- BOTS WILL BE BUGS follows Wasp, all the way from his start at boot camp to his mutation into Waspinator. This animatic specifically hones in on Wasp's hidden self-hatred and how it has manifested into a fake ego in a desperate attempt to look impressive to those around him. Most of it follows canon events with a touch of fanon and personal headcanons on events and characterization. This was created for day seven of TFA week (the prompt was "emotional"), but I've had the concept for the animatic for about a year now! I started this about three weeks ago and finished today.
This animatic kicked my ASS but it was also a really insightful experience for me! It was a challenge to do so much work and to draw robots of all things, but I learned a lot and I think I've come out a better artist-- and definitely a better animatic-maker.
BREAKDOWN & ANALYSIS
The animatic begins right before Wasp joins boot camp. Being of a very common and small frametype, Wasp has been mocked and belittled his entire life. He views boot camp as an opportunity to change this, and upon seeing Bumblebee-- a bot of his own frametype-- he decides that he will not be seen as equal or inferior to Bumblebee; he'll be bigger and better. This leads to Wasp picking on and bullying Bumblebee, and as Wasp gains friends and the respect and admiration of his sergeant, his confidence and ego only grows. He still struggles, his buried self-hatred creeping back up every now and then, but his homebrewed solution is to continually take it out on Bumblebee.
Everything seems to finally be going his way when Sentinel discovers a Decepticon communicator in Wasp's locker. Though he pleads his innocence, Wasp is arrested and thrown in the stockades, losing everything he has. 50 stellarcycles past and he is freed by a familiar face. Blinded by revenge, Wasp seeks out Bumblebee and attempts to replace him, which of course, fails. He's then kidnapped and mutated by Blackarachnia and comes face to face with Bumblebee one last time.
In the final scene, both Bumblebee and Wasp have their own internal revelations: Bumblebee realizes that Wasp was just as self-conscious as himself and that all the bullying that he endured wasn't personal. Wasp does feel remorse and guilt for what he did to Bumblebee but also thinks that he might just deserve everything that has happened to him.

No denying it, Wasp was a jerk, but he didn't deserve what happened to him. All twisted and insane, being used as a pawn by everyone, from Shockwave to Black Arachnia. A very monstrous and tragic take in the goofy Beast Wars Character.
From this perspective, he looks less like a heartless - err, 𝑠𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑘𝑙𝑒𝑠𝑠 - jerk, and more like just someone looking for friends, sick of this one kid who looks like him giving them more work, and maybe a bit scared of losing his friends
Bee didn’t deserve to be picked on, but Wasp didn’t deserve the treatment he got, either.
Wasp's story in TFA was really sad and he honestly deserved a better arc or at least a better conclusion to it. Anyways, you've captured his story perfectly and I even cried :')

He was just a little mean that's all . He got falsely accused and punished . He want mad from isolation . Sometimes we create our own enemies with or without knowing .
The showrunners probably had something like that in mind for Season 4. Unfortunately, it was canceled before we got the chance to see.
He would have reappeared and got more story of animated had been renewed for a fourth season

The part with Waspinator and Wasp was.. Jesus, I almost choked on tears..
Can wasp PLEASE be put back into the main line up. He was such an awesome character, and he provided bumblebee some really good character development

I love Wasp in TfA, and I'm kinda sad that he, along with many other characters, didn't get a complete ending. I feel like he could have had a semi-happy ending, but he didn't, and I want to give him a hug.

Poor wasp he was trying to become a elite guardsmen and when his life was ruined he decided to take the wrong path and ended up ruining it even more.

I haven't seen TFA in ages. And we'll yes I don't think I ever got to finishing it as a kid. This def makes me want to rewatch it even more.

Longarm gave Wasp a chance at revenge, but Wasp never realized that everything was Longarm's fault to begin with. Or that Longarm was Shockwave in disguise and had ruined Wasp's life to keep the heat off of him.
To see wasp like this really hurts even though he was rude to bumblebee and disliked him he lost everything and even though wasp ended up being a villain and it’s sad to him go through this and he does feel guilty about what he did to bumblebee and should have a better life

And you know it’s really sad to see him go through this cuz honestly while I watched this it made me cry knowing all the bad things he done to bee I really wish we see wasp again cuz we missed him but he is now waspnaitor and it’s too bad he is gone cuz he feels guilty about what he done to bee and honestly while I look at the description it was really sad for a character like wasp to go through this all beacuse he was jerk and even though his mutation wasp is gone rip him and honestly we are all gonna miss him even though he was a jerk we will always remember him not as a bad bot but a good one i really wish they brought wasp back cuz everyone misses him so much I hope one day transformers chould bring back wasp so they can make him a better autobot instead of being evil I really wish wasp chould be nice to bee and never be evil and be a guardian pro so everyone chould accept him like ironhide and especially strongarm aka shockwave although shockwave did ruiend wasp chance of becoming the guardian pro wasp is now forever to be waspnaitor until they fix wasp and his character arc I really hope we get to see wasp being on the good side and not being cruel to bumblebee and bulkhead I hope wasp is seen in the transformers as a good bot i really wish he change from the side of good cuz we really wanted what was best for him
I think if season 4 happend, then Ironhide and bumblebee should have been the ones too get wasp back to normal to show that Ironhide still considers him a friend and so bee and wasp can reconcile

I really do think you've captured the whole part of Autobot Camp and the hidden aspects of it very nicely.
