Wooooow lol ive spent years trying to figure why i love this guy. And i just realized its cuz i loved house. They’re both such amazing characters completed by great actors. Thank you.
Then he is both the hunter & the hunted. That means..... He is Moby Dick, who is passing himself as Ahab. Which, judging by his criminal background- becomes a legit example of his position.
This is not a terribly imposing looking guy--- he just radiates power, competence and latent ruthlessness. It's a different character and a different vibe, but Spader's performance reminds me of how Anthony Hopkins was able to make Hannibal Lecter intensely intimidating with nothing but his voice and manner.
“And finally, most importantly? I speak only with Elizabeth keen.” Yeah we are going to have to make an exception on that rule for season 9. Gawd that’s going to be awful.
There has never been and will never be a series actor as good as James Spader. And I say that as a person who has seen more series than most of the people on this planet.
It’s called The Blacklist. That sounds exciting. That’s why we’re all here, of course. My wish list. A list I’ve been cultivating for over twenty years. Politicians, mobsters, hackers, spies. Ressler: We have our own list. Red: Agent Ressler, please. We all know your Top Ten is little more than a publicity campaign. It’s a popularity contest at best. I’m talking about the criminals who matter. The ones you can’t find because you don’t even know they exist. Zamani was a small fish. I’m Ahab. And if you want the whales on my list, you have to play by my rules. I never sleep in the same location for more than two nights in a row. I want a fully encrypted 8-millimeter tag embedded in my neck not that garbage from AlphaChip you stuck in my shoulder. I want my own security I’ve compiled a list of five acceptable applicants. Pick two. Whatever I tell you falls under an immunity package that I negotiate myself. And finally, most importantly, I speak only with Elizabeth Keen.
My two favorite scenes are in the first season. And my third is in the second season. 1. The opening scene of the entire show when he is sitting on the bench before he goes into the FBI headquarters then he talking to his butler. Then he steps into the headquarters and introduces himself and get on his knees with his hands above his head before they even show up. 2. My second favorite scene is when he's at a person's house getting ready to have stroganoff. Then he locks the wife in the closet threatens to shoot her if she's not quiet. Then goes to interrogate the husband, shoots him in the leg. and excuses himself tells the wife what a lovely dinner. 3. and my third is when he's trying to find a leak in his organization gives a speech about Loyalty and then kills the guy.

im rewatching the show and on episode one when red said to lizzy " of course you dont believe me criminals lie....everything about me is a lie" then a few episodes down the line red told lizzy " i have never lied to you" IT JUST MAKES SO MUCH SENSE NOW
I really wish he is one the main villains in one of the movies Mat Reeves, Batman trilogy. Maybe Ra's Al Ghul. James Spader is just pure..... A character of depth. He could be able to pull off what Joker did in the Dark Knight as Ra's
Red Reddington deserves to be in the same league of iconic male drama anti hero characters as Gregory House, Tony Soprano, Dexter Morgan, Vic Mackey, Don Draper, Walter White, and Andy Sipowicz. James Spader never winning an Emmy for this role is insane!
Weirdly enough I slept thru the first two episodes and never seen this clip then I binged watched like 7 or 8 seasons. The last episode that was made during the pandemic is actually the best episode.
@@seneca1932 The Hebrew etymology is not relevant. Reddington makes several references to the Herman Melville novel: small fish (minor criminals), whales (big criminals) and Ahab (the whale hunter).

I love when he is talking to someone who is his enemy and is about to be tourtchered or wtv and he just starts narrating this story from 6yrs ago in Baghdad or something
After you lived long enough and seen enough TV most shows blend into other shows and almost nothing looks new or interesting. This show is new and interesting and Spader is the reason. I could watch an entire episode of just him monologuing
I could
Here, here 🙋🏽♂️
I am rewatching it... on season 7
Yesssss
i would love that
No criminal in movies or tv makes you want to root for them like you would root for Red. A true badass.

It’s gotten a bit too political for me

I can't see anyone else as Red! The casting was perfect!

That voice. It draws you in.
This man is the greatest actor to have ever existed
And quite possibly the greatest character ever!
In episode 5x13 he says: "I'm Moby Dick." He should make up his mind about who he is...
He is popeye the sailor man
