So when I was a kid I liked Monty Python and the Beatles. I was so confused when I randomly came across the Rutles. I was a kid so I didn't realize it was a parody. "These are like Beatles songs but that guy is from Monty Python, what's going on?" Well, today I learned that Eric Idle was involved with a parody of the Who's "Tommy" and it's absolutely brilliant.
That was painful to watch. The Rutles as corny as it is is more fun to watch. I'm a fan of Ken Russell's film as at the time of it's release it was pretty innovative but this video is below even the standards of The Flying Circus. Some might find it funny but I find it bland and cheesy to say the least.
@@charleslenz9634 I agree, the video wasn't that great. It had a really funny concept- the film being so loud it makes Pommy deaf, dumb, and blind- but not the budget to properly carry out the various ' Russelisms' But, the soundtrack was excellent.
Neil Innes was a master of music parody, funny enough to be an obvious piss-take and serious enough to be genuinely enjoyable.
Neil Innes was a flipping musical genius.
Its one thing to parody Ken Russell/TOMMY
Not that hard.
But to accurately recreate the MUSICAL style of the background score is truly amazing!
Fairwell Neil Innes, you were great. RIP
'Cheese and Onions' is my favorite.
I like it too, in the back of my mind. But did you really need to spell it out?
RIP Neil Innes.
Ann Melbourne as a tin of baked beans 😂😂😂
“I got what it take so I’ll take what it’s got.” 😆
just love the faces eric idle pulls
LOL
This is not a parody of the Who or the rock opera Tommy….This is a BRILLIANT parody of film maker KEN RUSSELL…..lolol

Eric Idle seems to turn into a proto Alan Partridge at the end there
Roger Dull 😂😂😂😂😂 we all miss you Neil
I forgot to watch the video. The song stands up on it's own.
" Concrete Jungle Boy" seems to be more a parody of a song from
" Quadraphenia".
Whaddya think?
Basically Ken Russell's Tomy in a nutshell!
Fist time i saw this I flipped. So cool that Neil spoofed the Who.
Ive never seen this show.
Thanks for posting!❤
jajajá Llegué hasta aquí, gracias a la banda californiana, Toad The Wet Sprocket! 😅
Better than the real movie.
Love the film. Saw it numerous times in " catatonic" sound!
Holy moley. That actually does sound like Daltry.
“We’ve got The Who at home”
The Who at home:
Great fun!
So Eric Idle's doing Barry Norman?
😂😂😂
A decent Moon impression on drums, but the bass line is poor for an Entwistle sound-alike, a rare (and tiny) miss by Innes
Moon and Entwhistle only played on a few of the TOMMY tracks. It's faithful to the studio musicians who did most of the playing
Idle overdid Ken Russell easily

You're a lot of fun at parties, aren't you Charles?
@@BenVarkentine a lot more fun than that film
