I had the chance to saw this movie for the second time yesterday in the Cinema and Falling Angels too, I went with that special someone as my companion and I can only say I was truly overwhelmed both by the movie and for not watching them alone this time. Life's truly a drama most of the time but it is the only place where we have Wong Kar Wai's films.
I saw this movie when I was 11 years old~ I was fascinated by the visual language of the movie. Although I can’t understand it, I always want to watch it. I am 37 years old now, and I watch it several times a year, and I feel that it is getting heavier every year! Wong Kar-wai's movies are about life! The color process of different lives is different.

The trailer captures nothing about the film except a certain element of parts of it - the speed element, accelerated time. That is important but will not tell you much at all about the film. But don't worry, it's a great investment to watch it.
@@howdidigethere_1 just yesterday. loved it. i love the trailer even still although it doesn't do what a trailer usually does - it doesn't capture the heart of the film, but it tells a lot about the soul and esthetics of it. it's like a short film, a collage to accompany the movie. an extra content like a music video. still so much more interesting than vast majority of trailers made in past ten years. i wish the movie industry had more guts to think out of the box like that more often, we would have so much more interesting content
First i bought the Tarantino's Rolling Thunder version of Chungking Express, later upgraded to the bluray version and than i upgraded again to the Criterion version which is awesome and now i want this 4k version. I have already upgraded In the Mood for Love to the Criterion. Waiting for 2046. When it's come to WKW, i have no problem spending money on his movies.
Trailer seems intended to make the audience think this movie is a straight up thriller/mystery/action movie which it most decidedly is not. It’s a cotton candy Godard movie, mostly about young people falling in and out of love and thinking they have a lifetime of youth to find the right person. (Spoiler for life, though not necessarily the movie: you don’t have a lifetime of youth.)
This film was my bisexual awakening LMAO imagine seeing Takeshi Kaneshiro thinking “….he’s hot”, then seeing Faye Wong and then thinking “… oh her too???”
I feel like this movie is the furthest thing from love and romance, yet these two words seem to be the ones mentioned the most when talked about this film.
Furthest thing? How exactly? Maybe i can't see what you see but the movie has a lot to do with love and romance. First half is a man getting over his ex and then falling in love and the second half is about a woman who's in love and a man waiting for his lover to return. if i remember correctly. Really curious about your interpretation?
I usually like action, suspense movie. I decide to see this movie after someone on you tube praising it 3 years back. Till this to day i have never deleted this movie from my phone. The cinematography, the songs. I watch it everytime i feel happy.

Funny that fans are discussing the Criterion OOP version, yet more cultural valuable, are the 90s bootleg versions that surfaced in the actual Chunking district in HK, and follows the plot. Rarity for those versions to exist today in its OG format.
This is one of Tarantino's favorite films, and the director who made this film. If Tarantino used techniques, attributes, and even stories from Japanese and Chinese films in his own films, then director Wong Kar-Wai loved to use the shooting style of European directors. There are two stories here. At first, I found the film boring when watching the first story. I started to convince myself that this was due to our reality, the internet, and the abundance of choices. We are spoiled. But when the second story began, although I did not start to guess why Tarantino liked this film, I began to enjoy what was happening on the screen without analyzing it. Everything is soulful, especially the character Faye, played by actress Faye Wong, who exploded the film with her aura, energy, mystery, cuteness, and strangeness. She is simply a delight! I liked the film.
The first part of this movie is a damn perfect Short Story... cuz the ending, once you've seen will torment you for days making you wonder 'What the hell couldds happen after....' haha, it's very addicting feeling actually!
If i havent seen the movie i would think this as a dark crime investigating detective sort of film and wouldnt give it a shot. Lol Glad i watched the film at completely random without seeing any trailers or even hearing about it beforehand. I fell in love with it the first time and never thought it actually had a very good reception and reputation.
I can't believe that this movie is already 27 years old and yet Chinese cinema has regressed to the point that they only support movie with nationalistic and patriotic theme. It is very sad and unfortunate that this kind of movie will never be made again in China or perhaps even in Asian cinema. The Western cinema is also regressing to the point that they are now relies solely on big multinational company (Disney, Warner bros, etc.) to make movies that its sole purpose is for a quick cash grab. Netflix is perhaps a breath of fresh air but it is due to there foreign contents (well they operates in almost 200 countries) but the company's pandering to the uber woke audience is also a problem. Well I due hope that in the near future this kind of movies can be produced again.
Japan is relying too much on movie adaptations of TV shows, either reality shows or soap operas. They do produce gems every now and then. In Asian cinema, Korea is probably the king right now, at least for live action films. Look for films distributed by either Well Go USA or GKIDS. GKIDS usually only releases anime but they did release some live action films like The Eight Hundred and Parasite.
