Cynthia is probably the most technically beautiful singing of this song. But Fantasia? God's heaven, that is some RAW performance. I can't watch Tasia's performance without crying. It hits right in your soul. Omg she's incredible.
@@mdgamble I feel the same way. She's having trouble manipulating her break. She sings the highs well and the lows well. It's just the going between them that could have been better manipulated in a lower key with clearer distinctions on when to use chest and head voice. Still a great performance, but just because she squawls doesn't mean there aren't problems.
Cynthia can saaannggg, BUT that damn Fantasia makes me feel like I'd speak in tongues. I get goosebumps listening to Fantasia...CRAZY how anointed she is

Hard to compare. Cynthia Erivo technically delivers all the bells and whistles. Yet, Fantasia’s performance is what floors me. And it’s about more than just confidence. They both had tons of confidence. But Fantasia sings with the conviction of a Rosa Parks demanding-a-decent-spot-on-the-bus conviction. You feel me? Fantasia sings in protest! I love me some Fantasia, but on this song, Cynthia is my favorite, that Stephen Colbert performance was incredible! Fantasia puts her whole being in the stuff that she sings and I love that. Seeing her sing it on stage in the moment with the audience reactions was captivating!
Yes! Cynthia hits those notes and reaches octaves that are difficult and her performances are equally touching… she makes the hairs on my neck stand at attention when she sings…
I was very fortunate to have seen Fantasia's Celie live on Broadway. She blew me away and I literally cried out a pair of contact lenses! She was amazing!
Tasia was able to capture the true essence of the song. Being a Southerner and the role being that of a southern woman gives her an edge. She sang just how we would have expected to hear the song.
Cynthia was superrr sick in this performance, she had a fever and all, her rendition of this song at the live play is unmatched. These ladies are all on different levels by themselves. ❤❤❤❤
Fantasia's libs were moving, but it was her Heart that actually sanged this song from the depth of her Soul. A truly one of a kind performance. Kudos 👏.
Cynthia is great, a beautiful tone with amazing clarity and control of her voice. Perfect for a Broadway feature. BUT Fantasia made you believe she was an older woman whose taken all the blows life threw at her and is Still Here. Cynthia sounds best on cast recording CD but it’s missing what Fantasia’s has, Heart.
I think i might be the only one in this comment section who thinks cynthia has plenty of emotion in hers- i feel like just because it’s so technically perfect doesn’t mean it’s lacking in emotion
I agree. Fantasia is the only one who gave me chills. Singing pretty does not equal singing soulfully. One example, Diana Ross missing you versus Aretha Franklin say a little prayer for you or natural woman
All of them are incredible vocalist. But for me Fantasia, was able to convey the message of the story through that song. You felt everything this woman had endured throughout her life. She sung this song with conviction, passion, and most of all the anointing. Whoa, I still get chills every time I see her perform that song.
The reason you feel the emotion from Fantasia is because she has experienced the message behind the song. She connects with it. She isn’t trying to simply sing the song, she’s telling the audience this song represents a chapter in her life. Hats off to all the ladies, but fantasia embodied the song.
Cynthia!!! Some people had to drop the notes to perform it… Cynthia is a gift… her version is the one I fell in love with… my daughter sings her version for musical theatre auditions and her repertoire and it is difficult to touch those octaves…
Fantasia makes you cry when she sings this song . Lord that girl pluck every emotion where you resonate with the character. No one can sing it like her hands down. Fan God gave you a heck of a gift.
Fantasia is a old soul, always has been always will be, she always gets an assignment and nails it. Ms Cynthia has crazy control and so technical. They are my favs
Cynthiaaaa's singing for meeee alll day everyday ❤❤❤❤ But i agree Fantasia's rendition is a TESTIMONY. And fantasias acting was A+++++++ that came from the SOUUUUL
There is a difference in being in character singing a song and performing a vocal rendition of the same song. Each songstress did a beautiful job in their own context and circumstances. JHud's performance was orchestrated, Tasia's performance was while in character during the production, the remainder of the ladies were freestyling their own musical interpretations/ renditions. These should not be compared, only appreciated.
Should watch Fantasia's performance of this song at the Tony Awards! I was moved to tears just as she was while singing it! She sings with such conviction. Absolutely beautiful.
Anointed? Gifted and anointed are 2 different things. Anointing brings healing and restoration through the presence of God. Gifting is talent to complete a task well. Gifting is given by God but, anointing invokes God's presence.
I love Jennifer Hudson, but this wasn't her song. Fantasia killed it and made me a believer. Fantasia went for the gold and won it hands down. Fantasia has that we going to make it thur because I'm going to stand with you, and if we fall, we just going to get back up until we make it. Now, I finally see why she won American 🏆 Idol.
Fantasia's rendition of this song brings me to tears EVERY time I hear her sing this. Her conviction and spirit connection to the lyrics allows her to OWN it... Hands down; full stop, period!
Fantasia my goodness. I am in here boo hoo crying. The emotion of this song was on full display. Ladies and gentleman that is the definition of emotive singing. She made me want to start rolling around in the floor sobbing and weeping for what she had to overcome. Great day!
Fantasia's CONVICTION when she sings this song is just on a whole other level. I believe one of the reasons Fantasia was born was to deliver the message of this song to the masses
For sure! Everyone else sings it ok to great but the focus is only on singing it well and doing extra notes-Fantasia is going to naturally sing the mess out of it. Tasia’s gritty voice with range is going to give her even more edge but she becomes the song and not just singing it!
Fantasia hands down for me. She sang it just as the character would have felt it & sang it. She helped you feel exactly what the song writer wanted you to feel during the play/song. 💜💜💜💜
in context of the play, Fantasia sang it the best. You can feel her emotions. Cynthia hits those notes with ease and clarity. Others sang song with beautiful strong voices - this cannot be an easy song to sing!
The answer is Fantasia. It’s always going to be Fantasia. Although I do like Cynthia’s version as well. But yea, when Fantasia sings it, it’s like she reached in and grabbed my soul.
This belongs to Fantasia all day and night. I saw her back in 2007 at Kennedy Center in Wash DC. It was just amazing. Everyone else steps back it's all her's. Saw Lachanze in the NY original version and she is my second choice. The others to me are just singing a song. Fantasia embodies the character and feel of the hardness of Celie's life.
Nobody can sing this song like Fantasia Barrino! I heard her sing this live in Atlanta and my heart stopped for a minute from the notes she was hitting to the power & passion with which she sang them! I know there has to be a clip that reflects that available somewhere on Al Gore's Internet!
Fantasia makes you feel this song from deepest pits of your soul...I feel her pain& I believe it, it’s not acting. Cynthia is technical and clean, might be too clean that it lacks soul and the grittiness of the context of the song. Hudson always kills this on high notes, not sure how she does that...so it’s Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson & Cynthia in that order for me. Fantasia is simply sublime on this song, literally she kills it
Cynthia is awesome and so Is Jennifer… I love them all, but Fantasia, touched me like the women I am now and the woman I was and to look back and see my strive now, is priceless for me “I AM HERE”.
I saw LaChanze, Fantasia and Cynthia on Broadway. LaChanze and Cynthia are fantastic singers and they are stronger actresses than Fantasia. They sang "I'm Here" wonderfully. But Fantasia pulled that song from her gut and LIVED it. There is no question that she had the most affecting performance of "I'm Here." When she finished, the half of the audience that wasn't doubled-over in tears were on their feet hollering.
It’s true. I saw Fantasia. It was my first ever Bway show. Everyone was crying and shouting. It was so emotionally resonate. Loved seeing so many black folk of all ages. I wish I could have seen Cynthia.
Fantasia for me! Hands down. She embodied each lyric to it's fullest and made you feel the story. There is no questions that Cynthia Erivo delivered an amazing flawless "technical" rendition. Performing is more than just hitting every note and intonation, it's about emoting and bringing the lyric and story to life. Fantasia did just that! All are talented and my point is proven with LaChanze winning the Tony for her performance. They all bring something special.
if you go look for cynthia’s version when she was actually on stage for the show, you can see how she really delivers emotionally as well! love both these ladies so much
Jennifer Hudson was excellent. However, I have to go with Fantasia on this as she was in character. I could feel the power of her words as she sang. I feel there’s nothing more moving than an artist singing while in character. That’s what makes musicals so great. It was Ms Ceily’s breakthrough moment in the play. I saw a clip of Fantasia singing this same song at some event , while she was really good it didn’t have the same affect on me. All of the singers were good.
Fantasia pulled that song straight from the debts of her soul!!! When u go to that place to sing a song, that beats clean singing, every note perfect singing, and any other kind of sing that u bring!!! This one here goes to Fantasia!!! ✅💓💖💝
Everybody sounds good.. hitting notes & such.. but FANNY MAE BABBYYYY TAKES THE CAKE!!!!!!! It's something about her voice that hits yiu differently ❤❤❤❤
Fantasia, hands down!!!! I'm crying and I have chills!!!!! ❤❤❤❤😢😢🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹 and Cynthia Erivo, came in second to me. She sang it up tempo. All the ladies, sang beautifully! Thank you ladies. 👏👏👏👏❤❤❤❤❤🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
The definitive rendition of this song is Fantasia’s performance for the Tony Awards. It was mind blowing, chilling, left the audience stunned and in awe. It was a bottom of the soul performance.
I didn't like the Tony performance compared to hearing her sing in character. It was too over the top for me and her wearing that beautiful dress just didn't make it as authentic for me. It's like "I'm still here" but I'm wearing a dress that costs more money than Celie would have ever saw in her lifetime. It didn't hit me the same way. Can Fantasia sing? Absolutely! I just wasn't as big a fan of the arrangement at the Tony's
I wish they would have used a live performance from Cynthia. She puts so much raw emotion into the song. And the way she sing the final "I'm here"... AMAZING!!! Definitely number one for me!!
JHud and Fantasia. Both unleashed their Black church backgrounds through their performances. Both gave me goosebumps. Morisette Amon was very soulful. The others great too. Erivo was "clean". LaChanze was easy breezy. Jackson brought out the Black church too but was a little choppy in parts.
All these ladies are talented as hell, but Fantasia kills this song. She makes you feel it, and her soul cries, which gives you goosebumps.
I have to agree with you. ❤
When Cynthia sings it, its a perfectly-executed showstopper. When Fantasia sings it, it's a testimony communicated through song.

Great day!
🎯
Yess, she definitely has a gift of expression through music.
Exactly ! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
in context of the play, Fantasia sang it the best.
Fantasia gave me goosebumps! The emotion and sheer realness was amazing. She’s on a different level.
Cynthia easily knocks it out the park for me but Fantasia is amazing too.
Fantasia is simply sublime on this song, literally she kills it
I agree 100%!
You feel Cellie's pain and victory
Jennifer Hudson was a little bit aggressive and put the song
I’m sorry but I hated hudson’s rendition
Cynthia is not that clean. She adds lots of growl and grits in parts of the song.
FANTASIA all day, everyday!!! You can hear all of Celie’s pain and healing from this song. It is coming from her soul.
Cynthia is awesome and so Is Jennifer… I love them all, but Fantasia, touched me like the women I am now and the woman I was and to look back and see my strive now, is priceless for me “I AM HERE”.
I know that is right. I am beautiful and I am here!
I believe Fantasia is just as strong an actress...
That’s not fair to imply that Cynthia only was good on a technical level. She delivered the emotional goods too.
if you go look for cynthia’s version when she was actually on stage for the show, you can see how she really delivers emotionally as well! love both these ladies so much
Cynthia Erivo also won a Tony for her role as Celie in the 2015 revival.
Cynthia... and she was sick that day
Exactly!!! I love her version
And she had ran a marathon that morning! (Which she said she was also sick running through). She is other worldly.
They all did great! But fantasia carried that anointing so powerful!☝🏽👍🏽
Fantasia, Cynthia and Jennifer Hudson
I Agree
So Fantasia sings by nose
@@flaviocosta9829 that’s really just how her voice sounds
Jennifer Hudson was excellent. However, I have to go with Fantasia on this as she was in character. I could feel the power of her words as she sang. I feel there’s nothing more moving than an artist singing while in character. That’s what makes musicals so great. It was Ms Ceily’s breakthrough moment in the play. I saw a clip of Fantasia singing this same song at some event , while she was really good it didn’t have the same affect on me. All of the singers were good.

True, Fantasia is simply annointed and her singing touches the soul not just the mind
Lots of love from South Africa
Cynthia brings a crispness to the song that makes you say wow. Fantasia makes you feel the pain behind the song.
RIGHT ,PEOPLE FORGET IT PLAY AND THE AUDIENCE MUST FEEL IT LIVE..
Fantasia makes me cry everytime I hear her sing I’m Here! It’s her song! She sings with an anointing! 🎶
Fantasia by 1000 miles. Cynthia did a great job as well, but Fantasia took it into the clouds!
Fantasia hands down. You believe it and feel it deeply. 💯
Fantasia, hands down!!!! I'm crying and I have chills!!!!! ❤❤❤❤😢😢🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹 and Cynthia Erivo, came in second to me. She sang it up tempo. All the ladies, sang beautifully! Thank you ladies. 👏👏👏👏❤❤❤❤❤🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Love Fantasia 💖💖💖!! What a beautiful performance by her!!! Loved every minute of it 💖💖💖💖💖
The definitive rendition of this song is Fantasia’s performance for the Tony Awards. It was mind blowing, chilling, left the audience stunned and in awe. It was a bottom of the soul performance.
Absolutely stunning performance, the best version. Excited to her see her redemption in the musical movie
That performance gets me crying every single time i watch it
I wish they would have used a live performance from Cynthia. She puts so much raw emotion into the song. And the way she sing the final "I'm here"... AMAZING!!! Definitely number one for me!!
All these beautiful black queens...so talented and so amazing in their craft, all deserve praise.
Fantasia makes my Heart damn near burst! I love her rendition.❤️
Without a doubt, FANTASIA!!! You feel it in your bones with FANTASIA!!!! ♡LndSu
Bre Jackson did it for me. I never heard of her before but I felt her passion. All of them can sing.
Cynthia, always!! She was even sick during that performance. On stage she is absolute perfection. Fantasia is also so so so special ♥️
