I've experienced severe turbulence before when the plane was trying to descend through severe gusty wind conditions. The entire plane felt like it was going to crush, with severe bumps, shaking back and forth, rocking side to side, ups and down dropping like a roller coaster, knocking all the food trays off the shelves. Everyone was so scared, and I wouldn't stop praying to God the entire time. It was so severe that I was still shaken up even after we landed and on our entire 3 hr car ride back home. I had a panic attack. All the passengers on our flight also thought we were going to crash and die. I can only imagine what this flight went through 😢.

Turbulences are usually uncommon, when they do happen, it's more of light or moderate where injuries are still not too common [maybe a few bumps but nothing serious, sometime moderate turbulence can cause injuries]. Severe turbulence are quite rare since pilots would usually avoid regions where they believe turbulence will occur.
In this case, it might be clear air turbulence where it was unexpected and to make things worst, it's a severe type.
That is why seat belts should be on whenever you are seated even if the seat belt lights are off. You can still go to the toilet, take a short walk to stretch your legs, etc, as necessary since turbulence don't happen all the time or throughout the whole flight.

Tracking data captured by FlightRadar24 and analysed by The Associated Press showed the Singapore Airlines flight cruising at an altitude of 37,000 feet. Just after 0800 GMT, the Boeing 777 suddenly and sharply pitched down to 31,000 feet over the span of some three minutes, the data shows.
The aircraft stayed at 31,000 feet for just under 10 minutes before rapidly descending and landing in Bangkok .

@@scienceevolves4417 The Singapore Airlines Flight #SQ321 experienced severe turbulence over Myanmar's Irrawaddy Basin, causing a 7000 feet drop in about three minutes. Such a steep fall is not normal and can lead to injuries among passengers.
The flight departed from London Heathrow Airport and was en route to Singapore's Changi Airport when the incident occurred.
The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft made an unscheduled landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok at approximately 3:58 p.m. local time
Bangkok is in the UTC+7 time zone, which is 7 hours ahead of GMT
Therefore, the turbulence likely occurred sometime before 3:58 p.m. Bangkok time, which would be before 8:58 GMT (3:58 PM Bangkok time - 7 hours = 8:58 AM GMT)
The exact time is not provided, but it was likely around 8:00 GMT or shortly before.
