@cuchulainn3474 You make three assumptions with which I disagree, which go deeper than the subject we discuss. Why would you assume, people will always compare to original? Of course that is not true! Original songs often get forgotten. New people are born, new generations are introduced to songs from it's third or fourth performer not even realising they sing a cover (for example many people think "when a man loves a woman" is Michael Bolton's song ). Next weird assumption you make is, that an artist should always please the crowd...I see no reason why a singer should aim at pleasing the crowd, not many artists do that, to be honest most of them are rebelious in nature and work hard to make something distinctive. And final assumption I think you are wrong to make is that you think people do not appreciate a version that is different from the original. I think that cannot be the case, as the simplest proof of that would be the Disturbed version of Sound of Silence. Totally different version, huge success. I'd argue people love especially those covers, which present some new light and fresh look at the song. But you know, your philosophy always gets reflected in your art, and in your results. I'm sure your philosophical assumptions of your art serve you well, you don't have to listen to me.
@cuchulainn3474 To me, this just sounds like the only purpose in singing is to impress and receive respect from others. If that is a person's only purpose in making art, it is not art. It is not joy. It is a vanity project whose only purpose is validation. Making art our own is the whole point. These songs are only great because of the personal passion that is put in the lyrics, the instrumental, the performance. Those are PERSONAL. They were not copied. Believe whatever you will, but there's a reason Paul Rodgers, Robert Plant, Ian Gillan, Lou Gramm, and Freddie Mercury are famous and you're not. They made art. Not because they wanted to copy others and look impressive, but because they wanted to express their own unique feelings and perspectives and find catharsis in sharing it with others.

Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
