I like the way the drill instructor makes you say your rank and has you sing a song while your freezing your ass off. Maintain focus under pressure..

Fact: This is not a tactical situation (no enemy around), it is to teach the soldier how to get out of the ice plain and simple , the Rum is a tradition . Norwegian soldiers are great in there environment but Royal Marines Commando's train for many environments , I also bet many of those Norweigan soldiers Goocie spoke about went down with hyperthermia but he wouldn't admit that here.

I'm British but I can see where you're coming from considering Norwegians grow up in those kind of conditions and would clearly have a massive advantage in winter warfare.

When I was in the army in Norway we had to bath in ice water too but after we got up we changed our clothes immediately outside and not in a warm tent but we were not in the water or in wet clothes for that long... The temperature/wind condition has alot to say too. It was about -15C when we did it. But it could have been -20C or more. I think it must have been colder than -20C here because they had to use a warm tent

As a former Sgt. in the Austrian mountaininfantry I strongly doubt the necessity of this kind of "training". Apart from that RM are a crazy bunch and damn good soldiers.

Arctic warfare is different to Jungle warfare , both require specialist survival training.
