- Amazique, Amazoue, Mozambique, Ovangkol, Shedua - Whatever you want to call it (I call it Ovangkol) its a fantastic wood and always a wildcard I like to throw into the mix when clients are considering rosewoods.
Interlocking grain makes it tricky to work with but the results are always worth the effort!
Let me know what you think below!
I can hear it through my Bose speakers w/o headphones. That is a beautiful set of wood.
My Taylor 416ce has Ovangkol back and sides. I love the tone!
Love this Channel! You rock brother! RUMBLE through good headphones. Amazing.
bought a Fender with this wood on the back and sides not knowing what it was. Sounds and looks great! the in between tone wood.
I recently purchased a guitar with ovangkol back and sides. It is a beautiful wood and sounds great too. It seems a bit more mellow than my rosewood guitar but it is not an apples to apples comparison. Two different body sizes/styles. I give ovangkol a thumbs up as a tonewood.
Love these tonewood reviews - insightful stuff Tom. Really looking forward to the series as it progresses... As time moves on you’ll be able to produce a draft tone chart to help your audience better understand where the different woods lie on a tonal scale. It would be really great to hear you discuss the tonal qualities of the guitars once finished - based on each wood type you’ve reviewed and how you handles the build to achieve the sound. Just a thought :) Keep ‘em comin’ !! K.
I can hear that low rumble very clearly!
Loving this new series, would you add the smell aspect on the tonewoods as well? D I´ve had some amazingly smelling cherry (like a cotton candy stand) and was wondering about other woods
I love your videos.
which oil to use to condition Ovangkol Fretboard?
my goodness, that hat you're wearing!!! what is it? i need it!!!
You should try Mexican “Palo escrito” wood
How’s the “Toneability”? 😜
