Oh and that stow doorway is absolutely beautiful I seriously need to visit that
Yes, Polaroid cameras are so fun! I look forward to visiting Puzzlewood as well when we are living in Cheltenham this summer. I've heard it is a cool place! In the Forest of Dean they have pasties they call Foggies. Because the Cornish term for pasty is Oggy and the F is for Forest of Dean ;-) I have a playlist of our favourite places we have visited in Gloucestershire. Dara & Ian. Again a great video. Surprising to see you in “snow” as we have had two named storms this week. Earlier it was storm “Dudley” now we are at the closing of storm “Eunice”. Our storms are named by our Met Office and as with hurricanes are named alternately with male and female names. Storm Eunice was given a RED warning because of the high winds, the first in the 20 years that storms have been made. The Red warning covered S Wales and the SW of England, I think Cheltenham was just between the SW Red area and the London Red warning are but remains at an Amber alert. Luckily the severity of the storm has declined. I think you were lucky that the name of the first storm was male. It wouldn’t have been nice if it had been called “Dara”! The next to begin with I will be female so Ian gets an OK this time!
Phew! So glad that Dara and Ian avoided being names of storms! Although Ian probably thinks that I'm stormy enough at times to have a hurricane named after me ;-)
@@MagentaOtterTravels On one of your travels check out Yew Tree central at Powis Castle Welshpool. The trees there are jaw dropping . Its the oldest Barogue garden in the UK. Xx
How cool that you had a professional "kiwi" photographer happen along at just the right moment to snap the two of you in front of that Hobbit-like doorway!! Great story! Also, I need to know what flavor ice cream cone Ian had -- important info for us ice cream freaks! 🍦😋
I think on that occasion it was strawberries and cream. It was a hot day. Perfect for ice cream. Look out for Dara's video on Burford in a couple of weeks which will show a bunch of Cotswold ice cream flavors.
The Cotswolds have some lovely flavours of local ice cream. As Ian said, I show more up close in my Burford video in a couple weeks... one in which DARA actually ate some ice cream too!!! haha
Epidemic Sound. I have tried really hard to get great music on a few of my videos. I'm really proud of the results on 3 of my recent vlogs (including this one where the lyrics were PERFECT!)... but usually I work on it for ages and then give up. Music is so hard to do well!!
@@MagentaOtterTravels Ah, thank you. Others have also recommended Epidemic Sound. You are absolutely right, music is so hard to do well, and we really struggle with it - particularly when we only use the Audio Lab. You were spot on this time, Dara! Brilliant!
You filmed my favorite cheese Merry Wyfe!!! It's made from milk that isn't pasteurized so it can't be imported into the USA for sale here but it can be bought there and shipped here from The Cotswold Cheese Company website. It's a cider washed rind cheese so the cider is what makes for a Merry Wyfe. I love Stow despite it's tourist side. But hey when I've been there I was a tourist and it seems to me that with the exception of parking they have great tourist infrastructure.
@@MagentaOtterTravels Oh yes!! I know y'all aren't big alcohol drinkers but for those who are and happen to find themselves in Gloucestershire do yourselves a favor and buy Stinking Bishop cheese to go along with your Scrumpy. It'll be a lot easier to find the cheese but the unfiltered hard cider Scrumpy is something you have to buy and consume where it is made in the apple orchards. It's not able to be sold outside of certain specially licensed places where you buy it from the person who made it.
Hey why don't y'all make contact with Viscountess Hinchingbrooke? I know it might seem like a crazy idea but why not if that's a video that could be of interest?? I'm a big fan of her channel American Viscountess and their other channel. I have a feeling that if you'd be interested and the stars aligned in just the right way you'd be able to get some amazing content there. And I'm certain that you'd you'd be able to find plenty of magenta there as well!! Hey like I said: It's a crazy idea but why not?
@@MagentaOtterTravels You'll never know unless you make the decision to ask!! What's the worst thing that could happen? An extremely polite no thank you. I have a feeling that they might like publicity from up and coming American RUclipsrs. Especially from folks that are of our certain age who are able to afford more than just the plane ticket.
Great video again. Would you say that Stow has gotten more touristy in the pandemic whilst everyone ‘stays in the U.K.?’ - just wondering as it looked as mental as Bourton in the first shots. Love that you had a pro photo in the door!! Great drone footage as always. We loved the old stocks! I’d have popped Wills in there!! Thanks for sharing once again. 🍻
Wills looks like he occasionally needs a bit of a time out in the stocks ;-) I think that the Cotswolds and Cornwall and other touristy areas ended up with more British visitors than usual in 2020 and 2021... but certainly far fewer international ones! But also I'm sure tourism is down in general. So many places (like the lovely church here) were closed due to the pandemic. Thanks for watching!
It’s really hard to watch your videos and not just want to cancel all our plans and head to the UK! It’s just so beautiful! Fatface!😱 Is that near the chocolate store???
That is very kind of you to say, but you have some really amazing plans! And yes, I think Fatface should be by the chocolate store!😂 Excellent suggestion!
I'm from the Canadian province of Saskatchewan originally, and there are a number of hamlets that literally have no services; no gas station, store or anything. Just a handful of houses. My last name is Flook, which is not a common name. But I've read that Gloucestershire is where my name originates. Have you encountered this name in your travels? I'm actually waiting on my 23 And Me results as we speak!
Let me know when your results come in! I have not seen that name before in Gloucestershire, but now I know the story behind your RUclips channel name! Love it! ❤️
Of course, I have enjoyed your video!! But I have to admit, although the architecture of Stow-on-the Wold is really beautiful and it has some amazing spots, it is until now my least favourite place. It seems too crowded.
Agree. It is far too crowded. I also wish that they would make these towns and villages car free. It would really make the ambience better. Instead, the market square in Stowe is basically a giant parking lot.
You are picking up on EXACTLY what I wanted to show... the Cotswolds have a range of places in them. If you only go to the touristy places like Bourton and Stow, you miss out on the quiet little villages (that are our favourites too!) where you feel like you have literally walked back in time 4 centuries! Thanks for your comment, my friend! XX
@@ians3586 I am mixed on this Ian, I would love to see cars excluded from much of our urban spaces, I think that will happen over time. Like you, I would like to see town squares given back to people or greenery. However I also recognise that these places are real living places not theme park's. There is a village in Kent, Goudhurst, that would be a tourist honeypot, but as it is, it is ruined by heavy traffic on narrow roads not designed for motor vehicles. LGV's regularly bash the church yard walls, the whole village needs a bypass.
It's got nothing to do with this video but I thought you might be interested, have you watched the video from The Dodo, Otter Mums Wrap Their Babies in Seaweed Blankets, it's from a month ago. It's a great little video and if you haven't seen it you should watch it as you're an Otter lover!
Stow like Moreton in the Marsh, Cirencester and Tetbury etc are not Cotswold Villages, They qualify as Towns as do most places that have post offices. A pub and a church.
@@MagentaOtterTravels Some great north Cotswold Villages Include Warmington Mollington and Edge Hill (Battle) all between Banbury and Warwick....give em a go.
Dara, you need to stop standing in the entrances of Devil Doors. as one day, a big hairy clawed hand might pull you in. lol now be honest .... how much did you spend in the cheese shop? I know from my own experience, that I always walking out with a wheel or full block of cheese, rather than the wedge I went in for. that is why I had to stop shopping in the supermarket with the cheese counter. now I just go to a different one, that just sells prepacked cheese.
But wouldn't that make GREAT footage for a vlog if Ian was filming and a monstrous beast appeared from behind the door?! Sadly, I bought no cheese that day. We got so much sunny Cotswold footage because we dashed all over the countryside filming in many locations per day. So I didn't want the lovely cheese to ruin sitting in a hot car :-(
@@MagentaOtterTravels Yes I do. I also deliver there for Waitrose and last year it snowed a wee bit but nothing to get your shovel out for. And this year nothing much at all.

@@MagentaOtterTravels On one of your travels check out Yew Tree central at Powis Castle Welshpool. The trees there are jaw dropping . Its the oldest Barogue garden in the UK. Xx
@@terencewilliams789 oh that sounds intriguing!
As Ian said, I show more up close in my Burford video in a couple weeks... one in which DARA actually ate some ice cream too!!! haha
Nice city
Big like from Jakarta
👍 Thanks
Those Yews were stunning, I can imagine Tolkien being inspired by them. Great video! The MOT tribe! 👍
Haha, yes it is a magical doorway! ;-)
@@MagentaOtterTravels looks like the Gates of Moria! 👍
So nice to see after the storm that we had yesterday. Fortunately, we did not have much damage, only some electric fencing blown down.
Glad to hear that the damage wasn't severe. I hate to hear about gales in the UK because trees are precious there.
I'm glad that you are OK! Some of the footage in Britain of Eunice looked really scary!
It was quite scary, we are in the east so not as badly hit as the west of the country.
@@lizbignell7813 I saw some stunningly scary footage from Cornwall! And I know our family in Wales and Herfordshire had high winds.😳
Aw, love those little stuffed sheep - so cute! 🐑❤
They were pretty cute! I’m sure Layla would like to have one 🐑
@@MagentaOtterTravels Haha, she would! Not sure the little sheep would stay looking pristine for too long!
@@The_Brit_Girls definitely not! That Layla is a terror 🤣
That was so nice of this New Zealand guy to take a photo of you. But your footage and your photos are even better quality!!!
Well, he did use MY camera, and not his professional camera ;-)
@@MagentaOtterTravels So then you are a better photographer than he is!! As your footage is better with the same camera.
Your British travel vids never disappoint.👍
Why thank you very much! I thought Ian's drone photography was especially good in Stow! Cheers! XX Dara
I really liked the music. Where do you source your music from?
Epidemic Sound. I have tried really hard to get great music on a few of my videos. I'm really proud of the results on 3 of my recent vlogs (including this one where the lyrics were PERFECT!)... but usually I work on it for ages and then give up. Music is so hard to do well!!
@@MagentaOtterTravels Ah, thank you. Others have also recommended Epidemic Sound. You are absolutely right, music is so hard to do well, and we really struggle with it - particularly when we only use the Audio Lab. You were spot on this time, Dara! Brilliant!
Hi maam have a great day
You too
❤❤❤
Cheers!
Beautiful video!! Love the music and the drone shots were spectacular! Bravo Dara! What’s better than chocolate & cheese? 😂~Cara
The chocolate shop and the cheese shop both had really yummy looking products!!
I think Merry Wyfe is one of my favourite cheese names. Though Stinking Bishop is still my most favourite ;-)
Hey like I said:
It's a crazy idea but why not?
@@christianoliver3572 it’s a kind idea… but not sure my little channel is big enough to collab with her 😉
@@MagentaOtterTravels You'll never know unless you make the decision to ask!!
What's the worst thing that could happen?
An extremely polite no thank you.
I have a feeling that they might like publicity from up and coming American RUclipsrs.
Especially from folks that are of our certain age who are able to afford more than just the plane ticket.
lolol, no snow in STOW... It never really snows here. If maybe an inch.. but it melds within a 1-2 days.
Too bad! Stow would be pretty with a dusting of new fallen snow ❄️
Just leave me in the cheese shop 😉😋😋
I get it!! Looked amazing 💕🧀
These chocolates look so yummy!!! Luckily Philippe has not been there.....otherwise "closed for stock shortage" 😬🤣
haha, the answer for 2022 to everything... "supply chain issues". We need to have some Belgian chocolate when we meet Philippe!
Plenty of little Philippes hanging in the window of Lambswold. His last name is "Mouton" and that's the French word for lamb/sheep 👍
why am I just now learning this?!?! He should be a big fan of the Cotwolds! ;-)
@@MagentaOtterTravels Oh yes, he would!
Wills looks like he occasionally needs a bit of a time out in the stocks ;-)
I think that the Cotswolds and Cornwall and other touristy areas ended up with more British visitors than usual in 2020 and 2021... but certainly far fewer international ones! But also I'm sure tourism is down in general. So many places (like the lovely church here) were closed due to the pandemic. Thanks for watching!
Quick pause…Ian is the only one who never ages!!!! I want what he is taking! 😂
He does age... he looked 14 when we got married... even though he was 26! But yes, he still looks WAY younger than he is!
That is what having a wonderful wife will do to you… said lan!!
@@lizbignell7813 THANKS LIZ!!! 😘
@@lizbignell7813 life is definitely less stressful when you have a good partner. I am very fortunate to have found that in Dara.
Do I really need to make a comment about the first few seconds of your video? 😂💜💜😂
We just need to say that my lovely wife is beautiful in front of the magenta flowers.
Did you buy the hedgehog socks?
Nope. I already have a couple pairs I never wear ;-)
@@MagentaOtterTravels Ha minimalist 😉
@@wencireone PRECISELY!
Unfortunately we couldn't get into the church.
Closed due to covid. Too bad!! I even went to the town hall to find out if there were any times it was open... no luck.
@@MagentaOtterTravels Ok, thanks for the info. I was wondering why you did not go in.
Love it! ❤️
@@MagentaOtterTravels I will! I think it will show a lot of British, German, and Icelandic (which shows up as Norwegian in DNA tests typically).
Great aerial shots Dara! Do you use a drone?
Yep, my hubby Ian is the drone pilot. I would be hopeless! He has a DJI Mavic air. It’s a bit old now, but still gets the job done!
@@MagentaOtterTravels Awesome!
@@ians3586 Yes, I agree. These tons of cars destroy the ambiance.
Do you have your own website called "where can I find magenta flowers" 😉
No, I just have built in radar. I can spot magenta flowers from a mile away... just like Ian can sense the presence of ice cream or jam donuts. ;-)
@@MagentaOtterTravels yes, I see they've started to follow him around 😉🍦🚲
@@wencireone Somethings shocking happens in the Burford video. I got an ice cream cone as well! 😳
It's got nothing to do with this video but I thought you might be interested, have you watched the video from The Dodo, Otter Mums Wrap Their Babies in Seaweed Blankets, it's from a month ago. It's a great little video and if you haven't seen it you should watch it as you're an Otter lover!
I think I saw that one. The dodo does have some adorable videos!
Stow like Moreton in the Marsh, Cirencester and Tetbury etc are not Cotswold Villages, They qualify as Towns as do most places that have post offices. A pub and a church.
Yes it is indeed a busy market town! I do enjoy visiting the towns occasionally… Though I rather prefer the villages 😉
@@MagentaOtterTravels Some great north Cotswold Villages Include Warmington Mollington and Edge Hill (Battle) all between Banbury and Warwick....give em a go.
Dara, you need to stop standing in the entrances of Devil Doors. as one day, a big hairy clawed hand might pull you in. lol
now be honest .... how much did you spend in the cheese shop? I know from my own experience, that I always walking out with a wheel or full block of cheese, rather than the wedge I went in for. that is why I had to stop shopping in the supermarket with the cheese counter. now I just go to a different one, that just sells prepacked cheese.
But wouldn't that make GREAT footage for a vlog if Ian was filming and a monstrous beast appeared from behind the door?!
Sadly, I bought no cheese that day. We got so much sunny Cotswold footage because we dashed all over the countryside filming in many locations per day. So I didn't want the lovely cheese to ruin sitting in a hot car :-(
Sorry to disappoint you but it doesn’t snow that much.
Haha that’s what I thought! Do you live near Stow?
@@MagentaOtterTravels Yes I do. I also deliver there for Waitrose and last year it snowed a wee bit but nothing to get your shovel out for. And this year nothing much at all.
Only you could travel 4700 miles and meet someone who is 11500 miles from home ( approx miles )
Hopeless #extrovert
