Based on what I've read and seen on various sourced (GTA Forums, YT), Shoreside Vale development is quite rushed. That is why we see things like non-solid hills and observatory. Perhaps the developers intended to put in a small countryside behind the tunnel, but plans were abandoned bcos they had to meet the deadline of finishing and/or releasing GTA 3.
Yep. There was a lot of stuff planned for GTA 3 but i guess we weren't lucky to have all of it complete in the game. Leaves much to wonder, doesn't it.
Rockstar have stated the tunnel was put there to make Liberty City seem bigger than it actually is. Every city has a point in which you can leave it. They decided to have a fake exit to achieve this.
@@Fireglo but if you look at the minimap you see how the road of both tunnels continues straight to the end of the map, when in reality looking at the tunnels it seems that they go to the right / left.

I remember the first time I played LCS after knowing these tunnels were originally blocked in 3. I thought all the mysteries were about to be solved lol...
Well my explanation. The tunnel is in upstate Liberty. The ghost town is too in upstate Liberty. As we can hear in lips 106 radio. We can notice that the carcer city (manhunt 1 city. Manhunt is released by Rockstar games) is actually close so it might be from where this might be the tunnel to carcer city. But obviously they were not going to make that city. But obviously these tunnels are made like they are heading to carcer city

Well I think there must have been a plan to add the ghost town in the map and maybe connect it via this tunnel because as you showed , it's still under construction , it means it was under development but it was abandoned for some reason idk why It would have been a better ending if Claude had killed Catalina in the ghost town
In GTA LCS it was revealed that the two tunnels that were blocked off in 3 are connected, however there is a road between them that is blocked off with a sign that says "Upstate" confirming that there's still an unseen area out there. My guess is it leads to a whole other district where "Ghost Town" and the Liberty City Bank is located.
Play GTA Liberty City Stories, you'll see the tunnel is open and the two entrances connect exactly like you showed on your video. There is, in LCS, an exit in the middle of the tunnel going towards where the ghost town would be in GTA 3 that is under construction
The reason why it got under construction is because in lcs there is a mission called 'bringing the house down' here is the biggest explosion in gta history maybe thats what destroyed it.
Yeah that's why the hospital (which is just near the tunnel and the destroyed sights )didn't get destroyed but the tunnel which is on the other side of the next island got destroyed and also nothing happened to the ceadar grove 😂😂😂🤡🤡🤡

This tunnel is in gta Lcs connecting Cochrane dam to Cedar Grove. This tunnel connect Liberty city to Upstate liberty but we can't access to Upstate Liberty.
It's not under construction. You can see where it leads in LCS. You can enter it and exit through the other entrance, they're connected, and inside there's a turn which is also blocked off, probably leading to the ghost town where the Liberty City bank is.

No one thought that in LCS tbe tunnel was partially complete, since the entire tunnel in that time were not totally cemented, compared to that in GTAIII. I assume that the tunnel in GTAIII were closed to complete the tunnel by cementing, and maybe to include finishing cement also in Upstate part.
Apperantly Rockstar was supposed to add a 4th island but they didnt had time to add more missions and the 4th island was not finnished which resulting in the ghost town
Does anyone know what the program in game code is for the Shoreside Vale tunnel? I want to take away the invisible barrier in GTA Underground as there's IPL files of a highway that starts inside that tunnel but I can't access it because the original tunnel files is still in place so the is not accessible
In contrast to GTA: Vice City, to me, I always firmly believe that those tunnels would serve to give me at least a measurable amount of feasibility of: "How the folks of Liberty City escape the city proper by car towards to other parts of the USA, and people from outside Liberty City enter the city proper by car." Whereas Vice City is pretty much an island city (Like probably a few kilometers off the coast of Florida?), which is probably the only thing I don't like about GTA: Vice City.
Guys I have a hypothesis about that. After Claud and Catalina robbed the bank, Catalina tried to kill her boyfriend but it seems she didn't well. So she decided to instruct her band to end up this. But the band was stupid and just couldn't do that, they was planning to kill Claud when he was in the tunnel using tnt. Well it doesn't seem to be worked and next try was on Callahan bridge but with other band where gta 3 starts.
I thought the "ghost" town was just the setting of the intro cinematic. You can also reach it using a dodo. Pretty sure they put it there on purpose as an easter egg.
@Ivoireee I'm not really an expert of game programming, but couldn't they just have put it in a different file and load it only during the cutscene, while keeping it separated from the actual world of the game?

I think there's a mission in LCS where you need to plant a few bombs, i assume that the tunnel is closed due to major repairs from the bombs.

There's a mod which creates a bridge to the ghost town, but I've not seen a tunnel one, it would make it easier to get to it though 😊
