The beautiful song was secondary to what we were watching. When Lex leaned into Nick and emoted that she knew what he was feeling inside - and conveyed that feeling through a loving touch - The connection of two spirits in love - is the world's most beautiful thing. I would die - and go directly to heaven - if a woman looked at me that way.
@@blaze1148 I'm in Canada. I feel that TFF is underrated here. I only hear them mostly because of one friend who was a fan, and when I seek them out. I don't feel like I see or hear references to them as often as they deserve.

This song is a timeless classic along with tracks like I Believe, The Working Hour, Bad Man's Song, and Sketches of Pain. So much more than just pop.
You're so right! I'm not particularly a fan of the 1980's (prefer the 60's) but Tears For Fears would have made it in any decade. Like you said it's the production that I think sets them apart, every note, instrument, vocal is exactly what each song needs, no more no less.
In 1985, Adams was discovered by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, founders of the English band Tears for Fears, while she was performing in a hotel bar in Kansas City, Missouri, while they were on a US tour. Two years later, they contacted her to invite her to join their band as a singer and pianist on their next album, The Seeds of Love. In 1989, the album was released and the single "Woman in Chains", sung as a duet by Adams and Orzabal and with Phil Collins on drums, became her first hit. Adams embarked on a world tour with Tears For Fears in 1990, performing by herself as the supporting artist at the start of each show, and remaining onstage throughout the Tears For Fears set where she would provide piano and vocals.
I was blessed to have seen them the first time on this tour in St Louis in 1990 (2nd was Elemental Tour). Seeds Of Love Tour was 100% in my Top 10 best concerts of my life, and Ive been to over 150 shows over the years! Oleta Adams was just a gem! I'm so lucky I got to see that tour with her doing all those new songs... Year Of The Knife, Badman's Song, Working Hour, and Oleta did one, Ive Got To Sing My Song. One of the greatest live performances of my life.

@@MrBfg586 It was the 80's. A lot of songs in that era sounded over-produced. But this song in particular was understated and mellow for an 80's track. Something of an intro into the 90's where pop/rock music was more stripped down and basic. Too bad this song didn't chart as well as Seeds Of Love. Otherwise, more people would have noticed this shift in TFF's sound.
Hi, Nick and Lex, here´s some interesting data about this song. The drummer for the first half of the song is Manú Katche, and from 3:32 on is Phil Collins (7:14 on your video). You can tell the difference.
Phil quotes that tears were looking for a drum fill like in the air tonight , but Phil says it was impossible to 're create or even come close to in the air tonight
Just rediscovered this masterpiece. Back when it first came out, I had noticed the way the drum part was played sounded familiar, especially at the end with the offset snare hit. It was none other than Phil Collins.
The thing with this song is that, for me, it’s one of the most perfect song from a technicality musical point of view, elegant, complex because of the layers, with a strong and charming structure, with an amazing job at the vocal harmonies, a deep and strong but attractive and charming intro, I mean, technically SO GOOD; of course the eternal favorites from Tears for Fears, their two greatest commercial success are Shout and Everybody Wants to Rule the World, ¡but THIS ONE is their PERFECT song!
Fun fact, singer Oleta Adams was discovered by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith while they were on tour and in Kansas City. She was performing at the Hyatt Hotel in the bar. She stopped performing shortly after that, but 2 years later they called her to join them as a singer and pianist. Go figure. The rest is history :) Beautiful voice. Tears for Fears is pretty good too. Good reaction!

If you want another stunning TFF song that is less well-know than Shout, Head over Heels, etc, I would highly recommend THE WORKING HOUR. It's a psychotherapy session in 6'30" revealing their traumatic childhoods and their sessions in primal scream therapy. It's off their second album Songs From the Big Chair.
If you want to appreciate this song on an even higher plane, take the opportunity to listen to it on an expensive music system with top grade speakers - then turn up the volume. As my favourite TFF song I have heard it loads of times, but when I listened to it like this...man! It brought tears to my eyes! I was with you guys every second! So glad you appreciated it.
The first time I heard this song...I was shaking with emotion from start to finish! And every time I listen to it again... it's always like the first time ❤️
I think I trained my ears at an early age with the "British Invasion" sound (Beatles, Stones, The Who, etc) and then was subsequently attracted to later British bands and their releases. Tears For Fears, Howard Jones, Joy Division then New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Eurythmics, The Smiths, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Roxy Music, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Duran Duran, Wham, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Happy Mondays, etc, etc I am not saying there weren't great American Bands of the same era, but I leaned toward that particular "British" sound out of my love for the early "Invasion" sound. For the pedantic Muppets amongst us Yes ""Tears for Fears"" are a English band that came from the city of Bath Somerset formed in 1981 by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith however they are also British citizens since collectively the UK is a Union of three main countries England Wales Scotland and additional northern Ireland thus if you have passport supprize supprize it's called A "British passport"" with ower Queen as head of state HRM Queen Elizabeth which again technically and funnily enouph make them British hope this helped lol 😜 🤣🇬🇧
@Allan : They’re from Bath, which is in the South West of England, England being a part of the United Kingdom, or Great Britain, which would make them both English and British, they’re great Britons, and excellent Englishmen
What just happened? You just heard one of the best albums of the 80s. Interesting story about Oletta Adams: the band was touring their second album (Songs From The Big Chair) and they felt stuck to all the machines they used on stage, all the keyboards and sequencers and drum machines. One depressing night they stumbled into their hotel after the show and found this lady playing piano and singing songs for a living in the bar of the hotel and were amazed by her. After the tour they started working on this particular album and were getting nowhere and felt they were stuck in a rut and wanted to come up with a sound that was more organic. And then they remembered her and the way she made them feel and eventually tracked her down and invited her to become involved in the making of the album. Eventually she ended up playing on at least three songs and singing on the this song and the song Bad Man's Song and also came with them on tour. Then TFF had the genius idea of starting every show with Oleta singing the song I Believe (from their second album) after which the whole band would come on stage.
It was in a Kansas City hotel where they heard Oleta. Shout out to KC! The deliberate and slow build up are goosebump-inducing. I remember hearing it for the first time when it first came out and just being in awe.
In my view, these are one of the best bands to ever come out of the UK massively underrated the production value the lyric content and the quality this band produced throughout their albums hence has just been at the highest level. I’ve followed in support of these ever since mad world.
The sonics of this song are unreal...headphones are absolutely necessary. Thanks for a wonderful reaction. Woman In Chains is one of the most beautifully produced songs made. And the message it sends out is incredible. Falling Down would be a good place to go next for Tears For Fears
Such an excellent duet. Their voices really compliment each other so well. The music adds all the textures to create a beautiful and emotional soundscape that gives the lyrics their due.
Tears for Fears songs always had such a sadness. Big Pop Band from the 80s with 3 very good Albums: The Hurting (my favorite), Songs from the Big Chair and The Seeds of Love (in the ranking portal Best Albums Ever No. 422). Pop music of the better kind.🎧🇩🇪
I saw TFF live when they were supporting this album. I knew nothing about them save for Shout and Everybody Wants to Rule the World. It still stands 30 years later as the greatest concert I’ve ever attended. I’ve never been so moved by music before. Absolutely overwhelming.
Right. I wasn't into this album yet when I saw them in Dallas on the Seeds of Love tour. And was blown away when Oleta and her piano came up out of the stage, playing this, i think!? Opening song? I don't think I made that up. Is that how you remember it?
Thanks for your effort and open hearts you pour into these videos. Tears for fears has many terrific songs that didn't make radio play. at the time Album/CD sales were still popular, and they always had four or five out of nine songs on each album that had a groove or a feeling that stuck. try the Hurting, Working Hour, Change, Pale Shelter, and Mother's Talk. Even if you don't make a video on them, just for you be sure to listen. Enjoy!
I'm just really glad that you guys didn't interrupt the song. I grew up listening to '80s music and I don't know you. would always appreciate the song when you listen to it completely and I'm really glad that younger generations like you guys just take it all in and listen and then make your remarks. but I'm also glad that you guys appreciate it too because I'm in my forties now and this song still has the same emotional impact as it did when I listen to it when I was a little kid. thank you guys. there's still hope for the young generation
I agree Jeff gets me too. Let’s try to round up enough requests for a Badmans song it’s an absolute must off this album. Watching these guys it’s almost like they’re playing every album out of my collection such a Lotta fun to watch them react.
Thanks for reminding me of the magic that is this song (the whole record, really). And I was truly touched by the compersion it seemed Lex was experiencing witnessing Nick's reaction.
Yeah, what just happened?? I was with you all the way.. very emotional.. it was spiritual. So incredibly beautiful wasn’t it? I feel so lucky that I was around when it came out. Seeds of love will be an album I get again on vinyl very soon. It’s so good to see you guys react in this way.
One of my favourite tracks. Saw them on tour in 2019. Absolutely awesome. How about that production Nick for 1989! By the way Phil Collins guested on the drums!
Great band ,great song , one of the best SOUNDING albums of the 80s, and a perfect example of prog pop. Tears For Fears are criminally underrated, and deserve far more praise than they get. They are a musicians band . Metalheads , proggers , rockers , popstars....TFF is universally respected. There isn't one weak link on this album, " Seeds Of Love" , and the same goes for " Songs From The Big Chair" . Two back to back PERFECT albums.....
My college roommate had a big kickin' stereo back in 1990 and he introduced me to this. I just layed by his speaker and listened to this with my eyes closed. When it ended, I remember saying "play it again!" and I proceded to listen to it over and over while he did his homework on his computer.
I first heard this song about 8 months ago and, admittedly, I had about the same reaction as Nick... totally blown away... an absolute masterpiece in my opinion. Somewhat ironically, I was in the middle of writing a screenplay at the time and I realized this is the perfect song for the FADE OUT and ROLL CREDITS, so I added it to the script, which subsequently became an award winner (not yet picked up by a producer, but there is always hope, right?). Anyway, just wanted to say that I loved your reaction (both Nick & Lex)... keep up the great work!
Just stunning piece of music, isn't it. The layering of sound is incredible. Tears is an amazing trip. Isn't it an absolute blessing to have people give you these gifts of music? Here's one for you.... On The Road by Max Webster.
I am only just discovering your channel and this reaction is everything!! ❤️ Your reaction sums up how I feel about this song every, single, time I hear it!! An absolute masterpiece in every way. I agree with pretty much everything everyone has said about this song. It leaves me emotional, bewildered, happy, sad, grateful, in awe......etc., etc., but never want it to end. I love your reactions. 🙏🏻
Love, love, love this band! Saw them several times in concert. One of them was with Oleta Adams. Roland’s voice is phenomenal.... just as powerful live! There is not one song I don’t like throughout their entire career! Should check out Laid So Low(Tears Roll Down), Sketches of Pain, Standing on the Corner of the Third World
It really is the the return of the king of songs just when you think it’s over it goes to another level and excites you over and over especially musically
Such a gorgeous tune. This whole album is amazing. It's got a couple of "Pop" tunes, such as "Sowing the Seeds of Love" and "Advice For The Young At Heart", but it's also got some unbelievable progressive music (it's Rock but it's also "World" music too) on it, as well! You should hear "Side 2" of the album. It's different from "Side 1". Listen to "Standing on the Corner of the Third World" and "Swords And Knives" for some really dark TFF. Also listen to "The Year of the Knife" for some unbelievable Prog TFF! You just have to hear it, and it's a live cut on an otherwise studio album (by the way, the great Simon Phillips plays drums on it)! Also listen to "Bad Man's Song" for some Gospel-flavored music (Manu Katche plays drums)! Oletta gets to rock out on vocals and piano on that song! By the last song on the album is yet another wonderful LOVE song...again, you just have to hear it. It's beautiful and poignant. God bless. :)

That's a very amazing powerful song that reaches into many people's soul.
Enjoy!
I remember being at a Soda Stereo and Tears for fears concert with the two groups sharing the stage...
Damn!
I can only shout at the moment, after listening to this beautiful song.
I have been defaulting to this for many years......it never lets me down. Beautiful reaction
TEARS FOR FEARS "SOWING THE SEEDS OF LOVE"...A MUST HEAR..TRUTH!!
Great reaction! That key change, where the refrain changes from “woman in chains” to “so free her”... gets me every time!
I agree Jeff gets me too. Let’s try to round up enough requests for a Badmans song it’s an absolute must off this album. Watching these guys it’s almost like they’re playing every album out of my collection such a Lotta fun to watch them react.
Can’t hurt to try for Bad Man’s Song! After all, they say faith can move mountains...fire can cleanse your soul...
Thanks for reminding me of the magic that is this song (the whole record, really). And I was truly touched by the compersion it seemed Lex was experiencing witnessing Nick's reaction.
The music video explains a lot of this song….beautiful voices and music. You two have great hearts it is obvious.
This song has been on my play list for decades and still has the ability to bring me to tears. It's so beautiful and powerful.
This group is Sheer Class.Outstanding live...!!!!!
Had not heard that one in a long time. Better than I remembered. Thanks for that.
Tears for Fears. Masterful; really one of my favourite 80s bands.
One of my favourite tracks. Saw them on tour in 2019. Absolutely awesome. How about that production Nick for 1989! By the way Phil Collins guested on the drums!
This song always makes me cry. It's such an emotional roller coaster ride for me.
Agreed on Woman in Chains. But On the Road is very meh.
Steven Wilson did the 2020 surround sound mix of this album!
It's probably Steve's best surround mix. Phenomenal
I am only just discovering your channel and this reaction is everything!! ❤️
Your reaction sums up how I feel about this song every, single, time I hear it!!
An absolute masterpiece in every way.
I agree with pretty much everything everyone has said about this song.
It leaves me emotional, bewildered, happy, sad, grateful, in awe......etc., etc., but never want it to end.
I love your reactions. 🙏🏻
A lot of bands get known for their hits, but behind these often lays a very talented set of musicians and this track is just proof of it.
not only a beautiful-sounding song... but, such a wonderful message...
Love, love, love this band! Saw them several times in concert. One of them was with Oleta Adams. Roland’s voice is phenomenal.... just as powerful live! There is not one song I don’t like throughout their entire career! Should check out Laid So Low(Tears Roll Down), Sketches of Pain, Standing on the Corner of the Third World
One song that has remained on my playlist since I heard it as a kid.
Great seeing the joy come over you both. It's an amazing song, truly beautiful ❤️
Thank you for this, guys! I've been thinking of doing a deeper dive on Tears for Fears for awhile, and now I think I will do it!
This kind of music hypnotizes you into a state of mind that makes you journey on your individual plane of emotions.
Please do “Standing On The Corner Of The Third World” sometime!
Off the same album...
Great song! I also suggested this! 👍
Wow! Yes. This song is big! Probably my favorite of theirs. So powerful and emotional! This one ....yeah, I cry...
This song is a masterpiece!my favorite one from Tears for fears ❤❤❤❤❤😭😭
It really is the the return of the king of songs just when you think it’s over it goes to another level and excites you over and over especially musically
This song always gives me goosebumps from head to toe… but seeing your reaction actually made me cry.
This sound was so fresh way back when. It still sounds fresh today. This song CHILLS. Thank you for keeping Music 🎶 alive. 😆💕🪴🌻💙
i love this reaction because you felt the whole damn thing
Just the best in every way! Love it
Always love these guys-the video of this song is very powerful if you can find it.
God bless. :)
Seeing a TFF show is an incredible experience. Sowing The Seeds of Love and Head Over Heels are my two favs.
This song was written by the vocalist and tells the true story of his mother's life! Wonderful Music!
Great reaction to a wonderful song. It blew me away too on first listen to the album back in the day.
You really go in with open ears and you give it your full attention which is lovely to see!
This song is so emotional, the vocalists are really brilliant and amazing ❤❤❤❤
