Andy I think you need to do a video on what not to add to your team if you have a lot of excess gold and why. I have played several TV 2 million plus teams with 8 rerolls, full staff and highly skilled players. Which just meant my TV 1.1 million team was inducing Morg, Varag/Borak rerolls and bribes. I suspect a lot of players are just assuming spending the gold to build as big of a team as possible is the way to win and maybe it’s getting concessions from less experienced players particularly as you can’t easily see how much is bloat in the inducement phase.
So funny story, Last Friday I saw Blood Bowl 1 Chaos Edition was on offer on Steam for £1.18 and thought why not I always wanted to give it a try but my friends were much more into Space Hulk back in the day and I never played the tabletop game so why not. Fast forward to Monday an a weekend of playing and damn it has been an eye opener I can see why so many people love this game. I picked a Dwarf Team because i love dwarves wayback from my WHFB days but it was a very steep learning curve andd I was getting ablsolutly hammered. Even though I'm not playing BB3 this guide has been brilliant and helped me progress a lot with my Dwarf team. It's also convince me to purchase BB3 and I think i'm going to dip my toes back into GW (after over a 20 year hiatus) and start a physical team. Great videos, Loving the Channel!
As a long time dwarf coach a couple of things I want to say. - Against fast teams like skaven or elves do NOT put all your dwarfs on the LOS or up forward on offense. You're OK with having your team surrounded by such weedy players so let them run around and surround your formation, just protect the ball up the middleish of the pitch. You're going to be punching linerats or elves, especially with a few guard up there it's not a job for 10 dwarfs. Keep a few beards back a little ways, your nightmare is a blitz opens up your line and a bunch of fast stuff pours through to contest your ball pick up, especially against a team with kick make sure you protect that pick up. As long as you do that you should always manage a draw at minimum. - Consider taking stand firm on a couple of blockers as their second skill instead of mighty blow. It may not seem like much but against teams that don't want to engage and will just pick at the corners of your formation it prevents them being able to follow up a block or otherwise moving in to base the ball carrier without simultaneously basing one of your still standing blockers. This means you will not have to commit the blitz to getting the ball carrier free.
I dunno what it is, but I've always liked playing dorfs, something about methodically grinding the other team into dust is extremely satisfying to me. Also, the danger lawnmower is my favourite big guy in blood bowl. Great video!
One thing you probably should have stressed more is that dorfs are all about redundancy. Every player NEEDS to get roughly the same skills exactly because they are so slow and you need to be able to plug any player into any gap and have it function the same.
I noticed that I was playing far to lose, bad habits from focusing on Skaven, I have moved on to Dwarves as a secondary team as a way to retrain my playstyle. After a couple games I realized that I needed a video like this. So different... Also, Fumblerooskie. I got stuck with it in a 7's league. Turned out to be a very reliable way to move the ball from gutter runner to gutter when they both start the turn marked. Most people don't expect it, meta not caught up, and it allowed me to pull off terrible shenanigans.
To my mind, you don't want Tackle on a Troll Slayer, since they'll either be going up against big guys, who are unlikely to have Dodge, or you're trying to crowdsurf, in which case a pushback is a perfectly acceptable result.
My first ever tabletop team before I knew anything about BB was dwarfs. What I learned is that as much as you want slayers to be your stars...they're not. They have a specific job and that is to open up profitable blocks against teams like Chaos, Orcs and Lizardmen in your early games before you've been able to spam guards. Because your blockers start with block and these ST4 blockers don't, when TVs are equal you ALWAYS have more guard than they do until very high TV and often even then you still do. So the more guard you get the lower the slayer's value to your team is. On top of all that frenzy means it's very difficult to keep slayers out of harm's way and everyone wants to target them both because they perceive them as your star players but also because of AV9+. If there is one team that doesn't have "stars" and it really is a full team effort, it's dwarfs. Virtually every member of the team is 75% as good as your opponent's stars are. If there is a downside to this then it's that you don't want to foul very often at all because there's no one you'd be OK with having sent off with the exception of the roller because of it's absurd return on investment and the fact that it lives on borrowed time anyway.
If dwarves were so broken, how come they don’t win more? They’re already balanced up with the low movement, meaning one mistake and they’re all left behind.
Thx for the guides. They're very good. Wil u be revisiting them a year from now for example, when u've had more experience with bb2020/bb3? I would find it interesting hearing u talk about ur own learning curve going forwards 🙂
Is there a second type of Runner you'd suggest. You talked about the first one, but never mentioned the second one. What do you think about giving the second runner wrestle, tackle, strip ball?
I start with 1 trollslayers 2 runners 2 Blitzers 6 blocker lineman to start. Need runners and Blitzer to be able to handle the ball. Taking 2 of each only take 6 spots. 6 blocker lineman and a death roller gives you a 13 man roster. The first purchase is 2nd troll slayer. I like a symmetrical line because I crowd surf a lot. Starting skill for trollslayer is guard. Too many big guys and str 4 players. Next stand firm for same reason i crowd surf a lot with frenzy . Probably pro for dauntless reroll. 2nd and last player purchase us deathroller
My fav roster with new rules 1 Slayer 1 runner 2 blizters 7 linemen 3RRs 2 Fans On my second game on turn 8 of his offense one blitzer picked up the ball and made a short pass to my runner who was in range and scored with 1 RR used for the pass=concede lol Was 🤩
Dwarfs are NOT nearly as "boring" as Andy makes them appear (imho). They can be one of the BASHIEST of all teams...and that alone CAN make them a fun team to play. They are also (again, imho) one of the best teams to start with for beginners. ...but, after 30 years I still cannot figure out how to score more than 2 pts a game consistently with them! lol
We've been arguing for over two decades that Dwarfs shouldn't have so much Tackle on their team and GW have never listened. I can't see it changing now.
I miss the tactic of going on a full-on rampage and get as many send off asap. Especially the first few turns you need a bunch ko or stunned giving more options. Locally you could get an numerical advantage that snowballs. If half the opposing team is still standing at the end of the match, something went wrong. Btw, if they have few with Block, you may allow a bunch of two dice option attacks on yourself if they overcommit, chance of both down working in your favour. These players working on this leave others vulnerable. So you trade one at risk for a domino elsewhere on the field. Eventually everyone has massive block, but by then you'll have lots of guard. And all that tackle will turn dodge into a wasted investment.
Given that Dwarfs can struggle against high ST teams, wouldn't Dauntless be a skill you'd want to have on more than just the Troll Slayers? I could see taking Dauntless on the Blitzers, maybe even a Blocker or two.
@@SuperDoggy99 Only time you should be blitzing with a troll slayer is to either surf or break a cage otherwise they are held back with your runners as safeties. You do not need them to be on the frontline longbreads and blitzers are more than enough
Also I guess if you are planning to foul a big guy I guess and av eight is not even that bad plus thick skull troll slayers are still pretty tanky as they are still better protected than humans, zombies, pretty much anything that isn't av 9. Sounds like you need to work on your positioning as positioning is what dwarfs win or lose on.
Andy, I don't think the Deathroller needs nerfing. It's sooo bloody expensive and only during one drive... Hardly anyone plays it nowadays, so why nerf it?
With their movement as their greatest weakness and after guard no pressing need xp isn't as much a concern, right? Taking an attribute on a lineman might be nice for just the chance to get a +1 move. That will be like adding a third blitzer, for only 70 +10(guard) +20k for the movement. A blitzer that already has tackle! If you don't get it, a secondary skill (defensive or dodge) isn't that bad. although 40k is pricey, it'll be an even nicer roadblock that is harder to remove. Will firing and getting new guys be implemented anytime soon? That will make this, and random (primary) skills, be much nicer. When two-for-one you have fair chance of getting guard or mighty blow and something decent. Just recycle if bad...
@@AndyDavoBloodBowl I looked it up and while a random attribute costs a lot of xp, +1 AV cost only 10, +1 MA (or PA) cost only 20, +1 AG 40 (not worth it imo) and +1 ST 80 (I think too expensive too). The xp isn't a problem for me as you only really need guard and I block nonstop so even linemen level up eventually. I'd like to have defensive on one lineman anyway, even though it costs 40. At least later, when guard becomes very common. I'd take the +1 AV because it's almost free, and try again, but the +1 MA for 20 is the best bargain. The deathroller really helps. 1 runner, 1 deathroller, 2 Troll Slayers, 7 linemen. Fill up with rerolls and fanfactor.

Who gets kick? As you say, positioning is key with Dwarves. I'd be tempted to put it on the 2nd runner and build him up as a utility guy
I usually just stick it on a random Longbeard, since everyone else tends to have more pressing things to get.
You must learn dwarves to punish dwarves, and that is the only reason that I am watching this video. I will crush this scourge.
Dwarf blocker. I love guard as first. 2nd skill I take is dauntless. This way they are super against strength and dodgy teams
