Jim, Neil, really enjoy y'alls videos.Plan on doing the TAT soon! Hard to find vids without a lot of blaring (music), love the natural sounds and the limited talking. Very well put together stuff. Thanks so much.
So true Edward, as much of the TAT videos have the cliche motorcycle music blasted. I really enjoy Jim and Neil's videos because you feel like you're on the trip with them. Great work Jim!
We ran the stock gearing (15t primary/ 45t rear). We both have Safari 4.1 gal tanks- I actually pumped 4.6 into mine once after "tipping it" and eventually running out completely as I rolled into the gas station. They're really nicely made and comfortable to ride with. The size is perfect. There was one section on the CD trail that was 260miles and we diverted to get gas along the way. Fortunately it wasn't too far. I figure I can go 240 miles... I got 60 to 62MPG on my bike before it was re-mapped. Now 50 and 55 MPG. Neil's is not re-mapped and uses noticeably less fuel at each stop.
I love the Steam locomotive, I grew up watching them past here in Heidelberg, MS and had several model trains! Classic find and thanks for sharing! Motorman In Da Sip
Hey Jim, Tom Barber here we were the guys you met crossing the aspen tree at about 23 minutes in. was out in the garage working on the bike and watching utube when i saw this yesterday! getting me fired up to hit the trail again!
Late finding this, but had to comment anyway as I so enjoyed the videos of your TAT trip and this is equally as good! Thanks for the effort put into the recording of and editing of these videos....this is a route I hope to do one day! Hope you're on to another one!
thanks for the video. what gearing did you run on your KTM 500exc for the trip? did you ever come close to running out of gas with your 5 gal tanks? what kind of gas mileage did you get?
Great Video Jim, I would like to ask the date you started at Antelope Wells so I might determine the best time of the year for this adventure? It's my understanding that starting in July thru August would be best. What do you say? Thanks in advance for the insight.
We reached Antelope Wells around Aug 27th. Of course late in the year it is dryer and more fires but earlier might be snow and mud, especially after a heavy snow year. There's some pretty high altitudes along the way.
Jim, in your opinion how did this compare to the TAT? Personally I really enjoyed the TAT and am considering this one. This summer I did about 10,000 miles east of the Mississippi. I took a KLR650 and a KTM 1090 Adventure R. I'm thinking my old 1990 Suzuki DR350S is a better choice for this trip. When you get a chance please let me know.
Excuse my delay in replying. The CDR is easier and shorter than the TAT. The DR350 would do fine but, of course, it's very much a personal choice. As you can see I prefer a lighter bike and gear.

Cool, good to hear from you Tom. How did your ride go. Did you make it to the border?

Cool little movie!!
Fantastic video. Thank you. Hey I want to do same but only have Triumph Tiger 800 XCx. It looks like it would be okay. Do you agree?
Robert, yeah looks like a great bike. I wouldn't think you would have any problem. I see it has a large gas tank capacity which I like. Cheers

Your bikes are KTM 500 EXC I noticed one of the bikes had hard paneers. I wasn’t aware they sold panners racks for those bikes.
Neil got his hard paneers from globetrottin.com
