In this episode of Taming Tumbleweed, we take the first full size truck on our difficult off-road "Pond Course". Things didn't go exactly as planned, but luckily David brought his GMC to save the day.

BFG, if your watching, put some tires on David's truck. It will show how awesome your tires are when he makes it through the course without a pull.
Shoot, any half decent off road tire whether from Hankook, Toyo, BFG, Goodyear would drastically improve that old GMC 2500.

David is such a huge new asset to the team. The fact that he would even risk his truck even if it is an older one is incredible. What a great personality. The new course is turning out great.

'92 chevy flatbed only g80 on street tires keeps up with near 70k dual locker and decent tires....priceless
Nothing they did was even close to challenging is why.
I think David's 92 did pretty good considering it had road tires.

Spectacular video. I'd suggest taking a few more trees out. No sense in damaging new vehicles. Especially loaners.

Trucks have indeed gotten better. Magnitudes of scale better. I daily drive an 87 k-10 and would not trade it for the world. But I am also not naive to say anything about it, aside from its size, is better than a new truck - especially one engineered for this type of activity.
@@Cortlandt_Cash I know what you’re saying. Since the IFS the design improvements have stopped. The only improvements are technology not hardware. Bluetooth, cameras, FI, transmission.
This videos proves why these factory made off-road oriented vehicles are not worth it you pay 50-70 plus k for a vehicle and when you take it on a trail your scared to scratch it or ding it.
@@Back_door_bandit_98 but they are worth it and People do buy them new and take them off road all the time lol. Just the same way people buy new broncos and wranglers specifically for off road use.

The ZR2 is absolutely fantastic. I love this thing. It’s the right combo between off-road and onroad. It’s a super capable off-roader that you can live with daily

@@omardevonlittle3817 TRD Pro gives market share to Japan 👎🏻. The ZR2 is more capable & has front + rear lockers; better interior, and an exterior that looks way better than any Toyota.

Action packed! That one's twisted hole was gnarly. ZR2 and lockers made short work of it though.

I would take David’s truck over pretty much anything on TFL recently. I love it!
His truck is in top notch quality. The chrome on the bumper is near perfect. The down side is the big thirsty engine.
That was really cool! I was kinda surprised you took the ZR2 through some of those, that was scary 😳. Glad you guys took a 70k truck though that. I like David's truck too ,not many of those around with the 454 !

Having put nearly 200K miles combined on Michelin Defender LTX highway tires on two different 4x4s (a Frontier and a 4Runner), I know why David loves those tires so much. I also understand why he got stuck where he did. I am actually surprised he made it through some of the earlier obstacles without getting stuck, in fact. I'm still running the Michelins on the Frontier for my daughter to use it as her daily, but I upgraded to Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws on the T4R.
Once again, this just shows how amazing the GMT400 platform is and the G80, while not elegant, just simply works when you need it. Put some BFG KO2’s on David’s truck (and a full tank of gas) and I bet it would handle all of those obstacles without the mule.
David has been an awesome addition to TFL! Hope we see more of him and his pickup with some offroad tires and maybe even a full tank of gas!

The ZR2 was very impressive. If GM makes that for the HDs they will have a grand slam home run.
Zr2 might not be the strongest or fastest, but is the Swiss army knife. Just might be the best of the bunch of super trucks!
this is a great series. I've enjoyed watching all of the episodes. the ZR2 is an absolute beast in off road. the old gmc did well too.....with a little help

2-3 1/2 way💪 people pushing a truck from the back will make such a big ass difference trying to get unstuck! When I was younger we used to get stuck all the time make everybody get out & just push us out, head to the next obstacle & go get stuck again. 🤦 Joys of being a kid. 💯% fun👍👍
I remember half the time we would have 5-6 people in a vehicle that sat 4 people, most the time everybody would just get out & the vehicle would just continue on maybe a little bit of a push but it mostly had to do with so much weight & sinking the vehicle
The Mule and Andre did a great job getting David’s truck out of a couple of spots. David’s truck didn’t do that bad with the obstacles but, that ZR2 did awesome. David did a great job with the building of the obstacles on Tumble Weed Ranch. Great video guys.
I love how TFL’s videos are kinda like a home video. Everything is candid, unscripted and sometimes impromptu. It’s a breath of fresh air from all of the vehicle review channels that cut and edit everything. Keep it up TFL!

You should run the TRX (before you sell it) and the Raptor through the course. If you are going to 0-60 them you should off road them too. It would be great to see if the front locker on the ZR2 is needed on the TRX, for example.
I’ve been on the edge about the ZR2 or the AT4 and this thing is amazing. I thought, “no way it’s too big and not enough clearance” this is easily GMs best commercial.

The ZR2 is such a killer truck. Looks, power, capability. No Raptor or TRX is fitting on this course.

I am a David fanboy. He is what I hope to be like some day. It's been talked about and beaten into the dirt, but he is such a capable human. I wish he was my neighbor/friend. Also a super nice person.
I took my full size truck off road once. The width, and poor visibility are significant downsides. I bought a RZR immediately after for my off road fun.
It's why I went with a Wrangler. I almost went with a Trail boss but the size of today's full size trucks is a major downside off road. Plus, that convertible top is a lot of fun.
I had a Tacoma...now a Tundra. I love the Tundra but for off road use the Tacoma is much better. So much more maneurable in tight quarters.
@@mikefoehr235 I did the same thing. The tundra feels huge which is nice most of the time but the Taco was so much more fun up in the oregon mountains
@@TheDeanGullberry me too, but with GM stuff. I had a Canyon, it was fun off road. Sierra, not so fun.

Course is coming into its own now. Great comparison between an old 4x4 and a new one. I would love to see David's truck with at least good all terrains, if not some mud tires do the course again.

I think you guys would love aussie offroading, have a look at some of 4WD 24/7's videos, its a great example of the driving we have here in aus. Very different vehicles and some awesome tracks 👍

I remember when everyone was digging the Silverado ZR2 for not being a wide body truck. I’d LOVE to see them take the Raptor, TRX, and the Bronco through that course.
David’s truck is sweet! Much cooler than that new parade float.

Great video! The course is looking and shaping up to be a true offroad course. Really surprised about that ol' GMC! The ZR2 definitely made life easy with the lockers. It would be cool to see a Trail Boss compared to the ZR2 on this exact course on the same day. A true back to back comparison. It would be an opportunity to really see the differences with front and rear lockers of the ZR2 compared to the G80 rear locker of the Trail Boss. I must also add that Mule did a helluva job too!
TFL definitely needs more David. Great addition to the channel.

Would love to try the course with my 98 awd astro with 3 inch lift ,rear Locker, front lsd progressive coil spring shocks in the rear ,Rancho 9000 adjustable in the front with 373 gt4 gearing

It’s all about tires.. lol that blue beauty has street tires on her. He need to always keep that winch on board and upgrade those slicks:).. drive that ZR2 and let’s see what she can do. 👍
I own a 95 k2500 with the same setup, just more cab space. It's exceeded my expectations and is faster than I imagined
I absolutely love this channel and I never owned a truck. Man that's great.
That ZR2 is a powerhouse, and it made all these obstacles look pretty easy. It's still quite a bit bigger than the ZR2 Colorado, so the midsize truck would probably preform better on this course simply because it's smaller, but the Silverado still got the job done, every time. The real boss here though, is David. Plus that kinetic rope and Andrey in Dave's mule, equals good times all around.
We need this exact video but with the raptor and zr2

That old truck is awesome. All it seriously needs is a better set of tires, and swap that rear Crap-Lok for an ARB Air Locker. You end up with a functional compressor, and none of the truck’s useability is lost.
That rock rolling at 30:54 looked like it was trying to make contact with the side of the truck.
TFL should buy David a nice set of M/T tires as a gift, and a wash and tank of gas..
