Yes, many people are still waiting for the grand opening ceremony. I think this will consist of a parade to transfer the last of the King Tut treasures from the old museum to the new one, and then it will be fully open. But the good thing for now is that you can still see the masterpieces of the King Tut collection, but just in a different building (the old museum downtown).
I guess we were all hoping that the Gem would open with all the old museum pieces relocated.Lets try not to be cynical of the motives involved.Lets be happy that both museums are open for viewing. Imagine if the Louvre and the D'orsay were to be incorporated.I can't. Please be happy that both (Gem and downtown)are only an Uber ride away.Haal from Oz
That's actually a great point. We should look at it like now we have 1.75x the museum we previously did here in Cairo, and soon we will have 2x. And you're right, even the old building is a classic and is great. And I just heard that they are redeveloping the area around it into a park-like area that people can go spend time in and appreciate not only that beautiful art deco building that housed the old museum, but can enjoy the old museum in a much better way when all of the new rennovations are finished.
3: Definitely the GEM and The old Egyptian Cairo museum in Tahrir square, Cairo, and certainly the National museum of Egyptian Civilization. All 3 are close to each other. I was there last month with family... Fantastic experience and one trip that must be seen in our lifetime
Where are the King Tut items that have been moved to this museum? Any yet? Just not on display? We went and saw the the Tut mask, coffins and other items today at the other museum. ❤
All of the King Tut tomb contents that was not on display at the old museum (in storage all these years) plus most of the Tut artifacts that were outside of the old museum's treasure room are not installed in the King Tut galleries of the new museum. However, the major treasures still remain in the King Tut treasure room on the upper floor of the old museum, as you saw earlier this month. They will hopefully be moved before too long and reunited with the rest of the tomb contents in the new King Tut galleries, which remain closed until TBD.
If you TRULY only have time for ONE museum, probably the old one downtown in Tahrir Square because you'll still see many old artifacts plus the King Tut treasures in that museum. But I would try to make time for at least 2 of them, and all 3 of them for anyone who has a full day available.
@@Mohamed._-magdy Yes ..same thoughts here. I visited the old museum back in 1973. This is all new to me. Will be planning my trip soon to go again and visit both.
I think they were trying to strike a balance between the modern setting of the new museum building and the historical nature of the artifacts. When you visit in person, I don't think it comes across as tacky. Check out the second video that we just released on the channel that's a Part 2 of this new galleries tour and see if you still get that same vibe. And if so, you still may not feel that way when you visit in person.
First of all, thanks for the video but my personal opinion is that they're going to keep this museum and the Cairo museum open for a long time so that people will pay for these 2 museums... I'm planning to go to Egypt in March and I'll just go to the Cairo museum not the GEM there isn't enough material there yet... Even if there are already some interesting things
@@kelkhishin1446If GEM is fully open and operational by March then yes it will be the museum to visit but that's far from being the case and every year it's delayed
