    Wavetrac's LSD upgrade for the F8X M2, M2C, M3 & M4 is finally available and at Regal Autosport, we are stocking pre-built axles to exchange with your original axle. Making the upgrade as painless and as time-efficient as possible.
    The problem with the factory E-LSD is a plate style differential with locking force which is adjusted by an electric motor. The E-LSD is open until the motor actuates.
    As the E-LSD is fundamentally a plate differential, it still has all of the drawbacks of a conventional plate differential and a couple more unique to the E-LSD aspect. The usual drawbacks are that as the plates wear over time they slowly become less effective and to maintain effectiveness these plates will need to be renewed as well as the snappy on/off driveability that some people like, but most do not. The factory E-LSD also has many temperature parameters, which once exceeded, it'll deactivate and open fully, not ideal.
    There are some other plate differential options on the market but these are mainly suited to pure motorsport use, as well as some other ATB based options but these are a huge downgrade as they perform like an open differential when load is reduced or lost.
    The Wavetrac LSD, however, has a patented cam device in the centre which generates internal load in situations where axle load is reduced or lost, these conditions are typically when there is wheel slip (spin), suspension unloading (cornering) or wheel lift. All common driving situations to experience in an ///M car. The Wavetrac maintains a silky smooth driveability vs. the factory E-LSD and comes with a lifetime, transferable warranty, even when used in pure motorsport.

    thank you for explanation how original diff works, I liked electronics option and wanted to fit it in my car with my own controller, so that's one temperature factor eliminated, I don't think 190 C is healthy temperature for any diff and I already have cooler so it should never reach that temperature, leaving me with last factor you mentioned. How robust is that electric locking servo motor? do you have some data how it works in car? does it need to be controlled every time you want locking action to save it or is it ok to command it to make let's say 25% locking pressure whole time?

      The temperature is resistance based. If you wish to eliminate it, simply add inline resistors and test. It's actually very basic.

    how are the factory lsd? do they lock? im looking to install one on my rx7 but id be using the lock on a button rather than variable. Would you say this lasts longer without the slip then? I hate my welded diff

      Because it is a 'limited slip differential' - The RX7 is already well catered for, I would steer towards that if it was my build.

      @@RegalAutosport haha yeah my rx7 isnt a normal rx7. I have a bmw dct gearbox in it. Honda engine and bmw dif. About to become awd :)
