Hi from Spain, i have discevered this amazing trail two weeks ago and i´m very interesting about it. How many time did you need for this travel and how many kilometers per day? thanks a lot a congratulations for that amazing journey
Are you sure this is in order? I don't recall any of that terrain from 10:00 - 12:20 (sage, sand and cedars) between Dry creek and Crescent Oregon.. It looks more like the area around silver lake?
Hey thanks for your comment Bob I appreciate it. Is the first videos I've made. Yes started from Oregon and headed east. We hit unseasonably cool weather pretty much the entire way. That was the toughest part. Lots of rain we just weren't prepared for that. We're a couple of desert boys. Cheers
We used the tracks from GPS Kevin, starting with the last section number and beginning at the end and ending at the beginning. No problem out West. Of course it isn't quite right on freeway sections in N Carolina...but you can figure it out.
You're going the wrong way!!! I was reading the FAQ section on www.transamtrail.com , and one of questions was "Can I ride from West to East?" and the answer was "NO" blah blah blah, and finished with "Do not even think about attempting to navigate from west to east" Hahaha, You two shot that suggestion all to hell!!! Makes perfect sense if you live on the west coast. I live up the coast from Port Orford. Used to surf there regularly years ago. Great videos that you put up Jim Johnston, Thank You. Overall, how did your KTM's do? I just sold my Yamaha & Suzuki dual sports and am seriously considering a KTM 500 EX. Just looking for feedback. Thanks. Cheers.
Foolish to attempt it without at least some back up shelter and or sleeping bag in case you get caught out between towns, bad weather and or mechanical problems that can prevent you from getting to the next town. Also limited accommodations in the small towns may prevent room availability. We rode into Fields Oregon in September mid week and it was full, (only about 8 rooms available), opal hunters, bird watchers etc. Who knew?.
Hey, put links to the gear you used to Amazon and make $$$ for your assistance. I'd LOVE to know what you brought....I'd even be willing to PayPal you $50 for your advice. I'll also be riding a KTM 500 EXC 2016.
Thanks for posting. Beautiful scenery.
thanks for sharing. enjoyed it,,

It seems most people take about 30 days, averaging 200 miles (320 km) per day
I agree, we averaged about 200 miles a day. I would recommend leaving bit extra time in case of bad weather, breakdowns, etc. etc.

Cool videos Jim. I did the trail in 2008. It looks like you guys ran it from West to East? How did that go?

+Jim Johnston Hi Jim, I'm planning on riding east to west next summer, any tips? how did you get maps? and from where?
Did you buy the route and run it backwards or just make up your own?
We used the tracks from GPS Kevin, starting with the last section number and beginning at the end and ending at the beginning. No problem out West. Of course it isn't quite right on freeway sections in N Carolina...but you can figure it out.
How much fuel did you guys carry with you? Did you have oversized tanks?
Yes, highly recommended. We used the Safari 4.2gallon tanks, well made and comfortable to ride.

They just want you to buy there maps.. I guess if you can navigate it from west to east it's the same but different lol
Shiny Knife Totally agree with you.
arkansaswookie the white rim in moab and hancock pass in colorado are better this direction.
you can go either way with gps
Is it possible to do this without camping? My back would not take it and my buddy has a sleep apnea machine that has to get plugged in.
It's possible. You just have to allow for time and fuel to locate a hotel with vacancy when you're about done each day.

@ 3:20 Wasn't the battery brand new when Neil first started the trail?
No, of course not...that would have made the ride too easy.
