Check out "Sabaton - The Carolean's Prayer". This is about the soldiers of Charles XII who were called Caroleans. Religion was heavily used as a tool for discipline and taking the lord's name in vain was punishable by death for example. They were also told that if they were supposed to die in a battle there were no point in taking cover as your fate was already sealed and the Caroleans was famous for walking into a rain of bullets and just marching forward and were told not to fire their muskets before they could see the white in the enemies eyes..
I’ve never heard about that fact about carolean soldiers being ‘fated’, it’s quite interesting since that actually connects somewhat to the old Norse pagan belief about being fated.

He actually crowned himself since he was, as his father, an absolute monarch. Karl XII or Charles XII. In latin Carolus Rex = Karl King. Sweden was actually an empire and the soldiers were called Karoliner. From "carolus"
I just discovered sabaton a few weeks ago. Ive been away from power metal for about 10 years. My spirit in this music is renewed. I remember the exact moment and everything i was doing when i heard carolus rex......fucking awesome sing
I like Manowar but it would be a boring reaction/review. Not much to discuss exept they made cool songs.. Exept if they want to discuss swords and thunder and stuff lol
Carolus is also the swedish name of the North Star another fact his father called himself the "Sun King" and it was an ultimate screw you too his father which it basically stated like this "Yes you are the sun but you have too set, i am the north star and i am always present day or night" the reason for this is that very far north the north star is visible even in broad daylight.
You had North. That is hardly ''half of Europe'''. But Carolus realy was serious guy. Unfortunatly sometimes too much. For example that whole ''Augustus II. the Strong must leave Poland'' thing. In the end it's cost him the war.
@Knasterreal1 I think if he would agree with August's peace offer and let him be the king then he could also make Russians surrender. After Narva, he gave to Russians too much time for everything they needed, by fighting August (for years) and trying to make the king of Leszczyński. Instead that, he could pressure the Russians, march on Moscow and make Peter I. ask for peace. Maybe, especially not long after Narva, even without some big battle. But Carolus just had to be the one who created the peace terms and one of them was: ''August must abdicate and Leszczyński must be the king''. The time he spent on it was the problem, not, like you said, August himself. On the other hand, I'm just talking about ''if''. So it could happen like I said or also absolutely different way. But I really belive, that his hatered for August II. was the key reason for his loss.
@@ghost500eI think maybe you should read something. Sweden ruled over Pomerania, the city of Vismar and the bishop of Bremen-Verder. Really small part of what Germany is today and what 'German's Europe' was back in the day. But they had some power (for a while) in HRE, that's true. Also, if we are talking about "Swedish Empire," Sweden has never ruled over Poland or any part of it. Karl XII. only wanted to change the king, but never waned to rule over Poland himself or somehow control the new king. Sweden had Finland, Estonia and parts of today Norway, Latvia and Lithuania plus those germans piecis.
AWESOME STUFF A cool thing about the song 1648 on the Carolus Rex album, the Swedish version speaks on the Swedish POV and the English version speaks on the POV of the city of Prague.
More than any other band, Sabaton is METAL AS FUCK! They have dozens of songs that are just overpoweringly brutal. Caroleans prayer. Ghost division, Primo Victoria, wehrmacht, final solution, the price of a mile, and many MANY more.
Ah Sabaton! Love the Swedes for their historical power metal! So much good songs to pick from aswell... this is a good starting point! Swedish Pagans and Night Witches are personal favourites.
6:56 I totally get her reaction. A climactic note followed by suspenseful silence. Silence properly used in music can have just as much impact as notes. It’s like that Japanese art style that only uses a few strokes then lets the negative space complete the picture.
Sabaton does have a christian song. well, not really but it has been made into one. The Last Stand. It is about the sack of Rome in 1527 where 189 swiss guards had their last stand protecting the Pope .
As a swede this is very interesting to listen to this guy going off.. Its like looking at a carpenter who got all the right tools for the job and pretty good know-how but he still misses that nail at every swing..
Lutheran, Swedes, and in the era of the Swedish empire rulers were usually ascending to the throne before 20, but not his successor, his sister who ruled two years before abdicating to her husband, but a lot of these rulers died in battle, Gustavus Adolphus was a predecessor of his, died at Lützen in the 30 years war, 1632, he took control at age 17, and died a year after his greatest victory in Fraustadt
Also, check out their songs "The Lion of the North" and "Breitenfeld" Both songs are about King Gustavus Adolphus the Second of Sweden. Each of these Kings 9Adolphus and Charles) Ruled from their fifteenth birthdays until their deaths in battle. Adolphus during the Thirty Years War and Charles during the Great Northern War.
I personally would love to see you two react to Resist and bite, Night witches, Shiroyama, Sparta, Blood of Bannokburn, The Last Stand, Lifetime of war, and 40:1
One thing that might help understand this song: Sweden was not Catholic anymore at this point, but rather protestant, which means that he couldn't care less about what the Pope said. Also, in protestant monarchies it was/is not rare for the king to be also the head of the church, which would make him much more influential than he already was inside the country. Lastly, the idea of a "divine right" to rule was very widespread in European absolute monarchies at the time
Carolus or Karl XII was a son of the king of Sweden, Karl XII was 14 when he came to rule Sweden, surrounding countrys saw a chance to invade Swedens since it was ruled by a young boy, but this young boy was special and won every battle, even tho he was outnumbered, until it fell apart, maybe by arrogance? historians believe he was shoot to death by his own, but we wont know i guess. During this time Sweden was protestant country and the church ruled much of the every day lives of the people in Sweden. This album is a historic view of Sweden during its era of great empire, and before release the lyrics was examined by a historian. The album was released in both swedish and english I love this album and recommend it to everybody, not only is it great music but also a nice way to learn a little history :)
"historians believe he was shoot to death by his own, but we wont know i guess" No they don't Patrik. This theory has been disproven by new research and historians generally shun it.
He also came to power at 15, he was also Lutheran (a division of Protestantism). He was kinda arrogant but was an extremely gifted commander. It is only by sheer luck that the battle of Poltava went badly, due to a shot to the foot that left him unable to command.
Sweet! I was hoping you would do Sabaton again 🤘🏻 this whole album is a masterpiece that tells the story of the rise and fall of the Swedish Empire. Try some older Sabaton in the future. Swedens last warrior king. Carolious rex. Crowned at 15, went to war at 18. Died in norway 1718 at the age of 36, by a bullet in the head. They carried the king back to sweden and half the men died in a blizzard. AND they walked thru my home town of Vänersborg ☺
Now that I've watched the video I KNEW y'all would appreciate this song. King Charles XII is an interesting monarch for sure. If ya get a chance listen to the song Caroleans Prayer which came before this on the album, and Killing Ground which came after on the album. The whole album is about the rise and fall of the Swedish Empire. Carolus Rex being it's final monarch. (Part of why Sabaton did this album, they're swedes, this is their history) Hell, Gott Mit Uns (translated as God With Us) off the same album about the battle of Britenfeld would be a HELL of a song to react to as well. Dunno if y'all can tell, this is a favorite album.
Charles was Protestant, Sweden had been for decades. The Protestant Church in Sweden used the Carolean Bible (that he had published) until 1917. King Charles XII was going by the Divine Right of Kings doctrine, as developed by James VI of Scotland as a protestant idea.
The swedish Carolean Battlecry at this timne was Got mit uns witch means God with us. Sweden at this time was a very religus country and one of the reasons why the caroleans was so feared on the battlefield was their religous fervor they showed, they went into every battle with the knowledge that god had preordained who would live and who would die beforehand.

He actually crowned himself since he was, as his father, an absolute monarch. Karl XII or Charles XII. In latin Carolus Rex = Karl King. Sweden was actually an empire and the soldiers were called Karoliner. From "carolus"
Such an epic song! had this one on repeat for a good while when i first heard it!
You guys should check out Windir - Journey to the End, Burzum - Det Som Engang Var, and Elder - Sanctuary!
I just discovered sabaton a few weeks ago. Ive been away from power metal for about 10 years. My spirit in this music is renewed. I remember the exact moment and everything i was doing when i heard carolus rex......fucking awesome sing
I would love seeing you guys react to more Sabaton! A few song recommendations: The last stand, lifetime of war, caroleans pray, lion of the north.
Congratz on 100.000 subscribers, y'all are literally the best ''reaction'' channel.
As a total history nut, Sabaton is my favorite band. I recommend 40:1, The Last Stand, Primo Victoria, or Screaming Eagles.
Really been looking forward to more Sabaton
Manowar - Hail and kill
Savatage - Power of the night
Dream evil - The book of heavy metal
Running wild - Conquistadores
Definitely ManOwaR, although I'd suggest Under Jolly Roger.
@@MajesticDemonLord "Death Or Glory" would be a great choice too.
I like Manowar but it would be a boring reaction/review. Not much to discuss exept they made cool songs.. Exept if they want to discuss swords and thunder and stuff lol
@@didde00 Maybe "Mountains" would be a better choice - not that kind of lyrics
Fuck yes to Dream Evil! 🤘
The King of Sweden is both the King and Pope of the Swedish church.
22 Acacia Avenue - Iron Maiden
Carolus is also the swedish name of the North Star another fact his father called himself the "Sun King" and it was an ultimate screw you too his father which it basically stated like this "Yes you are the sun but you have too set, i am the north star and i am always present day or night" the reason for this is that very far north the north star is visible even in broad daylight.
Dudes, you need to look into what Sweden did back in the day. We took half of europe. This guy was dead serious.
@Knasterreal1 Cutting Denmark off from the world is a very noble mission!
@Knasterreal1 Denmark returns to war after Poltava, not before Narva.
AWESOME STUFF
A cool thing about the song 1648 on the Carolus Rex album, the Swedish version speaks on the Swedish POV and the English version speaks on the POV of the city of Prague.
More than any other band, Sabaton is METAL AS FUCK! They have dozens of songs that are just overpoweringly brutal.
Caroleans prayer. Ghost division, Primo Victoria, wehrmacht, final solution, the price of a mile, and many MANY more.
Vinand sori they are touring this year in the states, i would recommend catching them if they are laying near you. their live show is INTENSE!
MANOWAR - The Power Of Thy Sword
MANOWAR - Guyana
MANOWAR - KIngdom Come
Ah Sabaton! Love the Swedes for their historical power metal! So much good songs to pick from aswell... this is a good starting point! Swedish Pagans and Night Witches are personal favourites.
React to Sabaton:
-Gott mit uns
-The Last Stand
-Lifetime of War
6:56 I totally get her reaction. A climactic note followed by suspenseful silence. Silence properly used in music can have just as much impact as notes. It’s like that Japanese art style that only uses a few strokes then lets the negative space complete the picture.
Do Caroleans Prayer next!
It's also about Carolus and his Army known as the "Caroleans"
Carolus meaning Charles/Carl, and that name meaning "free man", Caroleans meaning "free men".
Much respect from sweden! 🤟😉
Nice to see more Sabaton, would love to see your reaction to The Final Solution or The Last Stand from Sabaton or Brothers of Metal - Freya
the live version of this song blows the album version out of the water. the crowd will always sing along too :) lotta fun
The Last Stand!
happy you did this reaction on the day of my birthday, i love sabaton
WINTERSUN - Time (live @ Sonic Pump Studios)
Lutheran, Swedes, and in the era of the Swedish empire rulers were usually ascending to the throne before 20, but not his successor, his sister who ruled two years before abdicating to her husband, but a lot of these rulers died in battle, Gustavus Adolphus was a predecessor of his, died at Lützen in the 30 years war, 1632, he took control at age 17, and died a year after his greatest victory in Fraustadt
This album is not only about Karl, they also sing about Gustav II adolph
Actualy interesting toughts from you guys
Carolus Rex - Latin name of king Karl XII of sweden our bigest war king he was awsome at wars he was a great king
I love this song! Sabaton have some of the catchiest songs ever! :)
You guys would like Last Stand, but you should also react to swedish pagans, Primo Victoria, Ghost Division, PANZERKAMPF and there are many more!!!
14:50 That's exactly what the swedish lyrics say. It's pretty much "My will be done".
the Album is about the rise and fall of the Swedish empire
Soraka dude ?
Really ?
What's the name of the first song? I've gotta listen to iiiiiiiiiiiit!
vanhävd - om den vulgära farssens nonsens (ruclips.net/video/1vLT5cSc9XI/видео.htmlsi=_whBqAdiIDrwthYA)
23:25 Sometimes, cheesy can be good.
Cheesy bread, cheesy pizza, cheesy macaroni, cheesy power metal... 🧀
@Vin, There has even been a time where there was 5 rulers for rome, 193AD to be exact. It is also reffered to as the year of the 5 rulers.
Should do Sabaton Carolean’s prayer or The Last Stand. Basically what I'm saying is: React to all their stuff lol!
Yes! More Sabaton!
You cannot escape the Head Bob of Sabaton
Also, check out their songs "The Lion of the North" and "Breitenfeld" Both songs are about King Gustavus Adolphus the Second of Sweden. Each of these Kings 9Adolphus and Charles) Ruled from their fifteenth birthdays until their deaths in battle. Adolphus during the Thirty Years War and Charles during the Great Northern War.
Moonspell - Night Eternal
I personally would love to see you two react to Resist and bite, Night witches, Shiroyama, Sparta, Blood of Bannokburn, The Last Stand, Lifetime of war, and 40:1
In Sweden we are lutheran. 1600-ish were in war partly because we wasnt very fond of Catholics :D
The album was released in both swedish and english
I love this album and recommend it to everybody, not only is it great music but also a nice way to learn a little history :)
"historians believe he was shoot to death by his own, but we wont know i guess"
No they don't Patrik.
@@Erikaaaaaaaaaaaaa Yes he was shot by norwegens
Sabaton songs are the best history lessons ever! I wish they were my teachers when I was in school. I would have paid more attention!
Sweet! I was hoping you would do Sabaton again 🤘🏻 this whole album is a masterpiece that tells the story of the rise and fall of the Swedish Empire. Try some older Sabaton in the future. Primo Victoria, Panzer Battalion, The Art of War, and 40:1. The last one should be live from 2012 😉
Helloween ☆ Keeper of the seven keys 🎃
KING OF THE NORTH
Love your videos keep it up. Really hoping you will do a video on "Long live the king"
Epica-Kingdom of Heaven (live)
Swedens last warrior king. Carolious rex. Crowned at 15, went to war at 18. Died in norway 1718 at the age of 36, by a bullet in the head. They carried the king back to sweden and half the men died in a blizzard. AND they walked thru my home town of Vänersborg ☺
To hell and back is probably the best sabaton song
Aw yeah! This is a great choice off their best album! Definitely excited to see your reaction to this track.
(Part of why Sabaton did this album, they're swedes, this is their history)
Hell, Gott Mit Uns (translated as God With Us) off the same album about the battle of Britenfeld would be a HELL of a song to react to as well.
Dunno if y'all can tell, this is a favorite album.
Sabaton - Winged Hussars next please
Just found you guys, I like you! keep it up!
Listen to Sabaton-Carolean's Prayer, or for better experience, listen to the swedish version, Karolinens Bön.
Great discussion. Great reaction. Awesome song!
Sabaton 40-1 live at woodstock!
The drummer from Sabaton, Hannes van Dhal has a daughter named Freja with Floor Jansen the current singer of Nightwish😎
Sabaton-Lion from the North,40:1,Uprising,Ghost Division
More sabaton pls
Vital Remains - Dechristianize
Also there is a band called Al-Namrood. Black metal from Saudi Arabia... Will you dare? :)
Charles was Protestant, Sweden had been for decades. The Protestant Church in Sweden used the Carolean Bible (that he had published) until 1917. King Charles XII was going by the Divine Right of Kings doctrine, as developed by James VI of Scotland as a protestant idea.
Decades? The Lutheran reformation in Sweden started in the 1520s with Gustav Vasa, so it was more like 150 years.
Celtic Frost
Dethroned Emperor or Procreation Of The Wicked
The swedish Carolean Battlecry at this timne was Got mit uns witch means God with us. Sweden at this time was a very religus country and one of the reasons why the caroleans was so feared on the battlefield was their religous fervor they showed, they went into every battle with the knowledge that god had preordained who would live and who would die beforehand.
