It's a scam. I've been on dating sites for 10 years with hardly anything to show for it. I paid for a whole year of Premium features for OkCupid and I did not have success. What's worse is before I could even cancel it, they stole the money for an entire other years' payment! Yet another reason why we need communism.
@@andyroo7206 I am! I decided to stop waiting for someone and married myself. Though it's probably headed for divorce since the laundry is piling up and we don't go on dates no more.
As a straight male, this is actually pretty interesting to hear. Literally every single gender, sexual preference, we’re ALL struggling with modern dating? This shit is crazy.
It's a different struggle. That being said being a straight dude is way harder on dating apps than being a chick. Not to say chicks don't have struggles in dating.
ya, i made a hinge account because ive been out of the dating scene after my last relationship for like 4 years. its my first time on a dating app ever and holy shit the narcissism, flakiness, people message me but no response when i msg back. I probably skipped on 30% of the women because of videos showing off their booty in yoga shorts and degen stuff like that. literally it just feels stupid to use the app lol
As a lesbian here, I think every different genders struggles here. Even Hinge seems like the most serious one, much likely to meet better people compared to other dating apps. My experiences so far are quite horrible, I used it for 2 months now, only 30% people replied to my messages. If u luckily got them agreed on meet up, I experienced 5 girls canceled it on last minute. ( Any ridiculous excuses they can come up with: my bestie’s grandpa passed away, Knees not feeling well, mental issues breakdown, etc) 😂 Even you guys really met up, just a bunch of narcissist, arrogant, rude people. I met up six girls so far, only one person is nice and friendly. And the rest of them, just no spark at all. “ Sometimes some people are single because they got their serious issues, they are like hot mess!” I think going to events is so much likely to meet up decent people, definitely not on dating apps.
The reason why it seems bad for gay males is because the top 80% of men go for the top 20% of men, just like with women, and gay males love emulating women's good or bad behaviours. But there's a bonus, because they're male, they do the mass-swipe thing to the right too, so sure, you get more matches than straight males, but there are lots of deceitful worthless ones. And they say gay males are oppressed, sure.

considering we have a very known loneliness epidemic, dating apps keeping your most compatible profiles behind such a giant pay wall sounds completely unethical.
It’s possible that while using HingeX, you were allowed to set your filters to be stricter like “must be liberal” or “must be ok not having kids.” Then once HingeX was gone, you no longer had those preferences so they showed your profile to a bunch of people who weren’t your type and a bunch of people who weren’t your type flooded your inbox. That might have been what happened at the end.
Hinge is a scam. Good example of how clever marketing sells a product at a higher markup without any additional value for the user. Same girls from Hinge also happen to be on Tinder and Bumble, whatever else you can imagine. Pointless. You're just paying for getting a different frontend and battling with a new algorithm. Not worth it.
Hey! I don't know about dating app algorithms, but when I had an idea to install Tinder RUclips next day showed me your video. Oh, and RUclips definitely knows my type... You're cute and seems have a nice personality ☺
Thanks for the kind words! I dunno if I'm flattered for the algorithm recommendation or highly suspicious that all these apps are snooping in our data 😬
So, as you are American I can see a lawsuit in the making "Subscribers go on twice as many dates." What is is half (unsubscribed) of one (subscribed) dates? There's a thing as 'half of a date'? Sue them Scott, get yer money back from totally false advertisement. Had they said "Subscribers *usually* or *typically* go on twice as many dates" or something along that line, they could have saved themselves from the absolute Hell you are about to unleash upon their finances. Take them to the bank Scott! You may find a nice single lawyer in the process!
I love the enthusiasm but alas, I'm not in a position to file lawsuits against multi-conglomerate billion dollar companies 😅 This little video will have to do!
i think all apps, whether its for straight, bi, gay/lesbian people regardless of who you are they have a fundamental problem. They all have a bottom line and a profit incentive and they have the ability to manipulate the user experience to milk as much profit as possible out of its users. the algorithms in the apps likely have the ability to show and connect compatible people but they are not made with that first and foremost, like hiding compatible profiles behind a paywall, putting compatible profiles in the standouts and then showing you incompatible people on your feed. My theory on your 70 plus likes right at the end of the subscription is to incentivise you to pay for another month
I think you've gotten it completely right. I've actually been debating about paying for a month again but the back of my mind thinks it's just a waste of money. We'll see how the holidays go I guess 😝
Did your incoming likes during HingeX go up? That’s what I’m interested in. I get a few likes a day but from people I’d say are not my type (I go for the “high elo” girls on the app”) and I know I never get shown to them on their stack. Also, did you find that after you ended your subscription to HingeX, they nuked your account? I’m afraid of trying it for a month and then them making my free experience worse to try and get me to subscribe again.
I usually get 1-2 likes a day on Hinge and I didn't see that change much during my paid subscription for HingeX. During the paid month I got to send regular likes to my "type" but I don't think I was shown organically on their feeds. Since the paid month ended I haven't noticed that they "nuked" my account but I'm back to not seeing many people that the algorithm knows are my "type" anymore except in the standouts tab where you have to send a paid "rose." But I used Hinge for free for probably a year so their algorithm has all the data they need to know what my preferred type is so they can paywall it. If I cared and had time to kill I'd make a second account to test if I'd see everyone again since the algorithm wouldn't have any data to start with.
I don't have a great memory but I think I liked a handful, so between 2-5? But yes, the majority were low-quality profiles that had few pictures or no bio/prompts.
I have some questions. Is there a dating app that you do like? Do you live in an area with lots of available guys around you? How did you feel about what happened to Icheb?
Hi John! I live in Los Angeles so there's definitely a lot of gays around. I mainly use the free version of Tinder and Hinge, and every 3-4 months I pay for Tinder Platinum for a month when they do a half off promo. I haven't found a dating app I actually like (though I thought Hinge was going to be different when it first came out, before the heavy monetization and algorithm paywalling). I believe both Hinge and Tinder allow you to upload short videos now so I'm going to look into that and see if that affects # of matches. Re: Icheb... if you're talking about the first couple minutes in an episode of Picard.. I was PISSED. The character had a ton of growth from Voyager and for them to do what they did for "shock" value was a real waste, in my opinion. I get that this was Picard's show and they didn't have time to treat the character properly, but they could have done lots of other things to introduce/have an affect on Seven. But that's just my take, thanks for the question :) 🖖
First of all, thanks for the warning about HingeX. Second, I think this is the second video where you've talked about finding guys who share your "values." My question is: what do you value? It may sound like it's self-explanatory but there are religious values and moral values and so on. How about a video where you discuss your values, how you present those in online profiles, and what are your Must Haves, Would Be Nices, and your Dealbreakers?
How do you feel about paying for "premium" features on dating apps?
You sir are the sexiest man I've ever seen!
