the north american fellow must be pleased with his motor. I was pleased when my motor kicked into life immediately after fitting Kelvins wiring loom tidy up. The engine had been sitting for years.
I've been following you since last year when I went down a 2uzfe rabbit hole. Im so glad I found it. With these videos and the wealth of knowledge, experience and information you provide gives me the courage to attempt a 1uzfe swap in a 4runner (USA) later this year. I'm finishing up a 3.0 to 3.4 in a '90 Toyota pickup. Once I'm done im going to look for a 3 gen 4runner and attempt the swap. 1uzfe engines (non vvti and vvti) are still pretty easy to come by here. Thank you again.
Not so useless info after all. I've been wondering why my early 1uz vvti starts and stops. At first I was blaming immobiliser but after basic OBD2 scan I didn't find any immo related codes. Took me some time to figure out that just placing MAF sensor in front of a throttlebody is not enough. Took a random 1L bottle to make a tube out of it, placed MAF inside the tube and taped it directly to the throttle body. Now it idles just fine. Mystery solved :D
My head is full of useless information until its not useless , as you now know. Yes the AFM does actually need to sense the flow of the air. Cheers Kelvin
Thanks once again for the info...top notch. Could you one day talk about fuel pressure on the 1uz non-vvti and vvti engines. Curious to know what stock fuel pressure should look like, and maybe recommend fuel pressure for a boosted setup too. The oil pressure vid you had previously was very informative.
I have a vvti. Dosnt have any codes and runs good. But when your reving it up loads is sometimes loses Revs. Can tell the throttle is still open as you can hear the induction still. Stops when you take your foot off and can then get back on it again. Hard to explain. The only thing I can think of is Meby the air maf sensor. Will try and up load a video of it
Ok. You asked about the piggyback too. Definitely don't fit a piggyback to any setup with a known issue as a maybe it will fix it. It generally causes even more issues. Spending some time looking at the live data to monitor whats going on is a big part of sorting out an issue like this. Live data may give a hint of where to test next. Cheers Kelvin
By standard transmission do you mean standard 1uz transmission or standard transmission from the 4 runner? And if meaning 4 runner transmission are you meaning transmission or gearbox??
Correct , UCF20 vvti afm is same sensor as the GS300 jzs160. Im not sure if they run the same size body though. The later 1uz and 3uz use the same sensor as heaps of other toyota cars and the body it mounts into is different. That way they can use the same sensor on a 1.5 yaris as a 4.3 LS430/Celsior. Cheers Kelvin
Are you referring to the main camshaft position sensor or the vvti cam position sensors? All should throw a code if they fail. Maybe discribe the knock or flick me a video on my Facebook messenger company page. Cheers

Far from useless
Some of us have a M1uz in our Toyota epic boats your videos give me hope

Yes. Once I get an opportunity to do one and have a suitable job there will be a fuel pressure video. Cheers Kelvin

@@CartuneNZ thanks I will see if I can find anything on the live data and let you know.
What kind of real world fuel economy you think i would get with the 1uz vs the 1uz vvit in a first gen 4runner? With a standard transmission

Curious i noticed the maf sensor looks similar to a 98 lexus gs300 maf (2jz-ge)

What bolt on's can I buy for my 1998 lexus gs400? In America theirs not much aftermarket here for the 1uzfe
Headers
There may be headers over there. We dont really worry about lack of bolt ons as we make parts custom as required.
Will a bad camshaft position sensor cause a knock / ticking noise in bank 2 in the 1uzfe vvti ?

@@CartuneNZ to me it sounds like a lifter tick but I will send you a video on facebook messenger. Cheers !
@@4wdaddict41 ok. 1uz have bucket and shims for tappet adjustment not hydraulic. Ill look out for your video
@@CartuneNZ thank you
