      @@allanbard6048 - I was invited to participate in a Rutles tribute album, so I sang “Cheese and Onions” in a Kermit the Frog voice, accompanied by a banjo. It was silly, but great fun.

      Reminds me of the rumour that 2/4 of them hated the cover for "Meet The Residents" but one or 2 (I believe it might've been McCartney or Harrison) who loved the cover so much they purchased a copy.

      Mine was on the inner sleeve of the soundtrack record. They advertised other albums- one was Crosby,Stills, Nash, Young, Gifted and Black.

      I’ve seen The Rolling Stones in concert three times, and even though that’s not my favorite band (for me, that’s The Who), Mick Jagger is an excellent “front man” and an excellent showman. When he’s in, he’s all in 100%.

    I remember back in 1978 when I Must Be In Love was being played on the wireless, I convinced one of my mates that it was a comeback song from the Beatles. He fell for it and went to Rumbelows and asked the girl in the record department for the new Beatles single .......
    Next time I saw him he called me all kinds of names but said he bought the Rutles single and he loved it.

    Apparently, John had to warn Neil Innes that the music was too close to the originals and may bring copyright suits. That's why not all the songs from the show were included on the accompanying album. Other than that, the Lennons loved it. They even kept the copy they were given to preview.
    Years later, I saw a bootleg album of rare Beatles recordings that included Cheese And Onions as a claimed "lost track"!

      It was 'Get up and go' song wich was too much like 'Get Back'. After Lennon's warning they creditet it to Lennon-McCartney-Innes.

    This was on television when I was on my lunch break when I was working 2nd shift. I got back to work late because I couldn't walk away from it. In those days you didn't get repeats. When I got back to work my supervisor read me the riot act but it was worth it.

    I love it all. The apex for me, beyond meeting 3 out of 4 Rutles was seeing one of the greatest Beatles tribute acts - The Fab Four as the Rutles in a live performance at a small theatre in NYC with extra filmed clips of celebrities talking about the Rutles influence on pop culture. One of the most unique, greatest, entertaining and funniest things I have ever had the privilege to witness.

      At a Beatles convention in Liverpool several years ago I saw Neil Innes perform as Ron Nasty in The Cavern with a support act called The Bootleg Rutles. It was brilliant!

    Neil Innes knew the Beatles catalog inside and out, which is why his parodies are so good; they are accurate. John Lennon reportedly loved the group. George, Eric Idle's good friend, was in All You Need Is Cash. Paul McCartney may have been less overt in his appreciation of the parodies.

    From what I gather, Paul has never made any public comment on The Rutles.
    According to Eric Idle, he met the McCartney's not too long after the film came out and Paul was quite stand offish/defensive and said to him "I'm not sure I should be talking to you..."

    George was a major backer for Neal Innes' Rutland Weekend Television & the Rutles afterwards, as well as several Monty Python movie projects (including Terry Gilliam's Time Bandits). The Serious Beatle had much more of a sense of humour than most would ever realise!

    I remember the "rutlemania" in the 60's. I was one of their fans. Then another band named the beatles came out and made a kind of boring copies of many Rutles songs.

      Was it John? I know it was suggested to Neil Innes to use Get Up And Go for the film, but not to include it in the album. There is not much known about John, except that he kept the VHS tape they sent him for approval (coz he loved it!).

    Lately, I can't stop listening to the Rutles. I Must Be in Love is as catchy as anything the Beatles ever wrote, even though I guess they sort of wrote it.

    The fact that Yoko is portrayed as Hitler's daughter and she still loved The Rutles gives me newfound respect for her. That said, I always wondered what the Beatles thought of the Mosquitos from Gilligan's Island.

      @@mombaassa I just looked them up. Unlike The Mosquitos the Bed Bugs looked like they never picked up an instrument in their lives. LOL The Mosquitos were played by the Wellington's who sang the Gilligan's Island theme.
