If Fantasia doesnt SAAAANG...i dont kno who does...plz xcuse my constant input (and ma sisters singing here n there lol)...lol...we COULD NOT contain ourselves
I was front row when i saw this on broadway and Fantasia was crying during this scene.... She went into that character with every bit of spirit... Fantasia made Celie her own....
I was there that night and the crowd was electric. When Fantasia sang this song it was like a revival and rock concert rolled into one. By the time she got to the end of this song people were on their feet screaming and clapping as if the Holy Ghost was rolling through. I sat two seats over from Ms. Patti Labelle and she was on her feet waving and screaming too as if she was in church. I had already seen the play twice prior to this night. This particular performance was on fire. Amazing!!
I LOVE the ladies talking. Made me feel like I was there. Seen the show many times and I cry everytime I watch this!!!! U go ladies and thanks for the vid.
As soon as I heard Tasia is starring in the movie, I ran here to watch this again. I wish you could do an audio commentary for the Blu-ray! Who do we petition for that? 🤣
umm no......the narrator is not qualified...she assumed fantasia 'missed a whole verse' at 2:24...when she didn't. Fantasia just took her time with the song (and improvised upwards and held notes out for longer than she did in most performances/the studio version) . Meanwhile Cynthia Screamrivo's voice gave out her last performance of I'm here
This performance is still very chilling and moving all of these years later regardless of the quality of this video! This song was meant and written for strictly for Fantasia! Nobody on earth can sing it like her!
Saw the revival 3 weeks ago, for the people who are saying that the audience was rude, I completely disagree. The live performance of this song and many others in the show really makes you want to stand up and cheer halfway through the song (which happened many times). The raw emotion packed into this song is what compels the audience to do what they did in the video and it's not your place to judge how they feel.
The MUSICAL The BOOK The MOVIE The STOLEN LIVES, DISPARITY OF FORMER SLAVES AND THEIR CHILDREN AND THEN THEIR CHILDRENS' CHILDREN. US WE ARE STILL HERE.
This is so moving.. because she was truly SINGING to the audience... If the audience had not been as active... Her performance would not have been as lively.. Fantasia THRIVED off of Audience Participation...
This was posted 12 years ago, yet I am back to hear the Holy Ghost in this. And the reaction of the recorder, is one of someone who is moved, like they ought to be. Brings me to tears. Everytime.
I saw the current Broadway production last week with Cynthia Erivo and Jennifer Hudson...and from the opening number the audience were vocal and enthusiastic. Shouting things like "yes lord" and "you better sing girl" during really emotional parts of songs or speech. It made the show 1000x more enjoyable, no one turned round and said "oh that was rude" or that it ruined the show for them. The entire audience were fully engaged in the show and the actresses themselves said they love how much the audience get involved!
ok, I am a professional actor and singer and let me correct some folks here. Fantasia brought those people to hollerin' and they did what she told em to do. No actor likes a boring audience. The more the audience gives you, the more you give them. And homegirl tore it DOWN. Screw theatre etiquette. Get down and have fun.
Even with all the moving around and yelling you were still able to capture this moment. Surprisingly you managed to capture a powerful and moving performance. I can only imagine what it was like to be in the theater that night. Thank you!
What’s crazy is that any recording of a live Broadway song doesn’t sound nearly as good as it does in person but Fantasia’s performances sound like you’re right there. I can’t even imagine what it was like in person. Profound.
y'all love to talk/TYPE crap about somebody yelling this is these ppls jobs as entertainers is to move you and touch you and get you off your feet and shout💃🕺🗣 they love it they feed off the audiences energy especially this talented BEAUTIFUL AMAZING Queen right here
Let me explain something to people who are making judgments about the audience. I was there that night. This video doesn’t remotely capture the tone, emotion or energy in the room that night. I majored in Theatre at NYU and attend shows regularly, so I’m well aware of the usual Broadway audience decorum. But the call and response reaction to this particular show, this particular performer, and especially on her final night, was more than appropriate. Fantasia fed off it and it launched her to give one of the most incredible performances I’ve ever seen on a stage. You can’t hear clearly on this 13 year old crappy recording, but that night NOBODY with working ears or a good hearing aid had any trouble hearing Fantasia bring the house down. You really just had to be there.
Stop talking bad about the person who recorded this video and be happy that she shared it. I find her enthusiasm absolutely hilarious! I am in tears laughing! I saw the play on Broadway twice and the energy in the room during this scene was crazy. I LOVED IT! I'm thinking about going a third time when she comes to D.C.
i absolutely feel the same way the fan felt who recorded this video.. I wish I would had or could had went too see the play.. I would had been doing the same thing if i was doing the recording or was just in the background.. I love fantasia and her voice.. She is definately annoited and so very gifted w/ a gift of music.. Sing It Tasia
If y’all think it’s rude for people to be hoopin and hollering during this video wait until the musical movie version comes out lol they bout to show out. I’m Here is going to be a MOMENT. Make room for your Oscar Fantasia
when she say " I cant record mo' mo'", "she missed a whole verse"..."YOU damn right....let it OUT! You betta sang that s#%@!...." lmao... I feel homegirl recording though, I thought i was gone cry till i had no more tears! Tay tay SUNG THE NOTES OFF THAT SONG!" You betta get it girl...
I really don't mind your input in the video! LOL I must even say you really gave me life! HAHAHA WOOOOOW WHAT A PERFORMANCE! ID PROBABLY DO THE SAME THING IF I WERE IN YOUR SHOES!!!! AMAZING AMAZING!!!
I love these girls lol I was right there with y'all lol Tasia open that mouth in your souls start getting stirred up!! Thank y'all for this amazing video lol 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Actually the running commentary added to my enjoyment of the video. You and your sisters sound like you're FUN to be around! I have seen the play 5X now and can related to what you guys were feeling. I can't wait until the movie comes out then the DVD so I can scream, shout and cry to my hearts content without upsetting folks.
The quality of the video itself isn't that great at all. It seems whoever recorded this got too caught up and too excited from Fantasia's amazing performance. But, as a Fantasia fan as well as a fan of this song, I ALWAYS; and I do mean ALWAYS enjoy hearing/watching fantasia perform, especially this song. "I'm Here."
She slayed that wore that out got me crying killed it beasted it Whatever compliment I can throw you got it Tasia my favorite performance of this song and I've watched tons
i cried so hard! thanx for uploading..the camera & emotions are real! if i were there holding the camera..i believe i could only hold it for few seconds..i wud jumping around like crazy! Tasia..u R d real deal!
You guys are funny!! I did go see the Color Purple in Austin. The young lady who played Celie did a good job but she didn't tear this song up. Fantasia has so much emotion in her singing and she lives this song and you can feel it. Seems like she took ya'll to church and that is alright with me! Hopefully I can see her performance and enjoy her singing this song! Also, I would have been saying, "girl you betta sang it " and talking like you all were!!LOL
While I would rather here Fantasia sing than all of the screaming and of course there is "proper etiquette" when attending broadway shows, however being in attendance at this particular show is extremely moving and empowering at the same time, there is an overwhelming sense of connection and triumph that causes such reaction..believe me, these ladies were NOT "odd man out" by any means!..I saw it in ATL and will be seeing it in LA..it's just that awesome!..thx for the post..in spite of..;o)
I never don't cry when I see this video. I saw her on Broadway do this and I swear that I sat down next to a white woman that I didn't even know but by the time the end of this play came, we were hand in hand and crying together!
Your behaviour is really awful… not only towards Fantasia (whom is playing a character, and should not be called out by her real name) but to the audience members around you. This isn't church… this a theatre where a story is being told. Have respect for the story, performer, and audience members around you. You're not a part of the story but you are privileged to enjoy it… show some respect.
It's funny that you mention church, because this show begins with a gospel song set in a church... Maybe the writers did that to set themselves up for a church-like response from the audience. ;) Anyways, I totally understand where you're coming from and I would usually agree... But this isn't a Rodgers and Hammerstein classic where you sit quietly and politely applaud when something is good. This is a modern musical that digs deep into your soul and if someone is feeling it they should express it. And these ladies aren't alone! If you listen, the entire audience is roaring... And that's one of the magical things about theatre, the relationship between performer and audience. I'm a professional musical theatre actor here in Seattle and it's so hard to give everything you have if you can't feel anything from the audience. Yes, you can do a quality performance because that is what you're paid to do, but Fantasia gave a once in a lifetime performance in this recording because of her give and take with the audience. She would have never been able to leave it all on the stage without the audience's rowdy support. It is the actor in this case who is privileged to have an amazing audience supporting her and inspiring her to go to the next level, no matter how unorthodox their behavior.
Well Digger maybe technically you have a point, but this here song is an anthem! An anthem for all women, especially black women who are too often looked over passed and passed over, but struggle on antway. So when she says, "Im beautiful and IM HERE, you just gotta give a handclap of praise to every woman who is walking toward self discovery and self love!!💃🏽🙏🏽
You know what, i'm Asian and I think I would be screaming if I were there too because i'm a huge fan of Tasia. Plus they weren't the only ones screaming, pretty much the whole theatre was cheering for this amazing talent.
Damn all the negative people commenting on the young lady's commentary during Fantasia's performance do a favor to yourselves since her behavior is so "ghetto".."disgusting" and "embarrassing"...CLICK ON THE "X" IN THE UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER and get the hell out of the video! Please relieve yourself of such a horrible sight! Damn! Clearly she wasn't the only one responding to this wonderful performance! Go see Fiddler On The Roof or Hair Spray if you don't want to be around "these people"!
loved everything about the video from the sister so excited she could recored to the crowd feeling fantaisa...lol cant wait to see it in dc with my mom...thanks for the post of this video
if you guys would pay attention THE WHOLE crowd was yelling and shouting, NOT just the chicks recording it. it wasn't totally quiet in there. c'mon people.
if anyone knows theater history you would know that theater began as participatory where the audience was aloud to shout and talk tot he characters- the observatory theater became later when the theater began to cater to the elite society who went to the opera where they had to be quiet and that's how theater became an observatory entertainment
I can't tell u how much I LOVE this video!!! Some people may not like the recording or your "input," but I feel like it makes it even better! Fantasia sang that song w/ all she had inside & EVERY TIME I listen to it, I get chills!!! LOVE IT...THX FOR SHARING!! BTW, do u know if "The Color Purple" on Broadway w/ her will ever be available on DVD??
This is why i LOVEEEEEEE Fantasia.. She has the amazing talent to evoke such RAW emotion from people... Fantasia and Jennifer Hudson are the only 2 people of this generation that HONESTLY can do that...#teamidol
Thank you so much for sharing this video with us. Tasia's performance, plus yall's commentary took me on a journey. This is beyond words makes me feel the same way I do when I listen to Donny Hathaway or Rachelle Ferrel.
Marquese Robinson AMEN AMEN & AMEN AGAIN SIR!! DONNY & THE UNDERRATED LOVELY RACHELLE FERRELL. WILL DOWNING & MADAM R. FERRELL... "NOTHING HAS EVER FELT LIKE THIS" IS ALL I'M GOING TO SAY!!
I found you all to be hilarious! I have sisters and friends who would have probably been annoyed by you as well, but probably would have drowned you out with our own noise. LOL... It doesn't bother us when we're the ones making the noise. Loved your enthusiasm. This song and entire play evokes powerful emotion especially for those that can identify with the degradation of a human soul Hope provokes such outbursts and empowerment! You all screamed for all of us!!! Lighten up everyone!
I love my people...we sho (sure) can give feedback that encourages better performances from our artists! Tasia fed off the energy from the audience and it was evident! Could you imagine if that was a "typical" less enthused crowd...she still would have been good...but this right here was GREAT! Yes!
DAMN Fannie! I'm sititng here eating french fries with ketchup and seasoning salt and came this video. Now usually nothing interrupts my french fries, but I had to stop eating and rewind this video. Fantasia has me crying like a BABY for no reason at all. Fantasia I will have to bill you for this when I fly out to Atl from Oaklan, Cali. to see you in TCP. SANG BITCH, SSSAAAANNNGGGG ITttttttt!!!!!!!!!
I am sorry sweetie but even if you are ''invested in the performance'' it is not a concert, there is a time and a place for everything, I cried like a crazy woman and even if i knew all the words I enjoyed it in the silence of my seat because the people next to me did not pay to hear me sing and shout and that could also harm their experience. She SANG the hell outta that song (as she always does), and in their situation I would have clapped like crazy too, but the shouting is something else, again there is a place and a time for everything and I still stand behind my initial statement. But you are also entitled to your opinion, you do you sweetie and be happy. =) PS: Still think it was fun to watch.
I not a shouting man, but from 5:16 on...IT WAS ON!!! Time to shout couldnt hold it back, dont know what i was doing but i had it going on! God Damn! The girl is bad!
Talonzo Brooks the chitterlings circuit...wow u were really bothered by this weren’t you? i’m sorry they ruined your experience of this bootleg viewing!
I love this video...i posted the audio....but the video is great. I just wish yall could have kept the camera on her...i know how yall felt though, so i cant blame yall...thanks for posting this!!
I’d rather her be extra than for her voice to go out in her last performance…like in Cynthia’s…whom y’all claim is the superior vocalist/has the better vocal technique
Thank you, thank you, and thank you again. I always come back to this video. Impeccable performance and incredible audience appreciation. One of my favorite videos.
Ladies this clip is SICK!! If I'd have been there I'd be showing my love too, Fantasia had the place in the palm of her hand!!!! Showing love from the UK
WHEN TASIA SAID "IMA GONNA TAKE A DEEP BREATH" THEN THE GIRL SCREAMED "TAKE IT" 😂😂😂😂YESSSSSSSSSSS
It's her closing night, she can be extra... And by the sound of the audience, it didn't seem like anyone had a problem with the way she sung it.
tiburon8604 amen!
I was front row when i saw this on broadway and Fantasia was crying during this scene.... She went into that character with every bit of spirit... Fantasia made Celie her own....

I love my people...we sho (sure) can give feedback that encourages better performances from our artists! Tasia fed off the energy from the audience and it was evident! Could you imagine if that was a "typical" less enthused crowd...she still would have been good...but this right here was GREAT! Yes!
OMG .. what a great singer!
2021 and I'm Still Here. It never gets old.
@kanuri
WELL SAID..all of the folks complaining can go to hell. thank you for posting this,
wow. constant chills.
This brought me to tears have mercy what an oscar winning performance.
amen, the camera person was getting on my last nerve.
Fantasía: I'm gonna take a deep breath...
Random Lady: Take it child!
Me: RIP
this behaviour is sooooo disrespectful but yet soooo entertaining
It's not disrespectful for people that are invested in the performance. Only to the outside world.
PS: Still think it was fun to watch.
N. R.V. the screaming was too much but i understand why they lose their minds. but yeah the screaming is so ratchet
sing tasia.....you been through it and i love you girl. 11.2.07, baby. i'll nvr forget it.
I not a shouting man, but from 5:16 on...IT WAS ON!!! Time to shout couldnt hold it back, dont know what i was doing but i had it going on! God Damn! The girl is bad!
Broadway etiquette is not the same as the chitterling circuit.....lawd ha mercy....lol
True, its ok to get into it but as always, we don't have any decorum. Doing way to damn much...smh.
Talonzo Brooks the chitterlings circuit...wow u were really bothered by this weren’t you? i’m sorry they ruined your experience of this bootleg viewing!
Props to the lady recording, because if I where there, when Fantasia sings the camera would be off. Fantasia sung the hell out that song.
I love this video...i posted the audio....but the video is great. I just wish yall could have kept the camera on her...i know how yall felt though, so i cant blame yall...thanks for posting this!!
"She missed a whole verse" lolol no she didn't. 😂
I’d rather her be extra than for her voice to go out in her last performance…like in Cynthia’s…whom y’all claim is the superior vocalist/has the better vocal technique
they need to stop that cause her voice is no where near better than Fantasia and she was horrible in Aretha
yeeea you right they shouldve just let fantasia do the whole thinnnng :)
Thank you, thank you, and thank you again. I always come back to this video. Impeccable performance and incredible audience appreciation. One of my favorite videos.
omg I compleeeeeetely forgot about this video. thank you for blessing us.
those girls are so funny!!!!!!
THANK YOU!!! I couldn't have said it better!!
"You Betta sang that!"
crying again in 2018
Ladies this clip is SICK!! If I'd have been there I'd be showing my love too, Fantasia had the place in the palm of her hand!!!!
Showing love from the UK
