Wow, I'm still in the process of listening to this episode right now, but it really struck a nerve with me when she said about playing the "top the dog" when the other person comes home - I don't currently live with a romantic partner, but I do have a roommate and I just realized I always tend to do that - I know what time they'll be coming from work and I usually then wait around a few minutes beforehand to greet them when they come in and ask how their day was - but there is also a flipside to that in that the "person coming home" also needs to be excited to see you in return. I so often get an offhand "Hi" and get ignored further once they walk in the door, and that feels really sucky, to the point where I'm contemplating getting my own place and moving out - so I would imagine in a romantic relationship that would be even more important, for the "comer-homer" to also put effort into being excited to come home and see the person they're living with, in return
I really needed this episode today.
