@@DIYDad1 ran it today for the first time and I'm really liking this machine! I'm guessing it has some type of autofeed for the string, because I ran it about about 30 minutes and only had to bump the head once or twice. I absolutely do need to put a strap on this thing though.
@@bullfrogpondshop3179 nope no auto feed head unless that's a totally new feature but if you've never ran anything thicker than 0.065 or 0.080 line you'd think the thicker 0.095 this thing comes pre spoiled with will last forever 😂 and it definitely feels like that when you're going at it half throttle or less. Yeah those are totally bomb proof for sure! So much more power than I need on this tiny property lol but if I ever move out to the country and get some land I’m definitely upgrading. Thanks for watching!
The orange knob on the side is to loosen the cover on the air filter so you can gain access to the filter when it needs to be cleaned or replaced as part of regular maintenance service. The white cap if I’m looking at what I think you’re talking about, it’s protruding from the fuel tank, it’s a breather line for the tank and the cap I believe is like a one way valve so the fuel tank doesn’t become negative pressure and will prevent the flow of fuel to the carb.

Is the Darwin switch a reference to the interlock that locks the trigger from actuating unless the opposite side button is pushed to release the trigger?
Oh are you talking about that little orange knob on the left side of the engine? That’s just a screw knob that holds the cover in place for the air filter. You unscrew that knob and the black plastic cover comes off so you can replace the air filter. Is that what you were referring to?
Lol you know someone in the comments is going to bust me for not measuring properly this is the internet after all 🤣. Thanks for watching and commenting!
tiny tom most modern 2 cycle engines require a 50:1 or 40:1 gas-to-oil mixture. So you can either mix it yourself or buy the pre mix that’s stabilized and ready to go for you with no fuss. I buy echo red armor oil from Home Depot, they sell it in a 2.6 ounce container which is enough to make 1 gallon of mix, or a larger container with a measure that can do 10 gallons per bottle. Any hardware store or big box home improvement store should have pre mix as well. They usually sell it by the liter I believe. It’s a little more expensive but if you aren’t running a landscaping business then it should last a little longer then. If you want ethanol free gas to mix it up yourself check this website out. www.pure-gas.org/
Ryan Champion lol Good question, I can hardly believe it either considering it’s a ryobi! I’m guessing A: religious maintenance for its entire life, B: very light and careful use. It had a hard time running for a while until I did a full fuel system overhaul a few years ago, replaced all the lines, fuel filter, spark plug, etc. ran great for a while! That’s key just staying up on maintenance and taking good care of your equipment, keeping it clean and free of debris. I’m hoping this one lasts just as long since it’s not beat up. In a commercial use scenario. Thanks for watching and commenting!
It's best not to use regular gas, because of ethanol. Ethanol will destroy the carborator if you leave it in the trimmer. I use power care no ethanol gasoline from home Depot
ALBERT KAZEMIAN the stuff I use here is actually ethanol free premium. I go out of my way to find a gas station that has ethanol free specifically for my lawn equipment. Much better results and I never have issues after long term winter storage. You are absolutely right about ethanol. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Also be sure to check out Dan's Vlog here on YT he sort of does the same thing with his lawn care side business, he has a lot of cool content and man did he grow fast over the last couple years. I have a ton of content planned for this summer already, and a big lawn renovation coming later on with an overseed and aeration!
The only issue I have noticed is that with the straight shaft, is that it is harder to be precise and you chop up places you don't want to. The curved shaft is much easier to control. I love the sound of those bagger duals.
My new toy :D huge upgrade from my ryobi. Believe it or not, that old ryobi was my first "major" lawn purchase when I was 14 doing side lawns in high school! Its held up well over the years but I didnt know any better how much I hated curved shafts, and the bump feed head has always been terrible from the start. It's like upgrading to a luxury car lol.
Bought one yesterday from Home Depot. This weedeater has plenty of power. I have used commercial Stihl weedeaters and I am telling you this echo is not far off from being comparable to a commercial unit for power. You can’t beat the price for the power and ease of use. I have seen some negative comments and I just don’t believe these people know what they’re doing operating these powe tools. Ridiculous nonsense these people post. I would recommend buying this echo if you’re looking for a powerful unit at a great price that isn’t $300 - $500 dollars
I've used mine to clear brush on my sister's farm, really thick stocky weeds, it barely bogs down even in the thickest stuff! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I thought I mentioned it was 50:1? Either way, I showed using the pre-measured 2.6 ounce bottle of oil that came with the trimmer in the package. It says right on the bottle mix with 1 gallon of gas and shake. I did just recently do a follow up video on how to re-string the line since it came pre-loaded with echo crossfire 095. ruclips.net/video/AiRijqtZets/видео.html. Thanks for commenting!
I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.
No I really didn’t rev it until I put about half a tank through it lol didn’t want to gun it til it was broken in a little bit. Maybe I’m paranoid but I want it to last a while 😆. This thing RIPS though.
I’m on my third year now with this trimmer. I put the old gas in from last year, probably last august since I filled the gas can, and poured it into the tank. Fired up after TWO pulls from sitting all winter! Still in the original spark plug and air filter too.
@@DIYDad1 I have a 2009 GT-200R with all original parts, yes you heard that right, ORIGINAL. Echo is just like Cub Cadet and John Deere, they last forever.
@@DIYDad1 On colder days it has some trouble starting but overall it is a great weedwacker! I love the look and sound of the Straight shafted weedwackers Echo offers. The Straight shafted version of mine is the SRM-210. Actually the older trimmers sound different than the new ones! The old ones sound like they growl a little more, and the new ones sound like bees. Dont know why that is, but I can tell the difference.
I got mine and wasn't really impressed,. Extremely EXTREMELY picky on fuel ,. The stock muffler is terrible and the ECHO string is also completely useless it burns up very very fast. I'd recommend a still fs90 over this all day or at least something commercial
Thanks for sharing your feedback! Interesting that you had these observations. I agree with you that stock string that it came with the Echo crossfire .095 definitely gets used up very fast. I switched to the Rhino Tough 095 from Home Depot this season and that stuff works wonderfully and it's a lot cheaper! Might be trying the Husqvarna string too at some point I've heard that stuff is tough as nails. But I'm surprised to hear you had issues with fuel. TBH, I just fired my Echo up for the first time this week after sitting in the garage since November, and I used the SAME fuel that I had left over from last year, just typical pump fuel from the gas station and it fired right up after 2 pulls! I was really impressed because I never like to use fuel that old lol. Yours might need a carb adjustment or something, thats very strange. I've even mixed 40:1, 50:1, doesn't seem to matter much, although I do like to run it a bit more on the rich side than what they call for in the manual.
Gustavo Macall yeah it’s definitely easier and you know you are getting quality gas mix then. It just gets expensive though if you use a lot of it that’s why I don’t buy it. But if you have a small yard I think it can be beneficial since it stores for so long.
Gustavo Macall what size lawn are we talking? If it’s something like a really narrow side strip along the road or similar then you could get away with a trimmer only. But keep in mind it doesn’t leave as clean of a cut as a mower, and it can be difficult to control the cut height causing gouging if you aren’t careful. So just the quality of cut if you have an area larger than say 5 feet wide I’d definitely just get a smaller mower. If it’s only a few hundred square feet you could probably get away with a manual push reel mower for 99% of the yard, and then use a string trimmer for just the edging and along the house. Check out some of my more recent videos in the lawncare playlist where I’m cutting my lawn with a push reel mower. Works great as long as you maintain the height of cut you want and mow at least once a week. The shorter you go the harder it is to push so that’s the only downside. Thanks for watching, hope that helps and let me know if you have any questions!
Gustavo Macall this is just a cheap reel mower I got on Craigslist for $20 and it did the job! You could pair something like this with an inexpensive ryobi 40v trimmer for not a lot of money. ruclips.net/video/Jd562ccJkYc/видео.html
@@DIYDad1 thanks for the great info , my friend talked me out of getting a manual push mower , I'll definitely check out your other videos but it seems I'll be taking your advice and go with a small lawn mower since I do want a good even cut . Thanks again.
The head is not supposed to spin when it’s at idle. When I started it up for the first time I gave it very feather light throttle at first until it warmed up, just trying to be gentle for the first tank before going full throttle until everything is broken in. But if you give it more throttle than I was initially it works totally fine.
I’m sorry to hear that, did you have a bad experience with one? I’m curious now! I just fired mine up for the first time this spring after sitting in the garage for 6 months and it fired right up and ran great. I wonder if you got a bad one or echo QC is slipping lately.
T BIRD MAN interesting. I haven’t experienced that problem myself but come to think of it I remember hearing that from others before. There has been several revisions of this model over the years, I think the older model srm225 has these issues but echo has since replaced the fuel line weight. I know mine stalls when it gets pretty low but that’s only if it’s less than maybe 1/10th of a tank and that’s only if I’m holding it upside down using it as an edger. But that’s good feedback hopefully echo listens to their customers!
@@DIYDad1 I bought mine at home Depot. Tech there couldn't find anything wrong with it. Since I was still under 30 days I returned it. Got another one same problem. I sent in to echo payed shipping and they said there was nothing wrong with it. They keep telling it's fuel problem. I started using trufuel. But still stalls. I have to have more than half of tank. Or else it will stall. My brother also bought one with same problem.
T BIRD MAN wow that’s unfortunate. If it’s a common problem you would think echo would do something about it. I’m glad I haven’t had that happen to mine I really like the weight and size of this thing and haven’t had any issues with it since I bought it. It’s been almost a year now since I got it. I’ll have to check some of the outdoor power equipment forums and poke around a bit and see if others are reporting the same issue and see how widespread it is. Hopefully their entire lineup isn’t plagued with those issues! I know a lot of pro landscape guys that love their echo trimmers. They are usually running the bigger ones though. This is definitely a “consumer level” model from them. If you still have it yet my only suggestion would be to maybe add a weight to the end of the fuel line and see if that helps. My guess is that the line is floating to the top of the tank so it’s sucking air instead of fuel. Good luck!
Had one for 10 years ... this trimmer is great , starts EVERYTIME. I have never had it in for service. It just runs ! ... Buy one !

When you got a new replacement Srm 225 from Home Depot , did that trimmer have any fuel leaks? I have heard of a few customers with similar issues or either oil leaking from the exhaust port of the srm 225.
@@Slim1423 Echo is junk now… Leaky exhaust, flywheel & coil issues. (lifetime warranty on the coil) but it’d need to be sent in & be repaired under warranty. I’d buy a used shindaiwa pre 2007 T-231 T-261 or T-270 series before Echo ruined them… If the trimmer has X after the model number on the older Shindaiwa’s it’s the brush blade capable version. Maruyama is the best new trimmer currently available & it’s Made In Japan. 5 year commercial warranty…
Is there a break-in period for brand new units? Or just fire it up and let 'er rip?
Couldn't find anything in the manual
Not really, fill it up, make sure to use the proper gas:oil mix ratio, I'd let it idle a bit and warm up first before revving it up fully, once its warmed up have at it!
Glad you liked it, they do get heavy after an extended use. Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching and commenting!
It’s solid. I’d go for a 2320T if going for longevity.
Yeah those are totally bomb proof for sure! So much more power than I need on this tiny property lol but if I ever move out to the country and get some land I’m definitely upgrading. Thanks for watching!
The 2320T is the 225 with a chrome lined cylinder a high torque head etc. still 21cc
What is the orange knob on the side for? Also what is the line with a white cap on it that is located next to the primer button?
The orange knob on the side is to loosen the cover on the air filter so you can gain access to the filter when it needs to be cleaned or replaced as part of regular maintenance service. The white cap if I’m looking at what I think you’re talking about, it’s protruding from the fuel tank, it’s a breather line for the tank and the cap I believe is like a one way valve so the fuel tank doesn’t become negative pressure and will prevent the flow of fuel to the carb.
@@DIYDad1 Thank you. My 13 year old Echo doesn't have this.
@@dessieposton4187 yeah they seem to have changed the design a bit over the years. They don’t have the grease port on the head anymore either. Is the Darwin switch a reference to the interlock that locks the trigger from actuating unless the opposite side button is pushed to release the trigger?
what does the dial on the side do?
Oh are you talking about that little orange knob on the left side of the engine? That’s just a screw knob that holds the cover in place for the air filter. You unscrew that knob and the black plastic cover comes off so you can replace the air filter. Is that what you were referring to?

Is a trimmer/ edger and do echo sell something smaller for my wife
Take aook at their cordless electric trimmers.
My SRM 230 is a 2012 model in the Pas 225 is a 2019 model the Ryobi two cycle is a 2020 model
That's some precise oil to fuel mixing there!
Lol you know someone in the comments is going to bust me for not measuring properly this is the internet after all 🤣. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Nice trimmer, I may use my mind for a part time lawn service.
Charles Jackson III glad to hear that it holds up well for you under heavier use! Echo makes some good stuff. Thanks for watching!
Hi where can i buy the gasoline for that?
tiny tom most modern 2 cycle engines require a 50:1 or 40:1 gas-to-oil mixture.
Hi, thank u much for all the help.
15 year old curved shaft how is that still running
Define proper?
It's best not to use regular gas, because of ethanol.
Ethanol will destroy the carborator if you leave it in the trimmer. I use power care no ethanol gasoline from home Depot
ALBERT KAZEMIAN the stuff I use here is actually ethanol free premium. I go out of my way to find a gas station that has ethanol free specifically for my lawn equipment. Much better results and I never have issues after long term winter storage. You are absolutely right about ethanol. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great video

Save 2.6 ounce two-stroke oil bottle to pre-measure the next gallon of gasoline from a bulk container of two-stroke oil.
Handy tip! Yep I still have mine 😁

Best trimmer ever created no 🧢
1. The GAS MIXTURE is very important "RATIO" no mention of it. 2. No mention how to install the string???
I thought I mentioned it was 50:1? Either way, I showed using the pre-measured 2.6 ounce bottle of oil that came with the trimmer in the package. It says right on the bottle mix with 1 gallon of gas and shake. I did just recently do a follow up video on how to re-string the line since it came pre-loaded with echo crossfire 095. ruclips.net/video/AiRijqtZets/видео.html. Thanks for commenting!
For anybody trying to get into the landscaping business, this is the best trimmer you can own!

Do not trim wearing flip flops without first consulting your stylist.

All i have is echo
Dave Dennis it’s good stuff that’s for sure. If I get a new blower it’s going to be echo definitely!
Me too ... they always start !
Never had one in for service , they just run ... and run !
It didn't even sounded like it revved lol
No I really didn’t rev it until I put about half a tank through it lol didn’t want to gun it til it was broken in a little bit. Maybe I’m paranoid but I want it to last a while 😆. This thing RIPS though.
There is a reason why Echo doesn't need a customer return policy, their equipment could run until earth ends!

You need to pretty much fill that tank up the first time.
Yep I figured that out when it didn’t fill the primer bulb right away 😁 thanks for watching!
You are mixing your gas and oil wrong. put the oil in gas can 1st and then put the gas in the can
traduire en francais s il vous plait
@@DIYDad1 if you don't mix the gas right like putting to much oil inside it the trimmer won't run as well.
Sound like a user error on the fuel problem. Which is common when it comes to mixing 2 cycle oil for 2 strokes
Much easier to just buy the bottle of already mixed fuel the echo has.
Gustavo Macall yeah it’s definitely easier and you know you are getting quality gas mix then. It just gets expensive though if you use a lot of it that’s why I don’t buy it. But if you have a small yard I think it can be beneficial since it stores for so long.
@@DIYDad1 I have a small front yard so I'm debating on getting a small lawnmower or this echo trimmer.
Thanks again.
that ryobi looks trash. nice upgrade.
Jose Zenteno oh yeah it’s seen a lot of use and abuse over the years that’s for sure! Love my echo now! Thanks for watching!
looks like bad clutch. the head not spinning like it should.
The head is not supposed to spin when it’s at idle. When I started it up for the first time I gave it very feather light throttle at first until it warmed up, just trying to be gentle for the first tank before going full throttle until everything is broken in. But if you give it more throttle than I was initially it works totally fine.
This guy is such a fucking loser
Way to much blabbering about uninteresting things
This guy could give a aspirin a headache

Echo SRM-225 is a giant piece of shit!
I’m sorry to hear that, did you have a bad experience with one? I’m curious now! I just fired mine up for the first time this spring after sitting in the garage for 6 months and it fired right up and ran great. I wonder if you got a bad one or echo QC is slipping lately.
Don't buy this trimmer. For some reason you have to have the gas tank almost full of gas. Or it will stall on you.
Good luck!
@@DIYDad1 thank you. But I would never recommend a echo product. And there customer service would not help me.
T BIRD MAN maybe the vacuum was not working well on the engine
