Keep in mind that the word ”empire” is a foreign label in this case. Officially, we were a kingdom throughout this who era. However, I guess we expanded enough to be considered an empire in the English language. We were considered a great power in Europe at the time though, hence the imperial label. In the first place, this is a lingustic issue. We technically have the word ”imperium”, but that’s a loan word, and is never really used when talking about Sweden. Similar to the German word ”reich”, we have a similar word; ”rike”. It very roughly translates into something close to ”realm”. Even today, the official name of Sweden is ”Konungariket Sverige”. Which breaks down to ”the Kingly Realm of Sweden”. Although, the correct translation is of course ”the Kingdom of Sweden”. If we were an empire, our country would be a ”kejsarrike” (instead of a konungarike) or a kejsardöme (which would be something like ”Ceasardom” in English). The word ”imperium” is more often used to talk about Rome, or overseas empires.
Jesus, man.. I gave you a follow for your fun reaction to some German memes and stuff already.. and now you start digging into that rabbit hole of my favourite metal guys, TOO??? If he came to power now we would call him a powerhungry megolomaniac, but at the time there was constant war in europe and he gained the throne at 15 so Sweden was seen as weak. But his military acompishments surprised everyone. He was a great wartime leader...but the the swedish population suffered under him.
It's not just one song but a whole album that they made in both Swedish and English and it's a song that you should listen to "En Livstis i Krig" but have subtitles on that song and also check Sabaton History for the songs (the have over 100 songs they go through the background of the songs) But you can check out Arch Enemy, which is also a good Swedish band
Well Carolus Rex/ Karl XII was the last king in the world to die in a battle. So no it was not common during this time at all. Before him we also got the second place in the world with Gustavus Adolphus/ Gustaf II Adolf in the year 1632 In fact it was not even that common in the medivil times for kings to die in battle.
Yeh, the last stand. In 3 years from now 500 years has past, imagine if they on May 6 2027 would play that song at the St. Peter’s square in front of the Basilica as a tribute to the Swiss guard.
Carolus was not 21 years old when he died, his time on the throne was 21 years but he died at 36. Still pretty young though.
Thank you , i made a mistake!

and learn the story behind this song Carol Rex as well as the stories behind other songs.
Länge leve Svea Rike! (Forza Milan btw)
Perhaps it was normal to become king fairly young because the previous king died early in war... just a guess 🤪😎🤘

As an Italian you need to react to sabaton song about Swiss guards that protect a Pope.
