just like how everyone's martial art is different. I think this video did a good job explaining how it can be used, it's not saying that this guard is impenetrable or the best guard, it's just showing how one person can use this type of guard. A big problem with traditional martial arts is that the people training in them won't pressure test them and that's exactly what Hoi Wa is doing and it's working for him just like how it CAN work for others

    Dude! Nice video of using bong sau in sparring. It makes a lot of sense to me as Wing Chun Practitioner. I use my wing chun in sparring and I apply it with the concept in mind. I like using many wing chun tools in sparring. I used kwan sau in sparring to deflect a cross punch but I make the kwon sau high and tight and using turning. Nice video again.

    Excellent!!!! I don't have a training partner so I wonder how will it play out if you use the clinch range to shoot wing Chuns well known trapping range short chain punches..... you know how to punch and trap in that range, and he doesn't, so try that next time and punch in clinch

    Hmm, this is how I imagine to work once I study the concepts as someone that has experience in MMA. May I ask though, in the middle of sticking and making the opponent go off balance, could you possibly use a lot the WC short range hitting techniques? I feel like as you stick and uproot a really good WC guy can also pepper the opponent with those "short jin" strikes.

    • @DynastyMMA
      @DynastyMMA  3 года назад +1

      Short range strikes work much better without gloves. With gloves and under MMA rules it’s a lot better to control your opponent with hand traps and clinch strikes and not to overcommit into getting taken down. If it’s just boxing rules then you can pepper quarter or half power shots like slap boxing style and wear down your opponent with pure volume and pressure.

    I do appreciate what you are doing but you can simply not quote wong shun leung in one video and then discard his visions on bong sao in another.
    Some info on Bong:
    Bong reffers tot the upper arm bone, its original meaning wasnt wing. Bong sao is mostly used when you are obstucted on the centreline and you feel pressure towards yourself. Keeping your arm in the same angle probably something like 140degrees, focuss your force into your elbow and use this to push his arm off your centreline. Shift if needed. Now you have the angle on him for a very short time and use it to punch. Once your punch has made a path relax your bong as soon as possible. note never retract your bong before shifting your wrist should be lower than your elbow and further away than your elbow. You do this to stay your ground. Also dont only move your bong up or foreward but do both, just dont turn before contact is made. With bong you want to turn the opponent in relation to you, not just yourself. Also don't lift your shoulder this makes your bong weak and can lead to injuries.
    Some tips speciffically for you:
    Bong is not a guard. In chum kiu you have a cross guard type shape but it is to train your elbows and shifting not a guard. Don't put your bong up before contact is made like movie ip man does. This is a very week structure, which can be jat sao-ed very easily also it exposes your body and can leave openings for kicks and takedowns. Also you seem to not use the blind side very often. There are many centre lines not just one. the centerline is like sticking a pole through your head and ass to the floor, same as on your opponent. the line between those two centerlines is "the"center line you want to dominate. When someone uses a bladed stance using techniques to go to the blind side is preffered since you have more time to react to his other arm since it's further away. Hooks have their own centreline as wel. The force doesnt come straight in so you want to face that force instead of staying in front. Something to really focuss on is to keep the pressure on your opponent with lan sau to keep a superior angle after being in clinch range, and then hit with your other arm. If you dont keep the pressure you will be able to get knocked out with a backfist. Also your hands should never fly out to grap, punching is your objective. If it fails you might grap but never commit two hands on one unless one arm is too far away to hit you.

    I am not criticising. My point though is that the boxer doesn't box like that. Ask a boxer to spar with softly. It will make your technical point clearer. Just a basic observation: anyone including boxer would go through the target (distance wise) . Here we see boxer throwing punches in the air and not making any true contact. Good luck!

      Hi, sorry about that, as per the video, we asked our training partner to try his best to punch us. When good Wing Chun is applied, we suppose it's very hard for the Boxer to look good and look like they're doing any effective punching? Similarly, if we see a good boxer demolish a Wing Chun guy, then people will say the Wing Chun guy was never any good? Unfortunately, that seems to be how the internet functions. We tried our best this time, maybe we can try harder next time! Thank you.

    What a load of bullshit. Try pulling off this technique with someone who actually throws hard punches, you might just get your wrists injured.

    • @jadenng7569
      @jadenng7569 7 месяцев назад +1

      Did you watch the video? You're not trying to let them punch your wrists, you're using your elbows and wrists to limit the peripheral space around your head. You are checking them with your hand so that their vision is compromised similar to a long guard in boxing. And secondly, bong sao is using the forearm/elbow, not the wrist. Try again.
