      A Wikia article had this to say about that other band:
      The Beatles were a Rutles parody band and the only one recognized by Rutle Corps. The Beatles are comprised of John Lennon(Nasty) Paul McCartney(Dirk) George Harrison(Stig) and Ringo Starr(Barry). All The Beatles, just as the Rutles, were born and raised in Liverpool. Although being praised by Dirk, Stig and Barry, Nasty has been quoted as saying "God do those idiots have nothing better to do."
      The Rutles considered suing the Beatles in 1966 for copyright infringement but were too tired that day.

      I thought it was "I'm dancin' with Samantha Peel, cor ain't she surreal!" Samantha Peel was, of course, the early character name concept for who eventually became "Emma Peel" on 'The Avengers' (or was it 'The Offenders'?), Dirk and Nasty's favorite TV show in the 60s. Stig hated it, though. He used to turn the sound down on it and say rude things.

    Leave it to these creative superstars to turn a children's nursery rhyme into an excellent song. I just lost it when the bit with Eric Idle as the reporter who had to run into a full gallop when the tv truck sped up, appeared on Saturday Night Live. Little did I know then that two hours of such comedy would be enjoyed later. And of course to close the monumental docudrama from his hospital bed, the reporter Idle asked Mick Jagger if he thought the Rutles would reunite the quick reply of, "I hope not"

    Regardless, genuine kudos to the late, great Neil Innes for this as it is by no means easy to parody a parody (I.e. the wonderfully irreverent ‘I Am The Walrus’). Even harder to do it _well_ ...

      Steveo L No, he actually sang "E burres stigano", which before Google Translate, was thought to be very bad spanish for "Have you a water buffalo?". With Google Translate we can now see it was just Ron Nasty using nonsense words in the manner of Edward Lear.

    • @clasystems
      @clasystems 9 лет назад +2

      +Steveo L Actually, it's in the movie; no need to embellish with Google references. Idle [as Melvin Hall, we find out his name in the second movie] just explains it exactly as SuperNeville has it sans Google references.
      Barry isn't dead, he wanted to become two hairdressers, honestly. [He did wind up having two hairdressing shops, honestly.]

    • @SuperNevile
      @SuperNevile 9 лет назад +4

      +clasystems Actually, the rumour regarding Stig's death, originally came out of "clues" in Sgt Rutter lyrics. Apparently someone thought if you sang "Sergeant Rutter's Lonely Darts Club Band" backwards it was supposed to sound like "Stig has been dead for ages honestly", as intimated by Steveo L above. In fact it sounds uncannily like "dnab bulc strad ylno srettur tnaesgres". Barry's death rumour came from the fact that he stayed in bed for a year as a tax dodge. The Rutles press officer, thought that Barry had either received appalling financial advice or he was desperately trying to start a "Barry is also dead" rumour.....honestly.

    When I listen to this song on the CD, at the 3:20 mark, a woman's voice says "Paul McCartney". One almost has to have earphones on, but I always notice the name being spoken. The narrative is only on one side in stereo, but the rest of her speaking is not audible. . . . . Amazing how many levels are present in the Rutles' paradies.
