Should kids learn to use knives, fires, and dangerous items?

With our 4 kids, we have always lived on the side of teaching our kids a healthy respect and caution for all things dangerous. Letting them use these tools has helped each of them explore them in a safe environment. Have they gotten hurt? Yes. But very minimally and it has reinforced the need to be safe and cautious but not overwhelmingly fearful.
