    What is the chair with the pillow used for in the exercise?

    • @neurolasticinstitute424
      @neurolasticinstitute424  Год назад +7

      Having a chair nearby can help reduce the chance of falling while performing the exercise. The problem with doing balance exercises is the potential for a fall - so the chair is there to reduce the chance of that happening.

      When you walk with a normal gait pattern, you are standing on one leg with each step; People who "shuffle" walk without fully shifting their weight and do not stand on one leg. This exercise helps regain the ability to stand on one leg which is required to walk without shuffling.

    The video didn't address frequency or duration of the exercise. Here's something helpful the author said in response to a question down the list: This is one of those activities that just depend on the balance level of the person doing it. The simplest advice is to do this for 5 minutes 2-3 times a day. But for some, that is simply too much! Even doing this for 1 minute 1-2 x day can result in progress. Its not a strength exercise, so sets and reps aren't as important as increasing your skill in doing the activity. Sorry my video didn't explain that part.

    I read that our feet are a main sourse of balance information, with many senses on the sole of the foot. I've had vertigo for over a year ( it varies day to day), But every morning I get up, I swing my legs out together, while sitting on the edge of the bed, and do a little dance on the floor with my bare feet, before standing up. It helps to remove the sense of imbalance.

I'm 76 and can do both the standing on 1 leg one and this one, but want to improve it. I have cataracts and have to wait for 6 to 8 months for an operation to put new lenses in my eyes. Meanwhile, my vision is blurry and I feel sort of dizzy/disoriented. (No physical cause; CT scan and bloodwork fine.) So I want to improve my stability. Looking forward to watching all your proprioception videos. I love their simplicity and they give me a feeling of hope during my waiting time. Thank you So Much! Kathryn
