    I think the PRR T1 is one of the coolest steam locomotives that existed, really looking forward to seeing this all completed in 10 years

    • @kevinseipel5130
      @kevinseipel5130 2 года назад

      yeah but do you think realistically that maybe this new PPR T1 project will go bust again? there's a design flaw where the drive wheels are two pairs of 4 wheels. not good with traction and lots of wheel slips back when it was on the mainline back in the 1940s - 1950s. Especially if it has a wheel slip with a heavy train on steep hills. what if this backfires and ended up causing a lot of problems?

    • @skyedowning9489
      @skyedowning9489 2 года назад +3

      @@kevinseipel5130 that was not a design flaw, and they already fixed it as there was a later prr duplex which had a anti slip system which the trust is going to put on the T1. And the T1 only slipped we when going at down speed.

    This is so neat. I remember seeing the early progress I believe in 2014 and thought it would be ages before anything got truly done, since Tornado took almost 2 decades. But I'm so happy with the progress and can't wait to see it steaming in real life.

    The reason they went with 5550 is because the last original T1 was numbered 5549, so they wanted to do 5550 to add.

    This is what I heared yesterday and the fuel for the fire box will be oil and it will be very efficient for the air. To beat the record of speed it needs long sections of tracks to run on to beat the speed and the current speed record for a steam locomotive is 126 MPH and the frame will be casts in two parts and then welded together

    I find your characterization of this as some sort of 1:1 scale model, e.g. by saying there was no "real 5550", a bit misleading. I would say the T1 Trust are building a replica, not a model, and as 5549 was the last one built for the PRR they've numbered this latter-day T1 accordingly. It's common practice when building new steam engines, such as with the Peppercorn A1 Tornado in the UK.

    • @RodimusPrime

      Real is relative, this is not a model, but its also not built by the pennslyvania railroad so its semi authentic

    It's interesting that when these things existed, it never occurred to people to pool some money and buy significant engines. American railfans weren't big on putting their money where their mouths were.

    • @UrMomsChauffer
      @UrMomsChauffer Год назад

      Oftentimes, these weren't considered significant, at their present moment. So many engines were scrapped before their significance was realized. You can still see it happening with diesel locomotives. It's also an American mentality. Once something has outlived its "usefulness", it's rarely preserved. They also made money off the scrap, which is far more instantly useful, and removes the cost of maintaining a locomotive. Most rail fans throw enough into models, let alone preservation, and most can't afford both.

  • @muhammadchalidafin5644
    @muhammadchalidafin5644 2 года назад

    Hmmmm,in my opinion better use diesel engine than steam engine because now is modern technology maybe steam engine is almost rare in this world.

    Even if this monstrosity is ever completed, where is it going to operate? Due to its size and weight, it would need to run on class one RR rails and not on a tourist shortline. No class one that I know of would allow it. This beast will never run. Don't waste your money donating to this turkey.

      Let me tell you something, naysayer. You obviously don’t know anything about this project. This locomotive can go anywhere 611 or 765 can go. The trust already have agreements to operate on regionals and short line railroads. They even will go to the FRA test facility in Pueblo for high speed running. It will run and you can’t change that. You naysayers are nothing but a fan to the flames to push me and millions of supporters even harder to support the project. Millions of people are donating, regardless of your ignorant opinion. You negative opinion is not worth it. You naysayers don’t stand a chance.
